EverQuest II: Altar of Malice Launch Guides

The latest expansion has launched for all members - here's our guides!

Altar of Malice will be available for purchase by All Access members on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. With the launch of the expansion, Chains of Eternity should unlock for any free player account. If you don't own it yet, the Tears of Veeshan expansion will be included with your purchase of Altar of Malice, but Age of Discovery will remain as broken-up features sold separately in the Marketplace. Free members will be able to purchase AoM on November 25, 2014.

UPDATE: As confirmed by Linda "Brasse" Carlson, while the Tears of Veeshan expansion is included in your purchase of Altar of Malice, the Channeler class is not, despite being a launch feature of ToV. It will now be sold separately in the Marketplace for 2500SC if you did not own ToV prior to today.

Pricing for the expansion is as follows:

Standard Edition: $39.99 includes one bonus item.

  • "Altar of Malice on Canvas" house item painting

Collector's Edition: $89.99 and includes (in addition to the Standard Edition item) six additional bonus goodies.

  • Elite Mercenary: Battle-Mystic (Warrior-Shaman)
  • Striped Savage Pterodon Mount (has stats)
  • Mage Tower Mirage (house item)
  • Prehistoric House Pet
  • Gems of Armor Advancement x3
  • Eighty Days of Spell Research

The website is now up for All Access members to purchase the expansion. Feldon of EQ2Wire has some useful tips:

  • If you Free-to-Play, or wish to purchase on the Steam platform, then you will be able to purchase the expansion on November 25, 2014.
  • If you attended SOE Live, then you can verify that you have been granted the standard edition of Altar of Malice by visiting this hidden EQ2 Entitlements page and looking for "Entitlement: Altar of Malice".
  • Some users are receiving the message "You are not eligible to purchase this product. Please check available products below." If you did not attend SOE Live and you receive this message, try a different web browser like (shudder) Internet Explorer.
  • If you attended SOE Live and wish to upgrade to the Collector's Edition, then DO NOT BUY THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION!!! Instead click on the "Standard Edition ($39.99)" button and you will be presented with a screen offering to sell you the upgrade for $50. [Editor's Note: The Standard Edition line has now replaced with an "Altar of Malice Upgrade" choice for some people. Whatever you choose, just make sure it's not the $90 one if you're upgrading!]

Great, the game is down half a day on a holiday when most people are off work.
