RMT Countermeasures

From Square-Enix: Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue. Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner. Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels. Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th. As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience. We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.

This is not going to help anything at all.

This is the second time they have done this in the three years i have been playing...and its proven not to help in the long run.

I believe SE has a big hand in it with the gil sellers... and why not, look at the money to be made!

also i have never seen any of the notorious gillseller names that seem to pop up start out from scratch at low level and work up.... they just seem to pop on somehow.... kinda odd.

if you want to know prices down, make drop rates higher and synthesis easier...more supply = less inflation. the same number of people still want the rare items, so dont expect too much to change, normal people just are not as greedy as companies that are only out to make a buck.

SE clearly knows what they are doing here...called stringing it along as best they can by making it look like they are trying to resolve a problem.

Bravo, Square-Enix. Although I am surprised that this gil selling crisis wasn't identified sooner, considering the entire FFXI community knew about it. Nevertheless, keep it up.

And before all you farmers complain that your stuff isn't selling for as much - stuff is also cheaper, thus meaning you don't need as much anyway.

Many people argue that it may not matter, because most people make their money by selling stuff, so if stuff is cheaper to buy, it is also cheaper to sell, so they make less, thus changing nothing. But there is a more appealing argument.

Selling loot isn't the only way to get money in the game. There are numerous quests that give money, and enemies also drop money. When you can spend 30 minutes to farm enough to make 20k, who is going to bother doing the in-game repeatable quests that offer rewards of 500 gil? Nobody. Who is going to kill high level monsters and hunt chests to get money rewards? Nobody. By high inflation, you have imbalance, because quests and gil drops off creatures such as goblins do NOT rise with inflation. The more inflation there is, the more devalued doing quests and killing mobs for money becomes.

So if you are an advocate saying that inflation doesn't matter because your stuff sells for less too, just consider the other factors in the game.

My question to SE:

Is that 600 Billion on each server, or 600 billion divided over all the servers?

I would like to thank S.E. for f***** up any chance for me to make alot of gil now. I was making my gil growing Elemental Ore. With them ******** with the prices of stuff my ores wont bring me in as much as they used to.

And you people are fools to think that this will accomplish anything. People they are booting are the RMT who don't pay S.E. their cut of the Gil they sell. S.E. is the ones selling gil.

Maybe if your grammar was better, I'd understand what you were talking about. I don't mean to be offensive, but I really cannot make heads or tails of that. Please divide it up, if you would. Thank you. ^^

Like most everyone, I'm glad to see that SE has taken steps in the right direction. Some prices on Asura have begun to moderate, but I'm still waiting to see the price on crystals drop to normal levels. I also see some of Asura's most notorious gilsellers are still present, but with luck SE will take care of them in due time.

Like many others, I'm glad to see that POL/SE is taking steps in the right direction. Prices on Asura have already begun dropping to more reasonable levels. I keep waiting to see the price of crystals start dropping, but that hasn't happened quite yet. I'm always on the selling end of the crystals, and even though I list them at old prices, I'm still seeing them come in at the current outrageous rates.

I have noticed the continued presence of some of Asura's most notorious gilsellers, but with any luck SE will take care of them in due time.

First of all, congrats SE for actually doing something about this problem. Should help with the game economy.

But seriously, it's just too bad that they took so damn long to do something about it. Many people I know have stopped playing FFXI because SE couldn't fix the problem. Oh well their loss. They finally did something about it but it was long long long overdue.

He had all of his mules on gardening duty. He was trying to raise enough gil to support his friend, and also buy a Kraken Club. And wouldn't you know it? SE burns all of the gil out of his mules.

But at the same time, I do welcome these changes. I hope Sole Sushi follows suit...

Anyone noted the absence (or lack thereof) of any notorious RMT on their server since this announcement? I know on sylph the most infamous of the RMT; the KXT series of characters (8 in all I believe) are conspicuously..... still there. However there may be less known RMT that have been banned but, cmon guys- if you didnt get the RMT everyone knows about and who admit they are RMT, who are you getting?

PS This is all speculation on my part, maybe the KXT arent rmt theyre just pretending, or perhaps theyre secret SE commandos watching over us or pawns in a government conspiracy, I have noted dramatic price decreases since this housecleaning operation and thats a great thing, keep up the good work.

