The Doll Festival (Feb. 28)

Master, have you ever heard of the Doll Festival, kupo? The Doll Festival is a Far Eastern celebration where people pray for the health and happiness of girls. During this time, girls are given rice treats to eat, and have a special place to decorate with dolls, kupo. A festival that provides such a fun opportunity for laughing and playing sounds like a great idea, don't you think, kupo? You know, since a lot of the lady adventurers out there grew up in the aftermath of the Crystal War, I bet they didn't get a chance to enjoy this festival, kupo... And that's why the Mog House Management Union has come up with a plan! We're going to return those lady adventurers to their childhoods, and give them the experience they never had, kupo! Hm? You don't think you're up for it? And what about the guy adventurers? Don't you worry, kupo. Try talking to the moogles in charge of the festival and see what happens! This time you're in for some real moogle magic, kupo! [Participating in the Event] -Form a party of 10 and talk to the moogles around town. You will receive a present in celebration of the Doll Festival! -The moogles will only consider players in the same area when counting the number of party members. -Items can only be received from the moogles once every Vana'diel day. -Characters that have just been created can only receive items from the moogles after one Vana'diel day has passed. [Event Areas] Southern San d'Oria Northern San d'Oria Bastok Mines Bastok Markets Windurst Waters Windurst Woods *This event is scheduled to take place between February 28 at 19:00 and March 13 at 19:00.

# Mar 03 2005 at 3:55 AM Rating: Decent
I got 12 cakes, myself

3 of each race in Vanadiel

Didn't do anything in particular... just had 6 guys, and four girls.

Everyone was happy.
Clarification
# Mar 02 2005 at 10:25 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, there seems to be a bit of confusion between people regarding this quest, so I thought I'd clear things up for those of you who want to try it out, rather than sit here and complain about it.

First off, as I assume you already know, there are six locations with moogles:

Southern San d'Oria (K-9)
Northern San d'Oria (D-8)

Bastok Mines (I-9)
Bastok Markets (G-8)

Windurst Waters (F-5)
Windurst Woods (K-10)

Each of these moogles will give you the "quest" (though, its not realy a quest, its an event :P) To complete this quest, you must form an allianced party of 10 people, no more, no less; after, go talk to one of the moogles listed above (with your party/alliance still together) and receive your gifts.

The rewards of this are 4 different types rice cakes, each type turns you into a female child(Hume rice cake= Hume female child; Mithra rice cake= mithra child; Tarutaru rice cake= Tarutaru female child; Elvaan rice cake= Elvaan female child)
The ammount and type of rice cake(s) varies, not sure if this is random, or has to do with how many guys/girls in the party.
Also, this event can only be done once every Vana'diel day (yes, you can do the quest again when the Vana'diel clock resets to 0:00, you dont need to wait 24 game hours)

There have also been some rumors going around, a couple which I know are not true:

"You need a party of 6male and 4female characters"
This is not true, I've done this with a party of 4 male and 6 female characters and 5/5; there might be a need for a 9/1 ratio, I'm not positive about that.

"You can only complete the event once a day"
"You have to wait 24 hours to do the event again"
The first one here is true, but often mistaken. You can only complete this quest once every Vana'diel day. As soon as the game clock resets to 0:00, you can do the quest again.

Hope this little bit of info helps. If you see something wrong here, please correct me. :P

*edits*
If you create a new character, you must wait one untill the clock resets to 0:00 (the next day) before you can do the quest.

There is NOT another reward becides the rice cakes, no armor, no weapons, no furniture, just the rice cake foods.

There IS such thing as Elvaan rice cakes; just quite rare I guess.

the 6 male 4 female ratio is needed to obtain 3 of each cake. Otherwise you will recieve varying amounts. 6:4 is the correct ratio for the "best" rewards.

C'mon...after the stinky Valentione's day "event" (whoa...a crystal I can't use is called an event!?) this is awesome. So they're not having some super-awesome event item, so what...at least it's something that involves everyone and that appears to have been thought out (unlike the event mentioned earlier).

Of course, I am not complaining. ;)

Reading some of the posts for this event, it seems that there is a player haters ball going on. Really people, do you have to complain about how much the event s***s or how stupid others are? Also I see a lot of racism on this event forum. I feel sorry for you all. Well not really, cause in the end karma will catch up to you.
outside aread
# Mar 01 2005 at 11:03 PM Rating: Decent
do these cakes work in outside areas or just in cities like all other costumes. I would think it would be cool to be a little elvaan casting Ifrit or something it would resemble me a little more than my character would.

