FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jul. 19)

Wow, this thing is huge. [Event-Related] *A new chapter has been added to "Chains of Promathia." *A new quest called "The Fellowship Quest" has been added. Upon completion of this quest, the player will receive an item used to call an NPC. -The NPC may not be called during NPC escort quests, but may be used along with beastmasters' pets, summoners' avatars, and dragoons' wyverns. -The NPC may only be called in certain field areas. -The NPC may fight monsters, gain experience, and level up with the player. -A player fighting with an NPC fellow will receive only 70% of the usual experience points gained for solo battles. -The NPC may be called only when there are less than six members in the player's group. A party may contain a maximum of three NPC fellows, along with the three players who have called them. -If the NPC's level exceeds that of the player, its status will be adjusted to match the player's level. -The NPC's equipment will occasionally change after fighting several battles. -The NPC will leave if the player: -temporarily logs out to PlayOnline -logs out -enters a different area -is KO'd -All NPCs in a party will leave if the party attempts to increase its total number of players and NPCs to seven. *Several new quests have been added, including: -A quest in which the player may acquire headgear that resembles various beastmen -Rematches with mammets and the Mithran sin hunters And more! *An NPC that tells the player's fortune regarding titles and other "elements" has been added in Mhaura. *Character title selection has been changed in the following ways: -It now costs less gil to change a player's title. Also, it now costs no gil at all to check the player's list of available titles. -The NPC bard that changes player titles will now sing out the player's title just before changing it. -After changing the player's title, the NPC bard will sing out the new title. Nearby PCs will also be able to hear the new title. -The player will now have the option to have a random title selected for him or her at no cost once each day (Earth time). -Titles earned by defeating NMs are now available for selection not just at Selbina and Mhaura, but also at Kazham and Rabao. *A chocobo riding game has been added. The player must deliver a chocobo from the chocobo stables where the quest was offered to a designated nation. *Players are now able to talk to an NPC and check the remaining time until they are able to reenter the battlefield for the ENM quests "Pulling the Strings" and "Automaton Assault." *"Return Ring" and "Homing Ring" have been added to the list of items that may be earned by exchanging conquest points. *If a player has completed the quests to get a pair of Mannequin Pumps or a Minstrel's Dagger but disposed of the item he earned, the player may now reacquire the item at the same place he attained it. *Mythril Plate Armor has been added to the list of equipment that may be stored as a key item. *A new NPC that will trade items for treasure earned by defeating Lumorian monsters has been added. [Battle-Related] *Players are now able to earn experience from monsters of a wider level range than previously possible. Experience points earned by defeating "decent challenge" and "easy prey" monsters will also increase in some instances. *Experience chain bonuses in level-restricted areas of Chains of Promathia are now determined by the level of the player while in that area, rather than the player's actual level. *Monster locations have been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. The following areas will be affected: Bibiki Bay, Uleguerand Range, Attohwa Chasm, Newton Movalpolos, Promyvion – Holla, Promyvion – Dem, Promyvion – Mea, Promyvion – Vahzl, Lufaise Meadows, Phomiuna Aqueducts, the Sacrarium, Riverne – Site #A01, Riverne – Site #B01, the Garden of Ru'Hmet, Ro'Maeve, the Boyahda Tree, the Den of Rancor, the Shrine of Ru'Avitau, Kuftal Tunnel *The damage and accuracy of a player's ranged attack are now calculated based on the distance of the player from the monster. This determination varies from weapon to weapon, as does the ideal distance for maximum damage. In addition, the higher the monster's level is with regard to the player, the less damage will be dealt with a ranged attack. *The player's enmity now decreases when a shadow image created by Utsusemi is absorbed by an attack. *Weather will no longer have an effect on the distance a player can be detected for monsters that detect based on the use of magic. *Several new notorious monsters have been added. *Creatures summoned by monsters (excluding elementals) have had their names changed to "(Monster's name)'s Avatar" for consistency. *The strength of monster techniques has been adjusted, particularly in Chains of Promathia areas. *A player who is KO'd, revived, then while still in a weakened state KO'd again will now, after a second reviving, temporarily experience a weakened attack and accuracy loss for magic and ranged attacks. *Before the update, a player who fought a monster without using auto-attack would retain his claim on the monster, even if he was KO'd in battle due to poison, etc. This has been fixed so that when the player dies, the monster becomes unclaimed. *Before the update, a monster that was claimed by a party or alliance would occasionally go unclaimed when magic or a weapon skill was used on the monster as the monster moved out of range before the magic or weapon skill could strike. [Item-Related] *Trading a wijnruit and 99 ninja tools to a certain NPC can now earn the player a toolbag. This item may be gathered in stacks of twelve, essentially increasing the player's ninja tool inventory capacity twelvefold. *New synthesis recipes have been added. *Prices at guilds have been changed to reflect the amount of each item the guild currently has in stock. The cost