Patch Notes for October 27, 2005

Today's patch message: ============================================= October 27th, 2005 _____________________ *** Headliners *** *** New Default UI Skin *** - We have updated the default UI skin with new art and icons! This is the same artwork that has been on display on our Escape to Norrath server (www.escapetonorrath.com) and our test server. For those of you that prefer to use the old default UI Skin, you can type /loadskin default_old in your chat window and it will allow you to use the old default UI. *** Events and Seasonal Festivities *** - Zigan Ribshard in the Plane of Knowledge has a few friends he’d like you to meet. Speak with him for more information regarding seasonal festivities. Community Summit Related Items: - There is a new filter option on the guild bank to narrow your search. - Added a "guildbank" argument to /outputfile, allowing a player to dump the guild bank to disk. NOTE: This can only be used in the Guild Hall. - Players should now be able to withdraw items from the Guild Bank deposit area (if they're a Guild Banker). - Added Stun and Strikethrough filters/color selectors. - Players now have an option in the options window to determine whether or not they want other players to see them with their helm. "Show My Helm" - EverQuest now uses the system mouse. While in windowed mode you can freely move the mouse around as you can with any other application running in a window. Mouse pointer customization can be done on a UISkin level. Just make your own .cur files with the appropriate names. (Please see the default directory for the .cur names.) - There's a new command to launch a web browser from the chat window. Just type /www and check it out. Also for additional flexibility, /url is available. - There's a new command to launch an application. Check out /system for usage. New arena zone headed to Stormhammer! - Please be aware that if you login to Stormhammer and download the new arena.eqg, that file will need to be deleted if you want to login to a server other than Stormhammer. This file is located in your EverQuest root directory. - Raid invites can now be done across zones via "/raidinvite name" - Bandaging other players will appear to give a healing effect again. *** Audio Triggers *** Audio triggers are sound effects that are played when certain patterns appear in the chat window. You can make audio triggers to play any sound you want when something you want to be sure not to miss appears in the chat window. This might be /tells from specific friends, certain buffs fading, or any other event you can think of that has a text message associated with it. The window used to configure your Audio Triggers can be accessed via the EQ button -> Actions -> Audio Triggers. There are a couple key ideas that make up Audio Triggers. Audio Triggers are a collection of text patterns associated with a sound effect. The window shows a list of all active audio triggers. They are sorted by priority so that the first pattern that matches text in the chat window will be the one and only sound that is played. This allows patterns to be made, for example, "tells you" and "yourbuddy tells you" that may have different sound effects. The "Move Up" and "Move Down" commands allow you to control which patterns will be tested first. Creating a new trigger is a simple matter of typing text in the "Pattern" field, selecting a sound in the "Sound" control, and pressing "Create". The other controls include: * Apply - changes the sound selected for the current pattern. Note that changing a pattern requires a new pattern to be made. * Play - plays the currently selected sound again. * Delete - delete the currently selected trigger. Trigger Sets Trigger Sets are similar to choosing a UI skin. Each trigger set represents a set of patterns associated with sounds that is stored on a per-character basis. You can switch trigger sets by selecting the drop-down control and selecting among the listed options. Unless you have installed custom Audio Trigger sets, you will only see the "default" entry. Each trigger set is stored as a folder in the AudioTrigger folder in your EverQuest directory which can contain .wav files unique to that trigger set. The goal here is to provide a way for the player community to create and share their own Audio Trigger sets that people find useful for different classes or play styles, much like they have done for custom UI skins. An example of a useful trigger set may be a set of patterns There are many possibilities. Due to the differences in play styles, there is no way to predict what settings people might prefer so the default settings are empty. We encourage players to discover and share ways to make this a fun part of their gameplay. Notes on customizing Audio Triggers: * Any .wav files found in the folder .\AudioTriggers\shared will be made available to all Audio Trigger sets in the Sound selection control. You will probably want to put most of your custom sounds in this folder, unless you are making custom Audio Trigger sets. * Creating a new Audio Trigger set is similar to making a new UI skin. It's not complicated but it's not built into the UI. Create a folder in .