Oh Wow! Girl's Day in Vanadiel. Ever since I can remember my family (I'm Japanese/American) has celebrated this day 3/3 and Boy's Day 5/5 (we hang a fish for every "boy"). It is a wonderful custom and lets the children know they are important too. Rock on SE.

I've still gotta do the 'Fit for a prince' quest in Sandy. Would it be possible to be turned from my elvaan male into a female taru (hopefully getting the right characteristics) and then go to the prince and finish the quest that way? That would make it alot easier then trying to find the right look by shouting...
RE: Question...
# Mar 01 2005 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
You don't seem to be able to interact with NPC's or even open doors while in costume.

#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 01 2005 at 5:56 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think the events sometimes go abit too far. Like the Gob-Mog thing that lasted almost a month. They go on and on it's just gets boring after awhile like the X-mas decorations. They were cool at first but then it became take them down it looks tacky. There been too many events I mean I enjoy doing some of the events that are tied to it.

It doesn't need to be 4-6 i had 2x 5-5 partys moogle says And by the way, the 5 guys represent musicians who entertain the empress and emperor. I wish i could play an instrument, kupo!
i got 1 hume, elvaan and tarutaru cakes for doing this in windy my other character done this in bastok and got 1 hume and 1 tarutaru cake.

[edit] i noticed people complaining about this festival. noone is forcing you to take part in it so why complain about it. I think it is a good change of pace especially from the exp grind and experiencing other cultures is something you wouldn't experience in most other games. Kinda fun having my friend see me run by as a hume then come back to her a minute later as a taru she kinda freaked out hehe.

Yeah you can still get some with other pt setups, but doing it with 4-6 gives 3 Hume 3 Mithra 3 Elvaan and 3 Tarutaru cakes.
RE: cakes and partys

We got the 3 of each by having 5 bards in the party. two of the bards were Mithra, therefore tha bards don't have to be all male.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 01 2005 at 5:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hey, I am the first to nail people for complaining about things. Especially things that are fully in their power to avoid and this is a prime example. However, it is their right to complain until they are blue in the face... or in this forum until they get carpal tunnel. Unless they are blatantly offensive then let the uncultured windbags blow. I lived in Japan for a while and let me tell you, they are an interesting people though they are a bit weird. And if you don't think Japanses people complain about our weird American holidays, you are sorely mistaken. So if you were Asian, you don't think a fat man in a red hat flying half of a zoo around the world in a night would strike you as a little stupid? Hell, at least their weirdness is a little more "grounded". People are weird all over the world in various ways. They got thier deal, we got ours. I say stop being a bunch of whiny sissies and play the game the way YOU want to play it. I don't like the fishing, so guess what? I don't fish! (Though I might have to check out the fishing after this last update.) Go level, make some loot or do what that other guy does. Exploit the suckers. After all, that IS the American way, right? Ha ha ha.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 01 2005 at 11:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Umm... christmas isn't just an american holiday, it's a friggin christian holidy... ******. Last time I checked that religion wasn't just in america... it's the damndest thing that you rip on america for having a fat guy in a red suit that "flies around the world in one night"... if it was an american holiday only, why the hell would be go around the world... you need to think about what your typiing before your post, you just made yourself sound like a total jack ***.
RE: opinions
# Mar 02 2005 at 5:36 AM Rating: Decent
Actually the fat guy on a sled is pretty much American. The model for "Santa" is from a Coke commercial from last century. Remember that Jesus fellow? Well he is what is "Christian" about Christmas.. Santa is the commercial fellow.

Other countries have varied ideas of the fat guy, some have shoes instead of stockings, some see him as tall and slim, some have a female that passes out the presents...

p.s. That is what thinking before you post gets you. Oh, and anonymous is for punks.
RE: opinions
# Mar 02 2005 at 4:27 PM Rating: Default
Guess what... Santa Clause isn't only american... there is Chris Kringle, St. Nicholas (Saint is usually representing a holy being related to THE RELIGION), Shengdan Laoren, Pere Noel, Christindl, the Christ Child oh... FATHER CHRISTMAS, he is apart of most cultures, just different names, but all represent the same guy, and show basically a similar image for all. So unless your saying that it's silly that we call him Santa, which is utterly stupid to begin with, shut up. Also... they use shoes instead of stockings? Wow man, that was the best difference you could come up with? Oh no, im sure the japanese people think us americans are crazy bastards for hanging stockings instead of shoes ^o^ OMG. Yes, Christ is what christmas is all about, but Santa is a staple of the holiday all around the world. Call him what you will, but it's all representing the same guy. And about your Coke thing... The image of santa has been along WAY longer than Coke was ever even a thought in someones mind, so get your facts straight. His hat was influenced from the hats that the magi supposedly wore, also argued that headgear from the french revolution influenced it... Hmm, French, Magi, wow, both are things that weren't invented by north america. Isn't that the damndest thing. Try reading up on history and myths, it is a great topic.

