Mythic Studio's MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has gone free-to-play as its inevitable shutdown looms on the horizon. This offer is extended to players who had accounts in good standing as of October 31, 2013. Mythic also has plans to place NPCs in the world in order to get returning players "powered up" so that they can experience all the activities that are planned as a celebration of the game's lifespan.

Warhammer Online to Shut Down on December 18

Early this afternoon Mythic Entertainment announced that it would be closing the doors of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in a mere three months.

We here at Mythic have built an amazing relationship working with Games Workshop creating and running Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning over the last 8 years. Unfortunately, as with all licensing deals they do eventually  come to end and on December 18th, 2013 we will no longer be operating Warhammer Online. As such we will no longer be selling 3 month game time codes or have the ability to auto renew your accounts for 3 months as of September 18th, 2013. If you would like to read some additional thoughts from one of WAR’s Producer please check out http://www.warhammeronline.com/.  From all of us here at Mythic we thank you again for your dedication and support over the last five years.

If you have any questions please feel free contact us via email at support@warhammeronline.com.

A more detailed notice of shutdown is also available to read on the Warhammer site.

ZAM tooltips should now load more quickly, attach to the mouse more smoothly, attach to icons where appropriate, and should reposition themselves when near the edge of the screen. There are also new options for users adding our tooltips to their site, including the ability to add coloring or icons to links, or even rename their links.

Find out how you can add / modify these tooltips on your site by heading over to our tooltips wiki page! You can also see what changes we made on our tooltip feedback forum topic.

Warhammer Online 'Retires' Two More Servers

In spite of Warhammer Online's scrappy nature, this MMO is slowly being whittled down by time and competition, as Mythic just "retired" two more Warhammer Online servers: Gorfang and Karak-Azgal. Both servers will be brought completely offline as of today, and players will need to transfer any of their remaining characters via the Mythic Account Center.

Good luck in your new homes, evicted Warhammer-ers!

Warhammer Online Celebrates Third Anniversary

Happy third anniversary, Warhammer Online! Mythic is celebrating the milestone by kicking off 10 days of bonus to XP/RP starting today, September 16. You'll also be able to grab a few fireworks from the dead bodies of your foes.

The team is also introducing new rewards for all the 3-year veterans out there. The team is thanking these loyal players by giving them an exclusive Jack O Lantern Vanity Pet (seen above), as well as an endless supply of Chaos Black and Blazing Orange dye to maintain the seasonal theme.

Wrath of Heroes Facebook 'Likes' Mean More Invites

Do you want a better shot at being invited into this weekend's Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes closed beta event? Then you may want to "like" the game's Facebook page by the end of today, September 14 because the team will be sending out a batch of invites equal to the number of fans on Facebook. The page currently has 4,748 "likes," which means that many new players are getting into the beta. If that number increases today, then even more players will receive beta invites.

Of course, the guaranteed way to get into the beta is by being an active subscriber of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. If you're a subscriber, make sure you sign up for the Wrath of Heroes beta with the same EA account you use for WAR.

Wrath of Heroes is a free-to-play arena game features three-team 6v6v6 combat and the ability to swap your heroes on the fly. We're participating in the closed beta, so keep an eye out for our impressions!

Warhammer Online Version 1.4.4 is Live

Warhammer Online version 1.4.4 is now live and brings with it the Wild Hunt Live Event and more. Here are the highlights:

  • The Wild Hunt Live Event introduces Kurnous, the Elven God of the Hunt. Players can test their skills tracking and slaying fierce animals, collecting sacred pelts, and sighting the elusive White Stag.
  • Changes have been made to the Open Realm versus Realm campaign to provide incentive to successfully defend a keep against an enemy offensive.
  • A gaggle of new vanity pets have shown up in the capital cities! These pets are there to show off the new packs available on Origin (aka the EA Store).
  • The lineup of the Scenarios has once again shifted.  A number of old scenarios are making their return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers.

WAR Players Will Get Wrath of Heroes Beta Invites

The Warhammer Online: Wrath of Heroes closed beta kicked off over the weekend with a sneak peek event, and Mythic has announced that it plans to invite every active subscriber of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning to participate in upcoming tests for the PvP arena game. The next test is scheduled for the end of this week.

If you're a Warhammer Online player, make sure you sign up for the Wrath of Heroes beta with the same EA account you use for WAR. Even if you're not a Warhammer Online subscriber, you are still welcome to register for the beta.

Wrath of Heroes was announced at Gamescom last month. The free-to-play arena game features three-team 6v6v6 combat and the ability to swap your heroes on the fly.
