Wrath of Heroes Shutting Down!

What Mythic Entertainment plans to do going forward and how this effects you.

It's a sad day for Warhammer fans, particularly those who have been playing Wrath of Heroes. Come March 29th, Mythic Entertainment will be shutting down the game for good.

For those who may be unfamiliar with Wrath of Heroes. It's essentially a team-based Arena style game, that utilizes three teams of six composed of various champions, each with their own skill set and unique abilities. While Wrath of Heroes may not have been everyone's cup of tea, it did have a pretty loyal fan base who enjoyed playing this free to play title. James Casey, the Producer of Wrath of Heroes ,shared some of his thoughts about the game shutting down.

"As a producer for this game from the start, I am proud of the hard work and effort that made the game possible and I feel sad that it is not able to carry on.  I think we created something special and I would not trade the time creating it or playing it (on all those Friday Fight Fests and anonymously almost every day) for anything."

It's always sad when any producer or developer has to let go of a project they poured so much time into and clearly Casey was passionate about the game. Casey goes on to give some final words in regards to the shutdown.

"Whether you just tried it out or have played it from the start of Beta, we thank you all for your patronage.  I hope you will all join us and celebrate the final moments of WOH.  See you online!"

Final farewells are always tough, but I'm sure many players are wondering what this means for them?

Well in regard to gems, which are used for the in game cash shop and other real money transactions, you are still able spend any remaining gems that you may have and enjoy items that are on sale at a discounted gem price. You are unable to purchase any additional gems however, and unfortunately no refunds will be given for prior gem purchases.

Aside from just wanting to know their own personal standings in regards to the Wrath of Heroes shutdown, the question always comes up amongst the fan base, that is "Why is the game shutting down?" Mythic Entertainment gave a pretty simple response:

"Mythic as a studio is undergoing a paradigm shift as we shift our focus to mobile.  As part of this pivot, we had to make a few changes and reallocate resources to support this new direction.  As such, we took a long look at Wrath of Heroes and despite its strong IP, gameplay, and community support; we decided not to continue the service past its Beta and instead concentrate those resources on our new endeavors."

Unfortunately for Wrath of Heroes fans, they drew the short end of the stick on this one. However, with the innovation we see in today's mobile games, do you think we could eventually see a Wrath of Heroes remake for mobile platforms? Only time will tell it seems.

In the meantime don't forget to spend all of those gems before March 29th. If you want to know more information about the Wrath of Heroes Shutdown head over to this page.