may rise to a maximum of five times the original price. *Some of the treasure items earned from notorious monsters in the Boyahda Tree have been changed. *The way that the following items are acquired has been changed: Archer Ring, Leaping Boots, Emperor Hairpin, Peacock Charm In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items. *The effects of the following items have been altered: Poison Potion, Venom Potion, Paralyze Potion, Sleeping Potion, Silencing Potion, Blinding Potion, Vitriol, Instant Warp, Bastok Mines gate glyph, Bastok Markets gate glyph, Port Bastok gate glyph, Eastern San d'Oria gate glyph, Western San d'Oria gate glyph, Northern San d'Oria gate glyph, Windurst Waters gate glyph, Port Windurst gate glyph, Windurst Woods gate glyph, New Year's gift, Cantarella, Black Drop, Muting Potion, Invitriol, Warp Cudgel, Trick Staff II, Treat Staff II, Teleport ring: Holla, Teleport ring: Dem, Teleport ring: Mea, Teleport ring: Vahzl, Teleport ring: Yhoat, Teleport ring: Altep, Memento Muffler, Gargoyle Boots, Zoolater Hat, Root Sabots, Aries Mantle, Anubis's Knife, Oscar Scarf, Kinkobo, Carpenter's Belt, Blacksmith's Belt, Goldsmith's Belt, Weaver's Belt, Tanner's Belt, Boneworker's Belt, Alchemist's Belt, Culinarian's Belt, Fisherman's Belt, Counter Earring, Tactical Ring, Wing Gorget, Healing Feather, Spirit Lantern, Astral Pot, Homing Ring, Return Ring, Absorbing Shield, Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Guard's Ring, Maat's Cap, Kingdom Stables Collar, Republic Stables Medal, Federation Stables Scarf, Cursed Beverage, Cursed Soup *The item "Timepiece" has been added to the list of special items a player may receive 100 days after participating in the Vana'diel Adventurer Recruitment Program. *The following item names have been changed in the English version: Panzer Mask -> Panther Mask Panzer Mask +1 -> Panther Mask +1 Amemit Mantle -> Amemet Mantle Amemit Mantle +1 -> Amemet Mantle +1 *The item name "Comet" has been changed to "Little Comet." *An attribute of the following item has been changed: Darksteel Pick +1 Delay:312 -> Delay:303 [System-Related] *Region Info may now be viewed from all areas. *Messages may no longer be sent using /tell to a player on the user's blacklist. *Along with the introduction of the Fellowship Quest, players may now combine text commands with to target their NPC fellows and execute their desired actions. Only the player who called the NPC may target it using . [Other Content] *The following changes have been made to Ballista. -If one side of an official match is low on members, entry into that force is now possible even if a match is already underway. In this case, experience may still be gained if certain conditions are met, just as if the player had entered the match from the start. Also, if a player enters during a match, both forces will receive a message notifying them of the new entry. The player must have the following in order to enter a match already underway: -A Ballista License -Enough gil to enter the match -The minimum level required for the match being played -A player who has just entered an official match or a match in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba that was already underway will temporarily be placed under "Preparing for Battle" status. -Players may now borrow the key items "Ballista Earring" and "Ballista Band" free of charge from the Pursuivant in Ru'Lude Gardens. Ballista Earring: When in possession of this item, the player will receive information about the next Ballista match and the entry registration time when entering San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, or Jeuno from one day prior to the match (Vana'diel time) until the end of the entry period. Ballista Band: When in possession of this item, the player will be given the choice of whether to keep or throw away the first Petra he quarries. Ownership of a Ballista License is not required to borrow the above items. The player may return the items simply by speaking to a Pursuivant. -Players are no longer able to adjust Petra selection settings in Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba. The player will be given the option of what to do with the first Petra quarried only when in possession of the new key item "Ballista Band." -The following rules have been changed from special rules to standard rules. -Camp locations will change when the number of participants in a match is 40 or less. -The number of Rooks will be reduced to two when there is a significant difference in the number of players on each side. -Players will now receive experience points for participating in an official match. -The system of "Open Entry" for official matches, in which all adventurers were allowed to join the force with the smallest number of participants, has been done away with and replaced by a system called "Temporary Entry," in which players may join a force regardless of allegiance. However, the player's entry is temporary, and similar to Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's "Auto-Balance" feature, the players may be redistributed for balance when the match begins. -In Ru'Lude Gardens, the player will be able to view Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba's reservation status. Reservations for the next two days (Earth time) will be shown. -The NPC Tillecoe will now inform the player of the match's level restriction when a match at Diorama Abdhaljs-Ghelsba is set to allow general participation. -Temporary items will now be distributed at the start of official matches held at the Pashhow Marshlands. -A section of the Ballista rulebook that is read out by the Pursuivant has been changed. -The rate of success for Foe Lullaby and Horde Lullaby has been lowered for players with bard as a support job. -A limit has been imposed on the amount of HP that can be absorbed by Bloody Bolts' HP Drain effect during Ballista.

