RMT Countermeasures

From Square-Enix: Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue. Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner. Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels. Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th. As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience. We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.

Apparently they missed a few

Our server has a few well known ones. Commonly called the Superstars. They can be found usually in SSG or Kuftal tunnel 90% of the time.

I did a search this morning and there they were in their favorate spots. Looks like SE missed a few.

This is such great news. The RMT people really get my goat. In the chaos following the Christmas price explosions, I've found myself getting very disallusioned with FFXI. I'm on Caitsith, and from what I understand, we're a pretty notorious server as far as gil selling operations are concerned.

I mean, it's great when you realize that the earring you bought for 500k is now worth 5 million, but not so great when you realize that every else you had your eye on at the AH has risen just as meteorically in price.

I'm glad to see that SE still cares about these matters enough to terminate 700 accounts, which represents a sizeable chunk of income every month. Granted, it's nothing compared to what they make overall, but still! They want us to enjoy the game they've made for us, and they feel it's their duty to not let things get of control too much. This is one in a series of steps they've taken over the years to make the game more enjoyable for the many at the expense of the few who would profit off their creation. I feel assured that they will continue to do so.

Sheesh guys, give SE a break... They haven't banned a few GS here and there, they've banned -700- accounts on all servers and:

That being said, if they find proof of suspected people buying gil... HIT EM WITH A BAN STICK! ::Twitch::

They've done something most of the forums wanted them to do. Stop *********

SE I take my hat off to you for actually doing something right m(_ _)m

The people that actually spent REAL money on imaginary pixellated money should also be banned, It a 2-way street. That is the equivalent of banning a company that provides steroids to athletes at the olympics, but letting the athletes who used them off with nothing.

Anyway, Kudos to SE for finally taking action against RMT. I just wish they would have banned or publicly released the names of buyers since they are as big a part of the problem as the sellers.

:O They discovered a group of gil sellers? Who would have thought? How did SE think to look for gil sellers, while the rest of the player base was completely unaware? /sarcasm