Thank You SE for helping to rid our world of FFXI of those rotten Gil Sellers. In the year I have been playing this is the first time I haven't heard shouting in Jeuno for people to come gamble gil for rolling die. I hope this is only the begining and the progress will continue. As others have posted if all of us would trade gil to NPC's this would help remove gil and thus help better the economy. Great Job! SE, now keep it up.

I would like to see some players who encourage RMT by purchasing gil punished for playing unfairly.

I dont think banning players who 'obtain' gil is the answer but bankrupting them would be fair.

As an honest player who makes he way with gil earned through adventuring and questing for items it makes me sick to see some of the prices at the AH and in players Bazaar's. There is no possible honest way that players of a certain level should be walking around with 1million gil. Even at the lvl 24/12 I am I rarely have more than 3,000 gil spare...
RE: Lots of people in trouble:
# Feb 12 2006 at 11:56 PM Rating: Decent
My highest level is 36 and I rarely have *less* than 300-400k gil. The most I've had at any one time is 800k, though I like to spend it as I get it. If I had saved all of the gil from about two weeks of farming Pashhow Marshlands, I would probably have about 2-3 million gil at the moment.

Also, don't forget that skill levels in crafting do not depend on one's character levels. Theoretically speaking, you could have a level one character with 100 goldsmithing skill and millions upon millions of gil. The only limitations one has in making gil are those that are self-imposed.

Edit: That's not to say it isn't easier to make gil as you get higher in level, but the cost of (good) equipment rises in level as you do, too.

Yes, every drop of my gil I obtained through blood and sweat. People who cheat the system and get what they want are just absurd. I guess people are just too lazy to do it on their own. I can understand their dilemma, but we all have to deal with it. How about doing it honestly.

ok, without trying to fight about it I'm going to say you don't know much because many people I know including myself at lvl 60+ have well over one or two million gil which has been earned honestly by repeating BCNMs, choco-digging etc. When economy prices are inflated and you do these things you can make big profit. So please don't be trying to point fingers at people like us just because we managed to make money the honest way.... Thankyou ^^

I think SE is doing a pretty damn good job. They need proof these people are actually gil-selling. I mean, seriously, could you imagine the trouble if they banned suspected accounts?
Bottom line is this is helping, and the proof can be seen in the AH. Now they need to keep it up and, maybe, put some new ways to get gil out of the system to lower inflation.

Geez, calm down Mr. Eight Posts. A more polite way to state this without being a total jackass would be:

Dear sir, you can quest most of the items you need at the beginning of the game without having to pay the insane amount at the AH.

Or, just get a HL to help you. There ARE nice ones, contrary to popular belief.

[In a minor update before chocobo raising was introduced, gausebit wildgrass became stackable. Now that chocobo raising is in effect, it's possible that gausebit grass might be gardenable, but I have no data to prove or disprove it at this point.]

Perhaps you might consider following the advice you're shouting at others. Either you've not yet gotten a chocobo license or you did so long ago enough that you've forgotten, but you cannot buy the items you need for the quest anywhere except the auction house.

You are probably thinking of gysahl greens, the tasty chocobo treats you can buy by the stack in the stables and use to bribe your chocobo to dig things up. Although the item decription lists them as a chocobo's favorite food, they are not used in any of the quests I've found which pertain to feeding chocobos. The greens for the license quest are gausebit wildgrass, a non-stacking item which are used only in the license quest and THF AF2; at least according to Allakhazam itself.

Gausebit wildgrass is dropped by two types of critters; however they are not exactly easy to get if you're at level 20, the typical level in which the chocobo license is sought.

The theoretical easier of the beasties which drop gausebit wildgrass are Wadi hares. Wadi hares appear in the second tier of Dangruf Wadi and are level 11-14. However they link like there's no tomorrow, so chances are that even if you can kill one, the other six will do you in. If the bunnies aren't enough, the area is densely packed with Goblins ranging from level 10-20. By densely packed, I mean that for every bunny there are probably at least three Goblins and, like all Goblins, they aggro first and ask questions later.

The other type which drop gausebit grass are crane flies, level 18-21 insects which appear in Meriphataud Mountains, a level 15-30 zone. As with the bunnies, these suckers link early and often, and they have all of those fun attacks like poisonga and cursed sphere, which they spam as fast as they can. Then there are the Goblins and Yagudo which patrol the area and, big surprise here, aggro.

Of course if you have found an NPC who sells the actual gausebit wildgrass, I would encourage you to report it to Allakhazam so they can update the item listing. Until then, however, try to lay off the shouting and the ridiculing when, in fact, you are the one who is incorrect.