I'm excited too!
I cant wait to find out how the NPC works!
Like garrison where they're all the same?
Like a Wyvern where you get to choose its name and its job is based on your sub or something?
Like an Avatar where you decide which quest to do to get a certain type of NPC.
Like a bst where you call in what you want?
I'm so stoked! I can't wait to find out!

Well first of all i think its kind of a great idea on the new Drops being Ex since it will actually be "real players" camping them and not 24hr g sellers wich makes it fun. Also i think the items such as leaping boots and **** charm wont change that much in price, Example astral ring anyone?? i remember astral ring before when it was Coffer it was still the same price so i think item price wont change that much. But one of the NM's that SE dint fix is Mee dee gi the punisher and Quu domi the gallant ~.~ wich sucks because G sellers Camp it 24/7 in phoenix server and u can bet the kote will sky rocket in price because low level g seller will mostlikely go to Camp them since there wont be anything else to camp for them unless they lvl up to 70+ and Camp HNM's.

Changes will happen, just gotta roll with it. I'm glad theyre making some of the hardest NMs to claim drop Rare/Ex versions of their items. Sure NIN tanks will have it rough, but they also made a way to carry 12 times as many tools.

I dunno, i like updates. I like the fact that SE does its best to keep adding new stuff and make sure the game is working smoothly. Take a nap or watch a movie while they do their thing, and it'll be great when theyre done.
Thank You ><

I know there is already enough posts on this page, but I figured I'd put my two cents in. I've read all this stuff about NINs no longer being able to tank because of the update but this is not true. Sure I would be happy to get a few more invites due to a lack of NIN tanks (^^;), but a NIN can still be a great alternative to PLD. The update causes NINs to lose enmity when they lose a shadow, but this is just like a PLD losing hate when they take damage. NINs may not be able to cure to regain that hate, but if they are smart they will start using Ninjutsu other than Utsusemi and will be able to hold hate just as well. This update will also cause a spike in NIN trying to DD, which is completely ok by me. Having a NIN in a party with a PLD and no WHM is very reassuring for a PLD being healed by a SMN or RDM. If for some reason there is a pulling mistake or some other strange event where the PLD won't be able to take all that damage, a NIN who can DD and use Utsusemi is a very nice security blanket.

While I know everyone either loves or hates this update, it won't drastically affect NIN tanks as long as they are good at what they do. They should still be able to hold hate no problem and now they can also focus on DDing. In a bad party, a NIN can be a PLD's best friend. Hopefully I do get more invites due to this though, lol ( although it's not like I'm waiting as long as a MNK or THF, they have it rough).

As for the NM drops, w00t! Finally I can get items for the jobs that I will (eventually) level up without having to compete with gilselling bots.

I wish people would stop being so scared, I've never seen SE hyper gimp anyjob.

All they're doing in this update is making it easier for people to get over camped items, making a ranged attack more similar to a normal attack (say by a drk) and believe it or not making a Ninja more of a tanking job.

I'll probably get flamed for that last comment so let me explain:
Plds lose hate every time a mob hits them, now Nin's lose hate every time a mob hits them.
Hmmm?
2 days of updates?

Well, I've heard rumors of SE putting the uploading the update in chunks. Maybe if you keep retrying to connect you might be able to get a portion of the update.
Goodluck with that though. The easy answer would be you'll most likely have to wait till its all over.
I say that cause the last huge update I got through just a little on my PC; downloaded like 200files installed them then got booted out for maitenance. When the maitenance was done both my PC and my laptop had to download the same (i forgot the exact number) amount of files. Why? No idea.

On a few of the larger updates this year, I have been able to get large chunks of the updates, and have them installed.

However, the closer it gets to the scheduled end for maintenance, the more difficult this becomes. Of course, b/c everybody is trying to DL the same thing, from the same place, its always a PITA to get that last little bit.

I'll probably try and snag some of the update tonight when I get home from work, even though it isn't "scheduled" to finish until 3am 7/19, my time.

I'd like to get everything installed by tomorrow morning......but being that thats JP prime time, I doubt I'll be able to get it done.

