PlaySpan Hacked - Account Data Compromised

Whoops.

Yes, I do take every opportunity to reference the 90s film Hackers, why do you ask?

Players of various games would understandably be concerned as hackers have breached and compromised hundreds of thousands of PlaySpan Marketplace user info. Thankfully, even though account info is leaked, they have stated no credit card information of any kind had been accessed.

A spokesperson talked to Develop Online about the event;

When PlaySpan detected the breach, we immediately shut down the hacker’s access to our systems and took steps to protect our customers’ PlaySpan accounts. We then commenced a comprehensive forensic analysis and are working with law enforcement to investigate the crime. As a precaution, we have already locked all user accounts and closed the PlaySpan Marketplace site.

The website is still currently offline for the aforementioned maitinence, and they have issued widespread automatic password reset.

There was misinformation floating earlier about the hackers gaining access to EVE Online, Guild Wars, Dungeons and Dragons: Online and Runescape, but they did not gain access to them - Turbine has insisted they do not have account connection with PlaySpan.

Wargaming has given the following advice concerning World of Tanks:

"We were informed by our partners that Playspan Marketplace suffered a security breach. Only a part of the usernames and encrypted passwords were stolen from the database. Our partners informed us that the Playspan Marketplace is a separate service from the VISA Playspan payment service that is available on our World of Tanks website. If you were a registered Playspan Marketplace user, it is possible your information has been compromised, although your financial information has not been compromised.

The Wargaming payment service has not been compromised in any way.

If your Playspan Marketplace account email is different from your World of Tanks email, then you do not need to change your game account information, as our internal game data was not compromised.

If you are a registered PlaySpan Marketplace user, Playspan Marketplace recommends you change your marketplace account password.

If you are a registered PlaySpan Marketplace user, and you used the same email and password for your World of Tanks account, we suggest you change your World of Tanks password."

We'd like to clarify this situation. The Wargaming payment services have not been compromised in any way. Playspan Marketplace (which is a service we don't utilize) emails and encrypted passwords were compromised.