\AudioTriggers\NewTriggerSetName and put any .wav files specific to this trigger set in there, and you will be able to start using the new trigger set the next time the program is started. * User settings for each Audio Trigger set can be found in .\userdata\AT_TriggerSetName_CharacterName_ServerName.ini. You can copy these files to other characters as needed. You will probably want to include a sample of this if you make an Audio Trigger set that you plan to share because this is what contains all the details on each specific trigger pattern and sound. The above instructions are available in-game via the help button on the audio triggers window. *** Shrouds/Monster Missions *** - Tribute will now be properly disabled when in shrouded form. - GuildTribute is now properly disabled when in shrouded form. - You cannot guild invite someone who is shrouded. - Adjusted the power scaling of Spirit Shrouds level 55 and above. As you unlock higher tier shrouds you will see a larger difference in their power level. *** Items *** - Light Amphibian Hide Slippers now have the effect "Form of Protection" - Cultural Charms will now be able to receive augments. - Whisps of Potameid Hair will now drop occasionally from some of the Potameids in Jagged Pine. - The experience required on many of the intelligent items has been reduced significantly to bring them more in line with evolving items. *** Tradeskills *** - Charm Patterns now stack better! - Players will now be able to make journeyman’s charm patterns instead of cloth caps! - The spells Night Stalker and Night's Beckon now use the proper thickener. - Saltpeter and Crystallized Sulfur should drop about 10 times as often as they did in the past. - Pan Seared Orange Tuna will no longer magically transform your non stick frying pan into a stew pot if you make a mistake while making it. - Radiant Titanite of Quickening and Pure Quickening can now be made by rogues. - Scribe Rikik in Rathe Mountains found the inventory that he had lost during the move from Gukta. - The spell Light of Order will now use the proper ink. - The Darkhollow Geode task changed. Only Artisans will accept the Geode. *** NPCs *** - Cartographer Slipgear is reviewing his notes and discovered that some of his maps are not properly accredited. Speak with him if you have provided him with a map but not received credit for it. - The Knight of the Dread Sun will now make his appearance more often. - Atheling Plague has decided that heights aren't to his tastes, so he has left his tower. *** Quests *** - Added a new quest to reward players for completing the mission story arcs in Darkhollow. Speak with the old shiliskin fortune teller in Undershore for details. *** UI *** - There is now a button on the Options/Display page to "turn off" your helm’s graphic. - You will now see all text color options. - If you cancel a coin selection and then attempt to select crystals instead, the crystals will now appear on your cursor and not the coin. *** Miscellaneous *** - You will now be able to remove gold from your shared bank or regular bank if you die with an item on your cursor. - When using Find to find the Fishing Supply merchant you will no longer lock up. - Seru's animations are now fixed. - If a character dies while LD, Charmed or Feared the corpse can will be able to be dragged by the appropriate people. - We have fixed any remaining issues with setting a portion of your experience to go to AAs and then losing regular experience. - Client stability fix. This specifically happened while raiding with many many different types of particle clouds being used. - The issue involving the loss of a portion of a player's mana, hitpoints, and endurance after zoning is now fixed. - We have fixed the issue involved with the loss of half a player's mana, hitpoints, and endurance after zoning from a death. - Added some additional logging and error-checking to the Plane of Time. These changes should address the issue where an instance would not progress past Phase 1 in some circumstances. - Numerous raid management systems fixes have been made. *** Chat *** - Players in shrouded form will not auto-join class chat channels. *** Pets *** - Pets will once again receive HP from their items. *** Regen *** - Regen will work properly after becoming your main character after being a shroud. Iksars rejoice. *** PvP *** - You can no longer loot an item from someone else's corpse if you kill them in an arena. *** Evolving Items *** - You can now see the final result after adding an augment to an item. *** Spells *** - Detrimental spells will not be marked as used if used in a non-combat zone like PoK. - Several Ranger spells have been modified once again: * Ward of the Hunter - Replaced the ATK bonus, lowered the double attack bonus to 3%. * Howl of the Predator - Replaced the ATK bonus, lowered the double attack bonus to 3%. * Strength of the Hunter - Replaced the ATK bonus, removed the double attack bonus. - Greater Familiar is no longer an instant cast spell. *** Skills *** - Berserker axe throwing skills have had their timers modified. The stun and snare type abilities will now be on one timer, and the jolt and volley sets will be on another.

