Quests for Blue Mages, Corsairs, and Puppetmasters!(07/06/2006)

The version update was scheduled to take place in mid-July, but has been postponed until late July. (Exo says, "GRRRR!")

The artifact and limit break quests for the blue mage, corsair, and puppetmaster jobs will be added in the next version update. You must have attained a certain level with each job to access its new quests.

New Artifacts

The artifact quests are continuations of the previously available "An Empty Vessel," "Luck of the Draw," and "No Strings Attached" quests. Like the artifact quests for other jobs, there will be three quests for each new job that the player must complete in order to attain the artifact weapon and two pieces of armor.

The other three pieces of artifact armor will not be available in coffers, but instead can be obtained by a new method. The Aht Urhgan areas are for high-level players, and placing coffers in these areas would make the artifact quests significantly more difficult than those for the other jobs.

Limit Break Quests

The NPC Maat, famous or even infamous for his part in previous limit break quests, will not be appearing in the new quests due to his lack of expertise in the jobs of the Near East. Instead, the player will have to battle against important figures for each job in order to breach their innate limits.

You must complete the three artifact quests for each job before attempting its limit break quest.

Um... WTF!? Last time I checked Lv.75s could and regularly were aggroed in places like Eldime Necropolis, Temple of Ugg, and so forth if they don't take the right precautions. But I guess those areas are "low level areas" that even the most foolhardy of noobs could get through. The new places aren't that much worse... You use the proper espionage spell/item and off you go to get lost and have it wear off in the middle of a pack of mobs. That's the way AF works. Therefore, my conclusion is "That's a bull$hit excuse for wanting to do AF differently for the new jobs"

Also the Maat fights...not being Maat fights? That's stupid too.

"The NPC Maat, famous or even infamous for his part in previous limit break quests, will not be appearing in the new quests due to his lack of expertise in the jobs of the Near East. Technically Maat wouldn't have been an expert on the FAR Eastern Jobs either...But Zilart came out and poof, so he was. BLU, COR, and PUP should have to deal with the same exact BS, that RDMs have to in a Maat fight... If not why not have one of the many people that are part of the "flag quest" be the opponent. Makes more sense than a senile old man who fights in turquoise pajamas. The point I'm making here is
"All or nothing" If you have Maat keep it going with Maat. Don't make some half assed excuse why he can't be an expert on the new jobs. If he can become a NIN and SAM master over night why not a BLU, COR, and PUP? F that.

We havn't been to the FAR east yet. Aht Urghan is the Western capital of the empire. There is one farther east than that. The main continents we started on are the Western world.

Also I think this is perhaps so Maat's cap can still be earned and kept by the people who got it. Not like those people "got it early" so it was easier. Maat's cap can be earned by beating him with the 6 regular jobs and the other 9 original advanced jobs.

After that, they need someone else.

Of course we have. The Rise of the Zilart areas (Khazam, Norg, and the Rest of Elshimo) are considered the centers of "Far Eastern" culture in FFXI, a fact which is mentioned in many places throughout the game, and is evidenced by the introduction of "Far Eastern" jobs such as the Ninja and Samurai (DRG was introduced in ROZ also), "Far Eastern" foods such as sushi, and various other aspects of "Far Eastern" Culture.

It makes sense that they would divide the limit break quests for the new jobs up like this. Otherwise you would have to additionally fight Maat with BLU, COR, and PUP to get Maat's Cap.

I do believe that in order to get Maats Cap you simply have to beat Maat with 7 different jobs. You can tell its a pattern with the hat, it is +7 to all stats as well.

yeah, but if someone's first job to 75 was one of those 3, they'd need to do af first. I'vee seen plenty of xbox 360 newbs that applies to.

And having the 3 new jobs need to have af done in order to dop it seems a little *****. Might they be intending to extend that to the old jobs? Or removing it from the new jobs later, after all the currently 70-75 blu cor and pup who blew on up there finish the quests?

So for the new jobs, you have to complete your AF before you can do the limit break quest? Does that apply to the old jobs? I never knew someone who got a job to 70 without their AF, but do you need to do their af quests to fight maat? Might they change the quest for the old jobs?

by limit breaks it means the 5 Genkai quests, you only need to do these once, and most that lvl BLU, COR or PUP, already have a lvl75 job, so they already would have completed these quests.

I espect what'll happen for the other 3 AF pieces is that they'll come from Assault. My guess is that a ??? Item will have a much higher chance of being the AF is a person in the party is that job of the appropriate level.

Who knows until they add it though. ^^;

What it could be is a special Assualt. Lets say, you talk to te Cor guy, and he gives you a special tag.

They did it in the SMN quests, where in they gave you a special pendulum to trade to teh cloister to start a special fight.

That sounds far too random. With the coffers it would be random where it popped but if you found it you got what you were expecting to get.

I do agree it could have to do with assault because, going by what they said, it can't be high level only. I just think that if you have the appropriate quests active you'd get it. If it is Assault I'd think it will be in the chest at the end.

