Take note that the times listed are PDT (Pacific Daylight Time), not Japanese time. So the times there are for American players on the west coast. East coast players push the time forward 3 hours (so it'll be done at 3AM on the 19th).

I don't know if this is new news or old hat, but I'll try to log in periodically during the update process and usually I can start downloading before the update's over, instead lf all at once. Has anyone else ever tried that? They apparently break it up into sections.
Can I get some closure?

All I have to say is anyone who complains about this update is CRAZY!!! Just read about it before you post because your getting ALOT of cool stuff with it! And just a little fact for anyone who coplains about the time the download takes and the fact that you still pay for the service.... The time the server will be down will cost you a HUGE 28.6 CENTS.. IF that is to much for you to shell out then you probably can't afford to be playing this game anyways... So suck it up and get ready for some aweome additions!
Update

Well, 16 hours for an update? Wow, whatever will I do that day :P But I for one am looking forward to the new changes they are making. And for the person who said to log out near an NM, uhmm.. how do you know that the NM will pop there when you log back in? Part of the update is moving NM locations :D
Not Wrong...

*Sigh*

They're QUITE real, FFXIXangel... we just don't have access to them. Re-read what he posted: type "/recast "Utsusemi: San"" to see that the recast timer sets them as --:--. As opposed to causing an error.

I don't know if we'll ever GET access to them... we'll just have to wait and see.
Wrong

Flare II and Utsusemi San arent real, and wont be coming to characters it was just a hoax

Did you check the Auto-Translator? I believe that if the Auto-Translator has them, then they must be real... or only mobs have them... either way they have to exist. Except for Flare II, I haven't seen that yet. I have seen Utsusemi: San, Aspir II, and Holy II.

Apparently people have programs on the PC version that allows them to hack the auto-translate function.

Think about it-if they were going to add them, it wouldn't be in the auto-translate yet because they don't exist yet.
Also, try to find it in auto-translate. I can guarantee you won't be able to, unless of course you see their auto-translate which can apparently glitch yours while in that zone.
RE: Wrong
# Jul 16 2005 at 4:48 AM Rating: Decent
As a matter of fact...
The game includes a large number of thing that are in the auto-translator that are not available to players but are available to monsters. There are a ton of items/spells already built into the game that have not been "released" to the player public yet...when designing an item/spell for a game you don't just make them up on the fly and realease them as that leads to imbalance. The game programmers will add the item with an availablity above what players can reach so that they can privately test it's impact on the game. Later on...when an update comes out...the programmers will decide whether or not to add that item/spell and what level it should be available at and adjust the code accordingly. Thus, things like Utsusemi-San and Flare II might come up in the autotranslator as a hint that they may POSSIBLY be available soon.
did I read it wrong....??

On the Japanese version of the PlayOnline site, the update news includes some mention of [translated]: Transfer of facilities and reinforcement of server equipment.

So the downtime could also include the moving of servers, etc. which could account for why the update is 16 hours long.

Heh... I was expecting some hefty maintenance to be honest. Have you seen half of the things they're adding to the game with this update?

Your own npc buddy that you can call along to help you level and what not... I would imagine that will take some time feed into vanadiel as it is. Then there's the usual million odd quests, new items... etc etc experience points aquisition changes, yadda yadda yadda...

So to be honest I'm happy to see this update finally come around, I'm glad Square Enix are going out of their way to bring us new and fresh content as often as possible. I can't wait to see the introduction of spells like "Utsusemi: San" and "Flare II". Don't call me loko try it yourself /recast "Utsusemi: San" /recast "Flare II"

Consider it a gift. This update is like an Expansion Pack, but it's too little to sell. So this update is your gift from Square Enix. More spells.. bundling of Ninjutsu, and there's even going to be some cool events like Chocobo races and Beastmen hats... Eee! I'm excited, don't see why you shouldn't be.

Um, the one last night was to lighten the load of this one. It was part 1, so to speak. This lightens the load on SE's servers and makes our downloads faster and gives us less problems with not being able to connect to the download server because too many people are connecting at once.

But yeah, how stupid of SE for doing that. *rolls eyes*

It just proves that people rely on this site too much.