Not quite sure I understand what this means. What issues were they having and what did they fix it to do?

yay! a nice change instead of the skeleton army event for the passed few Halloweens. This a scavenger hunt, but part of a larger event (details later on). here is the quest to the best of my memory.

**You can either go straight to collecting the pieces, or go to the quest NPC to receive the container used to combine the pieces. Container means you need to have and open inventory slot before receiving it.

~*~ Trick or Treat quest ~*~
Starts in Kithicor forest, the top-left corner of the zone, due west of the ZL to Rivervale. Old Man Draykey is in this corner. Hail and go through his text, and you will receive his book of hints and a "Trick-or-Treat Bag". Then, target and /say Trick or treat to these 10 NPCs.

Zone/location, NPC/type, and quest item (no particular order)
Unrest (in either or the hedge mazes) - Crabby the Rotten (ghoul) - candy jack-o-lantern
Befallen (in a locked room on bottom floor, kill 'a shadowknight' to get the keys) - Wraps McGee (LDoN mummy) - tasty candy
West Karana (wanders the square field, Miller family farm) - Scary Miller (scarecrow) - rock candy
Netherbain Lair (stands still, in any cave) - Poil Lolp (a netherbain) - lollipop
Field of Bone (wanders the bone pit) - ? (named iksaur skeleton) - caramel apples
Castle Mistmoore (stands in back of the graveyard) - Nate (LDoN undead?) - fairy fizzles
West Commonlands (wanders along and around the path) - Guard Ragus - stone candy
Iceclad Ocean (sitting inside igloo, in the Gnome village) - something the Chef (male gnome) - chocolate coin
Toxxulia Forest (stands on the beach/west wall of the zone same side as Kerra Ridge ZL) - Fuzz (male kerran) - gummie kobolds
PoK (elevator to the top of library) - Grand Historian - jawbreaker

Anyone having a problem with the full screen setting just randomly dropping you back to partial screen? I have WIN XP Pro, I downloaded the new NVIDIA driver. I do not have the mouse problem but when I go in, at full resolution, and tell it go play in full screen it does that for about 2 to 5 minutes and then randomly makes the whole program minimized, when you click it in the bar to return it to full size it comes back up fixed size at about 1/3 of the desktop. Horrible thing during a fight, died 3 times. Thanks for any ideas. MJH

I sort of had that problem. It seemed like I had a never ending right-hand side and bottom to my screen. Like my mouse could go right off the screen in those directions and if I happened to click anywhere near the right or bottom edge of the screen it would minimize EQ. Has gotten me killed once already and came real close a couple more times. Ticked me off a lot, cuz as a Bard I am a frantic clicker and this is bound to happen a whole lot for me.

this is nice sence now in game lag will not show up on your mouse curser making it laggy to click on buttons moving fast or with a lot of lag u wont get that mouse lag. this is nice. very nice. a much needed change thats been needed for a while.

BUT..

now the mouse moves freely OFF of EQ window to the desktop or other areas of the screen
for MOST people they wont care
NOTE: this patch does require u to have windows XP SP2 installed though or the SP1 compatibility fix or Win 2000

however for me and a small percentage (im asuming) other people that play eq in a window thats smaller than their desktop, so they can run programs MSN Messanger, TeamSpeak, Frontpage, EQwatcher, winamp, powerDVD when im watching a DVD on the second monitor (AIM, icq, etc...) so now as im playing and clicking on raids and playing eq im alwasy chainging focus from eq to other things when i dont want to.

SO .... can we please set it so it uses the system mouse but does not go from eq unless u press alt + tab or CTRl + Escape

Honistly i have never realy had a problem with just alt tabbing to the next application i want to use.

halloween quests
# Oct 28 2005 at 11:23 AM Rating: Decent
So apparantly all the halloween quests are pretty much worthless (unless you need a 130hp shield)

I completed all 5 with hopes that Zigan Ribshard in PoK would give me something or whatever, but unfortunately he still gives the same quest text.

What a monumental waste of time.