If you look at the Atlas page for FFXi, you notice that there is something like "South-west Apployn" or something. So it stands to reason that the Af2 for these three jobs will be opened when they release the new Limbus ( for af1+1) and Dynams( for af2 and af2+1)
hmm

im wondering if the new AF sets will have comparative lvl requirements for usage... ie: ~40 for weapon, 52/54/56/58/60 for armor.. wouldn't it be just like SE to make the new AF higher lvl to justify not having to come up with new relic equips for the new jobs? >_<

While thinking about how the genkai system works I believe that this may or may not put people who are leveling the new jobs at a disadvantage. Reason why I say this is that enless there are comparative quest that you might have to do that have the same level of difficulty / same quest types that people may just say thanks for the offer but I am going to have to pass. or if it is too weak then players will be happy and everyone will just level those jobs to 75. I know for some jobs maat for limit break 70 is a pain.

Just my thoughts. AS with AF I am very happy but at the same time I am worried since puppet AF looks um. kinda gay on elvaan and what not.

i'm not quite sure on this, but i think that there is only 3 af quests, the weapon, the gloves, and something else, but i'm thinking that the other 2 pieces of AF armor arnt being considered "quests" instead, i think that Allakhazam is refering to the last few(3) pieces as "coffers" instead for "quests".

well as a thf I have a quest for weapon, quest for hands (like everyone else) quest for head, and quest for feet. So thats 4 quests. Only coffer pieces are body and legs

All jobs only have 3 actual quests for AF. Everyones first is for their weapon, the second is for your gloves (the only one that everybody does the same fight to complete) and the last is for your final 60lvl piece. The 3 remaining armor pieces are gained from coffers for the older 15 jobs. There are no quests associated to them, you just need to have done your AF1 quest (weapon) to actually gain the AF from coffers when you open them. The 3 new jobs aren't going to be any different, you just won't do key/coffer hunts for the other 3 pieces. I'm kinda excited to see how they plan to give you the other armor without coffers. And by not making you do the same ol' thing as the other 15 jobs to get AF they'll be able to build more story around the 3 new jobs.
AF
# Jul 06 2006 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent
Then would PLD have 4 af quests? PLD AF1 is weapon, AF2 is feet, and AF3 is Body. The AF2 for each job differs, but the af1 and af3 are easily predictable as the Weapon and lvl 60 equip.

Bzzt! All of you are wrong:

There's the level 40 quest, which gives you the weapon.

There's one level 50 quest, which gives you a non-hands piece of AF.

And there's one level 60 quest, which gives you the (arguably) most powerful piece of your AF1 set. These 3 are the only ones that are part of your job's AF storyline.

In addition to these, you find 2 pieces in dungeon coffers, and there is the "Boghertz Hands" series of quests that nets you the AF hands, but is not part of the AF1 storyline. Since there are no coffers in Aht Urghan areas, the two pieces that would normally be obtained from coffers would either be obtained via Assault missions or in jail cells in one of the 3 beastman strongholds. And nobody knows up to this point whether or not Boghertz ever travelled the world making artifact hands for other job types, so there could be an additional Assault/jail cell where you can find some old gauntlets in.

There 1 level 40..

Theres 1 level 50..

Theres 1 that requires you to have finished the previus quest :D

There is no 'Level 60 requierment" for AF3

Last time I did that piece for a job was a year ago, so you can forgive me if I messed up a small detail.

So does this mean I have to lvl one of hte new jobs and do the quest to get to 75 with another job? Or does this mean I have to lvl to 75 with a new job and do the quest just to get the new job to 75?

To get to 75 with any job you need to
- Have a "Classic" Job at 70 and beat mat
or
- Have a New job at 70 and beat the new Job-specific NPC

If you beat Maat as a 70 BLM, you do not need to go and beat someone else to get level 75 COR

Whilst that remains true now, i think that will change with this update. They will likely remove the option of beating Maat with another Job to advance BLU/COR/PUP past level 70. I believe it was only there as a temporary solution to not having a Maat fight for the new jobs.
A bit confused.

It wont change, say you beat maat as BLM70, you can level BRD to 75 without having to beat it, why would they change that for the new jobs?

ok now I'm confused cause I know for a fact that BRD DOES have to fight maat to get 75. At least, I quite certain they do. Well I do know there is at least an option of fighting him since you have to beat him with all the jobs (except the 3 new ones of course) to get Maat's Cap.

Beat Maat once, never have to fight him again. If you beat him as a BLM your limit barrier is broken, you are able to achieve 75 on any job. However, you must beat him with all jobs he specializes in to attain a maat's cap.
A bit confused.

They said if you "beat with 70blm first" only have to beat maat with 1 job to get 75 with all jobs.

the limit break is used for players to break lvl 70 cap for the first time. people who have already fought maat as some other job and beat him can take every job to 75, but for some of the newer (possibly) players like the XB360 generation they may not have beaten maat with any job yet and they might have decided to only lvl the 3 new jobs to 75 will have to beat this new limit break quest with one of them to attain 75.
Awesome.
