Concerning the Connectivity Issue

We understand some players are still experiencing connectivity issues when they are trying to log into FINAL FANTASY XI or while traveling through various areas in FINAL FANTASY XI.

Again, our team of technicians investigated and confirmed that our FINAL FANTASY XI servers are working properly, and our service is not experiencing any technical difficulties at this time. However we are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the issue and will make every effort to assist in remedying it.

If you are having connectivity issues, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at another time. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience you may be experiencing.

Just some other help, this may work for you, it may not. Make sure that your routers firmware is up to date. I have a linksys that I have experienced problems with before, due to my ISP changing. I had to upgrade the firmware to keep a constant connection. This occured about 5 months ago and I had to do it to my workplace and to my home. At first on Monday Night EST I did it and it did not fix my zoning issue into Southern San d'oria, but after the Tuesday update I have not experienced an issue with zoning into Southern San d'oria. I am sure that the RO may be another zone now, but I highly recommend the firmware upgrade linksys put out a new one for my model on February 9, 2007. GL to all and I am sorry I cannot give you specifics for each model, but I am sure that your router has a website with a FAQ that will assist and Linksys (from experiences) has a wonderful online chat support. Oh and BTW this is quite different than reseting your router .

Since I fixed my D/C problem, it hasn't happen to me since. However there is a slight delay when zoning into certain zones. Like my MH or Jade Speluncher or whatever.

If you think this is bad, remember four years ago when half of the FFXI population couldn't even get into the game after one of their updates that they blamed on "server hackings."

* tried changing the mac address, several times and didnt work

* tried to re-install, re-dowaload the update.. during update,
there was no error so everything went smooth but, didn't work either.

ffxi community:
is there anything else we can try before calling SE? keep those suggestions coming pls..

SE, gives us something better than,
"If you are having connectivity issues, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at another time..."

im throwing sentinel up and curing you for hate, so i'm not giving up ><;

I am still suffering from the "R0" zoning and disconnect problem, but I got a work-around. I can either connect my PC directly to the cable modem or place it behind a router. For reasons way beyond my understanding, switch the network connection causes the "R0" problem happen in different zones. So I would run around until i get stuck, then I would reconfigure my internet connection to get me through the zone and hope the next zone I don't have the same problem again. It's a big hassle, but it's better than been stuck.

Several of my in game friends have given up playing for a few days due to frustration with the disconnect problem. I hope they decide to come back. If SE monitors this site as they claim to do, I'll just say that please stop blaming the players or the players' ISP for this problem and fix this bug in your software. All of the talk about establishing relationships with player community is garbage if the PAYING customers can't even get in the game.

As the fortune cookie say, a fool and his PAYING CUSTOMER soon parted.

Onidori.

Dear SE:

It has been days now and still I keep DC'ing all over the place. I certainly hope you plan on adjusting peoples bills since we have not been able to PLAY since your lovely update. I find it unbelievable that with all the enginners and techs that you have, you are unable to fix this in a timely manner.. no, no... the "Everything is working properly" excuse is NOT cutting it. If things were working properly THOUSANDS of players would not be dc'ing everywhere. I am on the verge of cancelling my account. This has gone on for way to long.

Just so you know It would've eventually happened to your mules. I was playing on one of my mules and it connectvity issues as well about the time I thought I was going to be safe. I then changed to my gardening mule, and she soon froze as well, just about the time I had to give my Trees their crystals......
Hopefully this update fixes the problem, and that my Chocobo doesn't hate me.
no point in stressing

yeah it is crap that we cant play properly and all that, i mean myself i was locked out and getting ffxi-3113 for 3 days straight but we all have to chill a lil and stop all this SE bashing give them a break they are trying their best to fix this problem.

so instead of sitting here ******** about how they arent fixing it why not get on the phone to them or send them an email describing your problems the more info they have about this the faster they can home in on it and fix it....

Meh, after I got March 13th's update, I started getting d/c'ed like 30-2 minutes into game. I found that I could delay the d/c by changing a piece of gear that would cause my character to change. It however stopped working after the 3rd time when I got to the zone. Upon logging back in, I found myself about 30 steps or so away from the zone, but it booted me as soon as I got back in.