Mouse fix xp

To fix the mouse thing, go to microsoft update and and update your computer. I have xp and I had to download service pack 2 and everything worked fine after that.
HG
# Oct 28 2005 at 7:32 AM Rating: Decent
Took down 5 HG in Rathe Mountians no more then 9pp in coin. NERFED again??

So now they are 100% resist if you're not in melee range....making them tough for pacitical expirence and leveling. They're only function being plat farming.

So now it stands no good for leveling, and no good for plat.

Looks like you can now have the Hill gaints all to yourself and not worrie about KS!

Nice.

This was an interesting update
# Oct 28 2005 at 7:02 AM Rating: Decent
So if I read the reviews correctly, this is what I see sony has doe in this patch......

1) Change the UI to something 'better', but it might require a few patch files over the next 2 weeks. To allow you time to use this new 'better' UI, Sony has disabled the old one.

2) Hint about the possibility of adding a Halloween event, only after everyone and their dog asked for it about 1 billion times.

3) Finally allowed the UI to be Windows compliant, or close to it, by actually using the mouse. I know my first hot key setup will be something like '/url www.allakhazam.com'

4) Fixed the usual 100 minor bugs, ignoring all the exploits, of course.

5) Give players the ability to change sounds. What The Hell?!?!?!?!? With all that is wrong with this game, that effort could have been better spent fixing more bugs, or better yet, exploits.

6) ***** the Rangers. Of this, I had no doubt.

Is it just me or is Sony only making changes that make the game look better and sound better. I quess Sony has the usual brain dead waste-of-flesh luke warm bodies in the Marketing Department that ply the age old addage of Marketing 'You never change the product, you only change the packaging'.

There's a fix message now on the patch message... need the windows compatibility toolkit:

he steps below will solve the problem of having a stuck mouse in the upper left hand corner of your screen while running in full screen mode on Windows XP. If you are experiencing this problem with any other OS, please try these steps as well.

First download the Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit from this location. It's about 7Megs. Once it is downloaded, install the application.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/.NetStandardServer/Install/2.6/NT5XP/EN-US/act26.exe

You can then launch the application by going to your start menu, Program Files, Windows Compatibility Toolkit, then click on the Compatibility Administration Tool.

Under the System Database section, click on Applications.
In the right list view scroll down to the EverQuest entry.

Double click the EverQuest entry.
Now right-click the EQGame.exe entry in bold that shows up in the right hand view and choose Disable Entry.

You will now be able to use your mouse while in full screen mode on Windows XP. This will also allow you to alt-tab from EverQuest.

Thank you.

Alot of good that does NOT do when EQ isn't even listed.
Don't copy / paste the so called fix without checking it out yourself.

RE: can't play game
# Oct 28 2005 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
Actually, those steps work perfectly.
Make sure you have downloaded the file correctly and then follow the outlined instructions and it works like a charm.
Once the Compatibility Administrator is Open (you may need Administrator level access for this, unsure) - the left window will show (expanded):

- System Database
+ Applications
+ Compatibility Fixes
+ Compatibility Modes
- Custom Databases
New Database(1) [Untitled_1]

Click ON the Applications label and the right side window will show a large list of Applications. Scroll down to Everquest and follow the steps above and it works fine.

did that... several times..... didn't work.... went to Alt O changed it there.... didn't work... camped came back did it again... didn't work.... upped resolution... the windows grew as well... /loadskin Default_Old ..... didn't work... camped came back upped resolution again.... loaded old default again.... and not just on one toon but all 8 of them... redid drivers several times as well just to make sure that wasn't it... DIDN'T WORK.... are we seeing something here.... IT DIDN'T WORK...

now I have a resolution higher then I'm used to... still have these windows that refuse to reduce in size they just get bigger the higher the resolution... and I have this nasty wide black band down the right side of my screen that gets bigger the higher the resolution as well... and yes I've reset the monitor as much as I can and it's still there... and just to make double sure I tried the load old default command... still didn't work

I am sorry to hear this patch seems to have completely befuddled your setup's ability to run the game.
I do not know if I am getting your steps exactly right though, when you say "upped the resolution" - do you mean you changed your monitor screen resolution, or the resolution settings of the game via the options tool prior to logging into Norrath?
I suggest leaving your monitor resolution just as you had it before the patch - then open the "eqclient.ini" file and scroll down till you see:
BitsPerPixel=??
Width=????
Height=????
If the numbers after width and height are set under 1280 and 1024 respectively, change width to 1280 and height to 1024.
BitsPerPixel you should probably have at least to 32 already, if less than that, set to 32.
Save and exit.
I really have no idea if that will help with your particular problem, but hopefully so.
Good luck.

