Changes Made to the Time of Event

The "Trick or Treat" event scheduled to start on Oct. 20, 2005 17:00 (PDT) will commence as soon as the PlayOnline server maintenance scheduled on Oct. 20, 2005 from 8:00 to 18:00 (PDT) is complete. Depending on the maintenance operation, the start time of the event may be subject to change. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

ok you guys i have heard this time and time again "omg SE hates us NA players and they always do updates during our peak times" listen guys this is a japanesse game if you guys arent aware we are lucky they even released it here they could have just forgetten about north america and go straight to europe this game is owned by a japanesse company so they are gonna try and please thier japanesse customers first and if you dont like it go play guild wars or WoW or everquest or w/e XD

Sure this is a Japanese game, but when NA players outnumber the JPs you'd think they would want to not **** off their bigger demographic...

Wow, okay. Lets clear the air in here for a minute /ma "Deodorize" <AOE>. Okay, there. On one hand, I can understand the frustration of having a game we all love being down during our playtime and needing to vent. But lets not forget why SE has to do a lot of maintenance most of the time. I can say it in one word > DDOS. If some people would stop attacking the system (for any reason) SE wouldn't have to do so much maintenance trying to plug the holes the hackers find, and cause so much down time.

This is just my opinion so feel free to rate up or down, the rating system really doesn't matter that much to me. /em shakes with laughter.
Let me clear things up for everyone...

Alright let me make this simple, the actual maintenence is being done on the server itself (the hardware not the software) If anyone bothered to read the PoL site they would know that. To quote the maintenence team "The backbone of the PlayOnline server equipment will be exchanged." So this is the reason it will take the noted period of time.
Geez

Wow! I just wanted to see if someone was brilliant enought to list what PDT is in relation to NA Time Zones. I never thought there would be this much buzz on such a small issue.

1. What's up with bringing up ppl on welfare? Who cares what we all do in rl, it is just a game. I pay my taxes - you're welcome. Maybe this gives the scum of society a chance to turn in a few job applications.

2. I can't believe people have enough time on their hands to type up worthless comments about something none of us can do anything about. Seriously, what's the point? This site would be much more valuable if people would actually post applicable information.

I love the game as much as the next guy, but I know ******* isn't gonna speed SE up at all. Think I'll check out what's goin on in RL. See you all after the update!^^

If you are really that unhappy with the game then quit. No one is forcing you to pay for their services. If you are that upset, then you can only blame yourself.

This is purely for maintenance, not the event. They only posted...

...because this maintenance was going to run over the original time that the event was going to start. No where does it say this maintenance is for the event. The event was supposed to start at 17:00, but due to maintenance, it's starting sometime around or after 18:00.

I'm glad that ths update is being done. I am greatly looking forward to the upcoming haloween event. ^^ this will be my first time, and I've seen a rabbit constume only once. GIMME!!! The pitchfork looks pretty nifty aswell, and I cant wait untill I can be out in East Ronufare jumping the lil bunnies!!! Vile creatures they is. I hope you all enjoy this event as much as I'm sure to! take care.

Keep in mind, this maintenance is NOT for the event AT ALL. Its simply PoL maintenance being done about the login troubles people have been experiencing. I hope people are not confused about this.

I hope the last update we downloaded was for the event. If not, we'll have another one after this maintenance. Remember, this is maintenance, not update.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear :( Even better though, a POL and FFXI maininence ^^ notice one right after the other there, and this is all about the event. I mean, look at the title... "Changes Made to the Time of Event". But you are right as well most likely. I (I may be wrong so do not quote this) beleive that they might be fixing the issues with loging in aswell in the POL section of the 2-part maintinence.

Edit: Cause it made me look mean :( So I fixed my wording ^^

Just a PoL maintenance actually... they aren't doing anything with FFXI maintenance today. It sort of makes me wonder why it would take 10 hours. Either way, I agree with a below poster on doing it either daily or bi-weekly for a few hours. It would be much simpler and make less people upset.

I'm off to explore Guild Wars. Enjoy the downtime -.-

I guess I dont understand why they are disguising a POL update as an event notice >.> Which is what this topic is supposed to be about, the event. Which i'm still psyched about! So... anyone know any nice free web games they'd like to share to help pass the time? I swear I musta played/watched everything on newgrounds already.

I don't understand where you are getting the impression that they are disguising the update as an event notice. SE previously announced that the event would start today. They ended up having to do get this emergency POL update and its an event notice because the update is changing the start of the event time.

o.O bit off there on your assumptions. Yes I know this is a notification that there is an update which will be followed by the introduction of the "Trick or Treat" event. It sorta says it at the top, so I replied showing my enthusiasm for what is happening. dunno how people took something so basic so far off track >.>

Where are the servers really?
# Oct 20 2005 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
As its expected, everyone wants to complain about this. Its my day off and I'm peeved as well. But no use crying over spilt milk I guess. Nothing we complain about will make the game come up any faster. (And trust me, I'm mad.)

But some people are saying that the servers are located in North America. Maybe I'm just not sure, but it was my understanding that the servers were located in Japan, which was partly responsible for the old "delay" between JP and NA players before they added the enemy claim delay.

I suppose they could be in the eastern side of American - hence PDT - but that would mean that the delay BEFORE the fix (meaning awhile ago) was manually put there to give the JP the first advantage. If that is the case, then it IS a conspiracy!

In any case, there is always Guild Wars for me or some other more obscure title that will pass the time for my boring day off.

Peak Hours?

I can recall once, maybe twice, when they had maintenance/updates overnight during JP peek hours. Why is it that they can't switch off here and there. Like have the next maintenance (and there will be another, probably next week) over the JPs peek hours? Maybe having the majority of one country pissed off at them is better than 3+....
You know...
# Oct 20 2005 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know if this has been said before (it probably has at one point or another, but I'll say it again just for good measure), but assuming that the servers to which maintenance is being performed are located in North America, the maintenance times would be somewhat consistent with regular work hours. It's possible that the maintenance hours falling over NA/EU primetime is due to the fact that SE is unable to find a sufficient number of employees who are willing to work on server maintenance at two o'clock in the morning.

Yes it's an inconvenience (I only had one class today which ended at 11:50am central, so I was planning on playing a lot today), but for everyone who keeps screaming "Why can't they do maintenance over JP primetime omg!?" just realize that this might not always be possible for them. Maybe you should all take jobs performing maintenance to PoL servers on the graveyard shift?

I think it's funny that they do maintenance at 2AM - 8AM in Japan. Silly nocturnal JPs. It's almost as if they are purposely shafting us ~.^ Oh well, looks like I'm getting a few extra hours of sleep tonight! :D (If my times are incorrect, I apologize, I just searched "current time in japan" and thats what I got.)
