Another point is that the women/minorities that came out proGG on Twitter were accused of being white straight men posting for the lulz, by antiGG people. Hence the need to make the video, saying "Hey, look, I really am a woman / minority, and I am proGG, and you antiGG people don't speak the message that represents me, and you can't use me as a defense of antiGG"

There was also the Vivian James thing. In a nutshell, some "games designed by women" outfit had a money drive with a reward of designing a character if you donated the most money. 4Chan collectively donated the most and designed what they claimed to be a pro-female character, Vivian James. The "Anti-Gamergate" folk immediately dismissed her as "These losers needed to make up a pretend woman to speak for them and say that they're not all misogynists".

The point of a video with women and minorities is to show that, yes, there really are people out there who side with the Gamergate movement and aren't loser white dudes.

I can see that this scheme could come off as patronizing.

In fact, gamergaters, have come off as very patronizing. Sorry dudes. 'We dont want you beating on us, but we also don't want you to protect us'.

It's a fine line to walk.

Both sides should learn from these guys about how to troll effectively for a cause.

Actually, that clarified a lot. The way you phrased it, I misinterpreted what you meant exactly. Others have answered more or less what I would want to respond with, but I would like to clarify one point. It wasn't just some women/minorities claiming to speak for all women or all minorities. It was also a number of white guys, which I've heard a number of NYS folks say was extremely irritating. If you really want me to find examples to back that up, I'm sure I can, but it would be a pain in the ***. So, for now, I'll just say Geordie Tait and leave it there.

In other white guy news, Jack Thompson is apparently anti-Anita, from what I've heard. I overslept and haven't had a chance to even check Twitter beyond checking my notifications, so I don't know the full story. I doubt he's pro-GG and is likely just anti-Anita, but I can't say for certain until I've had a chance to look at it. Either way, it's kinda weird since the writer/producer or whatever of her vids often says things that really sound like Jack Thompson.

Edit: Ah. Okay. He said that she's not hardcore enough for him or something. Or maybe that wasn't it. Maybe they're talking about this video teaser for The Sarkeesian Effect. Disclaimer: I haven't watched it yet.

Edit: Watched vid and looked at some tweets. Overall, video's sentiment seems to be that Anita is worse than Jack. GG's reaction seems to mirror what I'd expect from the Left if Rush Limbaugh were to say the Tea Party was nuts.

Huh. One of the people who had the SWAT called on them was the creator of the GG Harassment Patrol and the less well known GG Hug Patrol(yeah, I don't really know what that is). Here's the video where I learned that. Click it if you want, but it really won't tell you much more than that. And I can't tell if the video creator's accent is fake or not.

I don't follow. Pretty much everyone on the "anti" side says that Gamergate is a shallow pretext for misogyny among out-of-touch men who can't stand the idea of someone touching their video games. Is there a "moderate" anti-GG view that doesn't express that thought?