It's nice to see OTHER people here think smart as well, too bad there was only one other that spoke up. (im only talking about the santa topic, no offense to anyone who didn't get in on this silly argument.)

My point was that the modern version of the Character of "Santa" (fat guy, red suit, perfectly trimmed snow white beard, the homogenized image in every store front from the day after Halloween till the 26th of December) is primarily NA. St Nick, Chris Kringle, Shengdan Laoren, Pere Noel, Christindl, father Christmas... pretty much originating from other countries. And pretty much from prior to our existence as a country... so if you could stop agreeing with me.. Thanks much.

The American sense of "We created the world" is so much fun to watch in action....

In my family (We are Korean and Japanese.) we have done something a little different. You see, we display dolls, but they aren't girls' dolls. They're more like test dummies. And we paint them to everyone's liking. ^_^

My dad came up with that when I was a kiddie, and my wife and I still do it because it's a lot of fun. She's Korean, and I'm Japanese/Korean, so we can't really be traditional...But hey, we start our own traditions. It's kinda like Easter! XD

Rate that up if ya' like the idea. ^^

Personally, only two things stuck out in my mind about this event.

One, no one was told it was coming, so we were all a little confused when we saw little NPCs running around. This surprised me because usually the changes for the day are done at 11am EST (midnight Tokyo time).

Two, this year's spring event was more pervasive in it's appearance. I'm hoping that this will change as the event moves along, but last year I remember seeing cherry blossom trees everywhere, and this year I see a couple, but it's just not the same.
This is great!

Any culture is as beautiful as your own and it should be respected as such. As being from Brazil and living in the USA for quite some time I have have been disapointed to see many Americans critize other cultures including latin, indian, japanese and others. Please keep any harmfull comments to yourself, you dont want me telling 4th of july is gay do you ?!

some of us might wanna hear you say it lol ^^; i remember my conversations with many jp players ive noted that for the most part they generally dont care to help or talk to american players this is ntoa 100% rule mind you just something ive noted.... anywayz back on point if you ATTEMPT to learn their language youll find they are very kinda and decent players even have one jp that i pt with and who has drug me along to some areas to pl me O_O but i think its just because i took the time to learn the language as well as attempting to use what i know as opposed to the auto translate ^^; just a thought

edit: oops got off subject... welll ne wayz my point is this...

They are very accepting of our american cultures and traditions and have had some bad feedback from americans when they attempt to learn and use our language yet they find it a compliment if you accept thers and attempt to learn so anyone wants to complain about japanese events and culture should have there account banned ^^; afterall... where did final fantasy origionally come from? ^^

Hina Matsuri
# Mar 01 2005 at 1:14 PM Rating: Excellent
Doll's festival (March 3 of every year) is called hina matsuri in Japan, synonymous with "Girl's Festival". At this time, a family will display a set of dolls in their house, it is to wish their girls a happy and sweet life. That is also why sweet rice cakes are given out. Usually the participants of this festival are really young girls, but most can take part if they want. That's why you turn into baby girls :)

There is also a boy's festival too, where warrior type figures (samurai) are displayed. This is called tango no sekku, and is celebrated on May 3rd of every year.

It's good to learn another's culture! :) Hope this post explains some ...

Actually what was once boys day (now in japan called kodomo no hi or childrens day) falls on may 5. In hawaii we celebrate both, and as a kid i remember that on girls day we had to help carry the girls books and clean thier desks and such (of course they had to do the same for us on boys day).

I think it would be cool if they did boys day in Vanadiel, as one of the practices is to fly big carp banners (the carp is a very manly symbol in japan) SE could make carp easier to fish or have carp givaways, so all u Lu Shang hunters would be happy.

P.S. when i lived in japan i was also amused to know that some people even celebrate gay day -- april 4th (since 3/3 is girls and 5/5 is boys logicaly 4/4 is...) some of my openly gay friends in japan look on it as gay pride day.