At the time I was in Qufim Island where I had been skilling up H2H. (Darn Salvage.) and had no problems there last night. So after the update, I tried hard-booting both my router and modem to my dismay. Which did not work. Just when I was about to throw my tv out the window, I felt the urge to go to the bathroom, so I unplugged my router and left for about 15-20 minutes.

Upon returning, I plugged it back in, let it fully boot up, and attempted to login. No red ball, no R0. I ran the rest of the way to the zone with no more connection problem.

My only suggestion is, to go into your router/modems web interface and browse through the tabs and options. If at one point a page fails, or lags, than try unplugging it for 15-20 minutes.

(Sadly I now have to redo all my port-forwarding since I didn't make a backup for them. /cry)

I have talked to some of my friends who are having this same issue and i got on one of their characters on my pc and bam no problems. I have found one thing that every single one of my friends have incommon who have this issue....They all had an error while updating and had to redl the update.

This could be the major cause right there as in the error could have corrupted any number of files in your ffxi folders depending on how far along you were in updating. The reason this could happen is that if the file was partially downloaded and the update was resumed the version check could have recognized the corrupt file as a complete file and continued on thereby creating a problem when the update was installed.

This would account for why the areas differ for everyone and why its only certian areas (in the case of people not being able to connect at all it could be a login file that errored out). This would also account for why I could log on my friends account for him and move his character out of low jeuno (where he had issues) to port so he could play.

The mac address change, well at this time i don't see any reason why that would affect your game i will do more research on this issue.

Further I instructed 2 of my other friends who were a bit leary about passing out their pol info to just reinstall and update again, which they did without erroring out, and now they have 0 problems aswell.

As for the errors they probably came about due to the large ammount of people trying to log into ffxi and update at the same time. This could in theory cause a server overload as they are sending out more information then normal (because alot of game data is handled on the users side) whereas this would all be on their servers.

My recommendation for a fix for this issue would be to reinstall ffxi and if you have an issue with, omg nooo my macros, like i do just go to your Play online>>Square Enix>>Final Fantasy>>USER folder and just copy that folder itself and past to desktop and after reinstlal put back in that spot and bam macros back.

I wish you all good luck and I hope i have been able to help out.

Okay, I guess that works for PC users, but what about console players? I already had to redo my macro list when I got the Xbox version and realized that SEI didn't store them (the HD that I originally played on burned out). I have screenshots, etc that I'd like to keep. Is ther a way to save/store any of that? I doubt it b/c Microsoft sucks like that.

Back to the topic, though, your theory about corrupted update info seems plausible. My Xbox auto-shutdown in the middle of it, and I had to redo it the next day. All day. But I'm having problems with my entire network now. Even though the router stays on, Xbox Live and POL keep logging out suddenly, and my Local Area Conenction (XP) d/c's and reconnects randomly (maybe b/c it does), and so no one in the house can really use the Internet. I have reset my router settings and started over with settings, but the whole thing is just SNAFU'd. Any ideas?

What I've Witnessed...

Here's a list of what I've witnessed personally with regard to this issue. Because we can only guess at the cause without intimate knowledge of what's actually happening between our PC's and SE's servers, I will only state my observations and make some educated hypotheses.

1) There seem to be two problems (that I know of)...

a) R0 in certain set of zones (the set of zones appears to be different for different people). After a timeout there is a FFXI-4001 Error.

b) Protocol timeout error FFXI-3113 when connecting to the lobby server. This is where your FFXI login stops at "acquiring player data."

2) Changing my IP address and/or MAC address would either change the areas that I could or could not connect to as in problem 1a) or cause me to have problem 1b). I say IP and/or MAC address because I changed my MAC address in order to force a new IP address from my ISP. However, I have not been able to eliminate these errors. [Note: other posts indicate some people have "fixed" the problem by changing their IP, others have seen no difference in the problem at all]

3) These problems only occurred after the update. I have encountered both issues depending my IP address/MAC address.

Some Hypotheses - The following is educated guess-work...

1) The problem does not appear to be client related. This means the problem would be somewhere within the ISP, internet backbone, or SE server domain.

2) While the March update is cleary the catalyst for these errors, it does not necessary make SE servers to be at fault. It is possible that some of the ISPs did not successfully assimulate changes that SE made to their network.