But I'm gonna try anyways.....

Everyone is worried about holding hate as a Ninja now.
I am more worried about Shurikens not being as much fun anymore. I am only a lvl 38 NIN, but throwing those little puppies around helped me keep alot of hate as well.
I hear this Update is going to affect Ranged attacks for all jobs, but how much will it affect Shurikens? That is one of the main reasons I started lvling Ninja, since you cant really run around throwing Shurikens in RL.

Hi Crusaders!!!

The implication is that Bows will be medium range, the crossbows and guns will be long range, and thrown weapons will be close range...

Thereby giving ninjas better chance of dealing damage, and forcing rangers and thfs (and gun ninjas for that matter) at a distance, preventing both melee and ranged dmg.

Now that is just based off the description that they give (or rather the way I understood their discription... we will only know for sure after the update... and even then there will be months of debate over what is the correct distance to use a ranged attack at:P)however, I would be rather depressed if all shuriken throwing ninjas have to disengage in order for them to use shuriken... However, if that is true, it means that ninjas can't use shuriken to level off worms anymore.

And on a side note, it will require rangers to have more skill with using their ranged weapons, forcing them to maintain an exact distance from the mob, and any change in hate could immediately alter their damage... I can see alot more missed barrages and weaponskills because of this.

I just hope that I can still get pt invites after the update... It would suck if nobody wants a ninja tank... Or maybe I can now go as nin/rdm like I want:P...

My guess would be that the spot for optimal RACC/RATT will now be just outside of melee attack range, but just inside of mob AOE range. The closer to the mob, the more ACC and less Damage. And the farther from the mob the less ACC and more damage. This makes you choose what is more important to you at the time. Meleeing the mob, more RACC, not getting AOE, etc, etc.??
Just my theory. We'll know soon enough.
Down with the sellers

I hope they maintain a way to get non-exclusive versions of the 4 items mentioned, just so the economy on the existing ones doesn't skyrocket (as we all know it will). I am glad SE is doing something about the problems regarding the NM campers of these items.
are ex items really good?
# Jul 18 2005 at 3:13 PM Rating: Default
i dont tihnk gil seller problems will be over at all. at least on fairy they dont seem to camp those nms but chyme. tho as i said earler, makeing archer ring EX is a really bad thing. if crafters are gonna have to camp him to make sniper rings. you cane xpect them to go up in price. and not a few hundred k... probley like a million. tho it will be nice to be able to camp some nms and not have poeple doing it just cause they wanna make gil, but for the fact that they need the item. most of our gilselelrs seem to camp other nms tho, so if yours arn't expect them to move to new ones soon. if anything i see the price of sniper rings and winged boots prices going way up
RE: are ex items really good?

omg I HATE THIS SITE I JuST LOST MY WHOLE STUPID POST ARGHGHHTHHALLJKASL:JkLK:JHGl;kj

anyways, here goes

well, the archer's ring wont be made Ex. THe stroper will now drop an item called something else, like Stroper Ring, which is rare ex and gives acc+2 ranged acc+2. The archer's ring drop will be moved elsewhere. It is yet to be seen if this new item will be able to be crafted into a sniper's ring or something like it. I doubt it though. I think archer's will go up in price as they will be a bit more rare and, as such, the sniper's will go up too. However, no one really knows as we don't know the new drop location of any of the original items.

However much I loooove the fact they are making these NM drops rare/ex and moving non rare/ex (original) items elsewhere, I don't necessarily agree with making the stroper chyme a rare/ex drop. The reason: the chyme is NOT a NM, and it pops all over the place. As a trade off, the drop rate is terrible. The problem comes is that the drop is the only one of the 4 being changed in which the crafted item is much much much better and higher in demand than the regular item (leaping boots being the only other of the 4 that can be crafted). if archer's are harder to get, their price will go up and as such sniper's will go up, which is bad. However, we may not need the sniper's if we can each get our own peacock charm clone. I do agree with you that the price of sniper's and winged boots will go up, however.

This will sort out some headaches indeed, and after the "I want mine!" boom getting Peacock Charm shouldn't be more difficult than getting the O-Bow, Shaman's Cloak or Moldative Earring to mention some.

But I'm afraid we will have to carry on facing gsellers while trying to get Damascus Ingots, Damascene Cloths and other stuff.

Still a step on the right direction from my point of view.

FFS. SEI did not nerf nin.

They DID nerf the lazy-*** nins who think they can tank just with provoke and utsusemi, and leave all their other tools at home.

