Monk Epic Riddle

SOE sent us a riddle to tease you about the upcoming Omens of War Monk Epic. I'll post it below and let you discuss it if you want and post the answer tomorrow. We are also going to have a follow-up riddle and some concept art to post about the Monk Epic on Friday. Have fun. Here's the Riddle: "As an embittered old Iksar king lay on his deathbed, he decided that a race would determine which of his two sons would inherit the throne. The sons were told to sail ships across the Timorous Deep. Because the king didn't particularly like either of his sons, he decided rights to the throne would be given to the son whose ship reached Faydwer last." "So the sons set sail and drifted on the ocean for many months, waiting for the other to reach Faydwer first. When the king finally died and the kingdom was in trouble without a ruler, the sons agreed to dock and seek the advice of a monk living on a secluded isle. After listening to the monk's advice, the two sons got back in the boats and sailed for Faydwer as quickly as possible." "Considering the monk would never betray the wishes of the Iksar king, what was the monk's advice? "

Starting NPC

I think the thing most people are missing out on, is Faydwer. It's the place where the two sons were sailing for. I'd bet that the one that got there last is the starting NPC for the Monk epic 2.0 if he reached there last, then he'd not want to return home, and live his life with the Gnomes maybe.....

the monk would have told them to dock at the same time, that way they coudl rule equally and should not fight over the throne as they share it. Crappy answer i know.
Iskar king

Isn't there a king in TT, or at least the ghost of one?
Good Riddle

That was great.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 19 2004 at 10:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OK we learned this in school awhile back. The 1st person tricked the 2nd person into thinking he was already in the place so the 2nd person would go running in to claim the prize while the 2nd person would be the first 1 in and the 1st person would come in last.
A new story
# Aug 19 2004 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
If the sons are even smarter than their father, whatever ship reaches first, the other son knows that he lost so he should not make the ship he's on reach faydwer at all! and tries to sink it.

This way the winning son's ship never reaches Faydwer and it will not fulfill the condition "son whose ship reached Faydwer last"

The first son can claim the throne by saying the other ship never reached Faydwer and he brings proof that the ship had sunken.

The answer to this again would be that the winning son has to make another ship and sail it himself to claim the throne. The other son should prevents him by actually camping Faydwer & bombing the ship on sight! That would make a story already.

Yeah I do believe though that there is a second answer to the riddle that has been given depending on what you are trying to teach with the riddle. It's pretty much what SuudarSilentfury posted on Monkly-Business.

"A king has power, but no freedom. Only a fool seeks to be a slave."

The monks advice was to see who could get to fadwer and back again first at wich point they would swap and race to the kingdom, whoever got their first would be the king.

I would guess that the monk told the 2 sons to swap ships. The son's ship that arrived last would get to be King, so having the 2 swap ships would encourage a race to get the other brother's ship there first. Which ever son got to Faydwer first with the brother's ship would become King, as his own ship would arrive last.

think this is a good answer maybe the hint is that you need to go talk to the Iksar monk on the chestboard island I don't know if he was part of the first epic or not but you never know.

Like was said he's part of the Iksar Shackle/Whistling Fists quest. Problem is that he is on Swifttail(Ikky monk) faction so they would have to change his faction to a neutral one for this to be a realistic starting npc for the quest.

Yeah the first epic had parts in places unfriendly to ikkies but there were very easy ways to get around that problem. I do not see SOE forcing non Iksar monks to do all that faction just to start epic 2.0. So unless Rinmark is changed to indifferent to all I'm stumped to how this is a hint to the epic 2.0 atm.

He may be on Iksar monk faction, but that does not prevent him from being the start NPC. All the iksar monks had to acquire Frreport/Qeynos faction to do epic part 1. Faction is a way of life. This is EVERquest

There are lots of ways Iksars can get there epic without EVER doing any faction work in either human city. So no Iksar monk HAD to acquire any faction in Freeport, Qeynos, or Erudin.
