Guild Wars 2: Sky Pirates of Tyria Preview

ZAM gets an early look at the new content coming to Guild Wars 2 tomorrow. Highlight: Challenging Dungeon!

Like the Flame and Frost dungeon, players can complete the dungeon as many times as they want to get both the chest and dungeon completion rewards. One of the dungeon completion rewards is a bag holding 1g. Every time you finish the dungeon you get 1g.

The chest rewards are similar to the Flame and Frost dungeon. Players have a chance at a recipes, a monocle, and the Dragon Coffer Jackpot. The recipes include a new infinite tonic that will transform players into the First Mate Horrik and potent utility items which are one hour versions of the rank 400 crafted utility items such as the Superior Sharpening Stones.

The monocle is a combat helmet that comes in heavy, medium and light armor variants. It is a pretty simple monocle, but at least it doesn’t cost $68 to buy. Lastly is the jackpot dragon coffers. The chest normally gives a single dragon coffer as a reward, but players have a chance to hit the jackpot netting them 100 dragon coffers instead of just one. (FYI: The Dragon Bash candies’ icons were updated. New look, same great taste!)

The dungeon is not the only thing players will have to discover once the new content goes live. The Aetherblade have hidden caches of goods in jumping puzzles and mini-dungeons throughout Tyria. There are 8 achievements for finding specific caches with an achievement for finding 7 of these 8 caches. Completing 12 Sky Pirate achievements will complete the meta-achievement Against the Aetherblades which will award players with a Mini First Mate Horrik.

The gem store will also have a few rewards for players to get. One of the biggest requests is more armor sets, and ArenaNet is obliging by selling the heavy, medium and light armor sets of the new Aetherblade armor skins. These will also be available directly from the gem store, no RNG required!

Tomorrow is also the release date of the new Guild Wars novel Sea of Sorrows. To celebrate the book, ArenaNet has added a scavenger hunt to the game which starts at the recently added Cobiah Marriner’s statue in Lion’s Arch. Players will find 12 Marriner Plaques in Lion’s Arch and beyond, which will reward players who find them all with an item that awards five skill points on use.

The cool part is that the clues for where these plaques are located are not in game. Players who read the new book will be able to follow in the footsteps of Cobiah Marriner to discover the location of these plaques in game.

If you don’t want the book spoiled then DON’T READ THE PLAQUES AS THEY ARE TOTALLY SPOILERS! :(

If you want to read more about the book that does not contain spoilers, check out my interview with Ree Soesbee, author of Sea of Sorrows.

Everything mentioned here goes live tomorrow, but check ZAM next Monday as we reveal the new content coming next week!
