WoW in the WSVG

The World Series of Video Games has announced the four titles that contenders will be able to compete in this year, including Quake 4, Guitar Hero 2, Final Fight Round 3...and World of Warcraft.

Perhaps the biggest announcement is the first PC title, Blizzard's World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. This is the first time it has really been used in an eSports tournament, but with over 8.5 million players worldwide, there isn't much doubt that it is a valuable resource that has yet to be tapped. Of course, to play the game they will be using the new PvP (Player vs. Player) Arena system, which allows players to go head to head in a battle for survival. In a twist from the popular 5v5 format that is currently being used, however, WSVG will be opting for a 3v3 competition instead. In order to make sure the platform will be successful, the league has also been working closely with Blizzard in order to make sure the setup will be perfect.

More details can also be found at the World Series of Video Games homepage, although little has been revealed so far about the format of the tournament. Consisting of five major events, the first will be in China at the beginning of May, and the first of the three U.S. majors will take place in Louisville on June 21-24.