Think about it. If I've got utsu up, I've got all the +enmity gear I can get at my level, and I'm spamming the elemental wheel and the enfeebles, as well as provoke immediately on recast... I shouldn't have a problem holding hate, unless the whm goes cure-happy or any of the other problems holding hate in a PT.

All SEI did was place a bit more skill on nins, and made it easier for them to carry the tools necessary by making those bundles.

EDIT: People using /nin to avoid damage, like rng/nin, will be happy as clams. (Except maybe in an arrowburn party--hate would be bouncing around pretty bad.)

FINALLY! Some real action against gilsellers! Now I can actually get an Emp Hairpin and Leaping Boots without dealing with Gilselling LS's. Even if I don't aquire the authentic items by whatever means they are changing it to, I can obtain items with the same stats from the NM's ^^, and with less of a hassle! I'd much rather compete with real authentic players for a drop, than people that camp this mob for extra beer money...Thank you SE! Best update I've seen in a long time....

Im glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that ^^. I can see the price of those ridiculously priced items dropping like a stone in the near future. What gilseller is going to camp VE when they cant sell the item?

Mwahahahaha! Square-Enix hasn't forgotten us after all! Its updates like this that let you know that someone in the big SE actually cares!

Thanks Square-Enix!

Another stupid comment from some naive noob who doesn't know anything about how much enmity a nin will lose. SE has said after they did not Initially mean for NIN to be a tank, they said they liked the idea and developed gear made for nin tanking.

It is people as stupid as this, who has already determined nin is no longer a tank, that worry me.

Ok ****, who do you think you are? I assure you I am not some naive noob who doesnt know anything about how much enmity will be lost. I've been playing this game since NA release and I assure you I know more about the game mechanics and everything about the game than you do. The hate you loose from getting a shadow hit will be the same as if you took that damage yourself, just like if any other job was taking damage. Now it's set so that the shadow hit is like you evaded the attack, it's being changed so it's like you take the damage. Nin would be able to hold hate if they weren't all stupid and used their spells that they are given. Just as monk is a good tank if they use all the abilities they are given. All these ninjas have no idea what any spell is other than utsusemi and they are stupid, and now with this update no one will want a nin tank because they won't be able to hold hate. Nins who don't use their spells can't hold hate as it is, and 90% of them don't. Just like dark knights who don't cast absorbs and don't have their dark magic capped do **** damage.

My last comment for the day is on the 4 highly camped and botted NMs. This change sucks and does not excite me in the least. Think of farming whatever ridiculous price for boots and hairpin to have them drop dramatically becaused of easier way to get them. Fun. And, this truly changes nothing. That NM you camp where you have no trouble with Gil sellers or is just a 50k drop where you farm, watch out they aren't just going to quit because 4 NM are changed. They're going to move to different NM and ruin the price on those.

Exciting? I think not.

I agree about the last part of your post, but SE never said it would be "Easier" to obtain the items, only obtained in a different way. price probably wont change as much as some think it will, but gilsellers will move elsewhere coz most likely it'll be BCNM or KSNM dropped, and they never do that. i think everyone should have a chance at uber gear like PCC and Emp Pin, i just feel sorry for all the ppl like me who been on for more than a year, and had to do it the hard way.....

Actually, they did say that they will gain the mark of EX or EX/Rare... Which will cause the price of the ones that can be sold to sky-rocket. Why? Because ppl are lazy and don't want to get their own... or because the items are too difficult to obtain... so buying it is the only option. There will now be a limited pool of the non-EX models, and they will become a precious commedity. The EX ones will be great for people who can obtain them, and will only be obtained by people who need them... making them atleast alittle easier to get. Think about it.
If you have a pair of leaping boots now that are not EX, and you can get a pair that are, but only if you get rid of your non-ex version, what would you do? Sell it for as much as you can get I imagine... or move it to a mule and wait for better prices.. or sell it before the price falls out... Either way the word sell appears in the sentence.

However, there is a not-so-subtle flaw with making the leaping boots Rare/Ex... There will now be alot of people making winged boots so they can keep farming the leaping boots... So, on that note... SE overlooked one very painful technicallity (unless the EX versions can not be crafted...)

EX or Rare/EX items can be used as components in crafting - dissolving a Tahrongi Cactus into a Distilled Water using a Water Crystal is one example of such.

I don't think there's going to be a problem, since we're not even sure yet if the EX or Rare/EX items dropped by Leaping Lizzie will be able to be substituted for the original Leaping Boots in the recipe for crafting Winged Boots; I'm guessing that it won't be the case, since they'll probably have different names. However, even if they are interchangable, since you can't trade EX or Rare/EX items to another player, you'd have to have substantial skill in Leathercraft (the cap on the recipe is 89) to craft the boots yourself.