# Oct 28 2005 at 6:59 AM Rating: Default
I did what you suggested, went all the way out reset my monitor to what it used to be, changed the settings in the .ini file prior to logging back in (after making a copy of the original and putting it on my desktop just in case) and still no joy. It's getting really frustrating, I'm not a computer dummy and have plenty of ram, good speed processor on all of my computers and it wouldn't be so bad if it were just one of them that wouldn't work properly but it's all 4 of them messing up in the same way. I wouldn't be nearly as mad or frustrated but trying to fix the same thing on all 4 leads me to believe it's a programming fault not mine. I even went through and did a full file scan on all of them to make sure I had all the right files in the right place, and still no joy.

Another thing I've noticed on all of them, when I have one in trader mode and tab out to look at something on another window the trader inventory window goes blank I get kicked out of trader and have to camp then come back to get the inventory and buttons to show up. Has anyone else had this problem or is my system totally messed up?

Thanks for trying to help sorry if I came off as some kind of demented female dog in the posts before this one

i dont mind it, i like change. as for the post up a above, only thing i can say is up the Resolution. i know i have to run at a significantly higher resolution to have everything slimed down, thats one thing i hope they can fix. cuz it all looks a bit bulky under 1800x1440 for me. looks like it needs some tweaks but if SoE fixes them it should be ok. on the other hand i am IRKD about the change of my ranger spells AGAIN! taking DA all the way down to 3% per is a lil overkill on the downgrade. i understand they put the attack back in but it just seems like its not enuff to make our spells worth it again. anywho. thats my 2cp.

Deadly patch
# Oct 27 2005 at 7:43 PM Rating: Decent
I'd just like a game that works. Used to be able to play the game - now can't. On Nvidia based systems you are told to go get the new driver. You do so, you still can't get into the game. eqgame.exe bombs out. This is the worst update I've ever seen.
RE: Deadly patch
# Oct 27 2005 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
My wife did that and the login section went screwy. I stayed with my 7801 Driver and ignored the warning and went into game and played for abit. On her computer, I over wrote the new driver with the 7801 version and she can now play. Will not use the updated Nvidia driver until Sony gets their head out of their...well you know where.
UI
# Oct 27 2005 at 7:32 PM Rating: Good
never have I been so dissapointed with a UI as I am this one, and before anyone says load the old one I've tried that repeatedly and got illegal command. /trader doesn't show what's in inventory it's just a blank box and I can't click on anything to go into trader mode, forget the jewelry making the bag doesn't show anything either, neither does the stove, spit or mixing bowl. I've got a actual view window of about 6" in the middle of my screen, none of the windows will resize unless I change screen resolution and then they resize to give me the same little hole in the middle. All of the spell sets my chanter had saved are gone, the spell bar takes up a box about 4" wide and all the spell gems bleed into each other, tried casting KEI on a guildie and tashed him instead cause the stupid buttons wouldn't work and when i hit the button for KEI instead it cast one 4 buttons away. Toggle camera views won't work either so I can't look around from different views and MAYBE have a chance of seeing a mob before it kills me. As for the new cursor and mouse commands don't even get me started there cause none of them work either. Haven't tried the audio commands what's the point if they screwed up the simple things I'm darn sure not going to try something like that, never use audio anyway I always keep them muted.

SO ANSWER ME THIS SOE HOW THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO GO OUT AND FIGHT WHEN I CAN'T SEE THE MOBS, CAN'T CAST THE RIGHT SPELLS, CAN'T USE THE TOGGLE CAMERA VIEWS TO WHERE I COULD SEE A MOB FROM ABOVE????
GIVE ME BACK MY OLD UI DARN IT
