Congratulations Monika T'Sarn for Unlocking the Force Sensitive Slot!

Monika T'Sarn of the PA Combine on the Intrepid Server unlocked her FS today. Akinom T'Sarn (her FS character) is the first player confirmed JEDI INITIATE in all of Star Wars Galaxies. I had the pleasure of seeing her the day of the announcement an even greater pleasure to duel her. So a HUGE congratulation to her on this most sought after accomplishment. Now onto the details I am sure you all are dying to know. Please realize Akinom was being literally pounded by questions so I kept it brief as possible.... What she did with her original character to unlock her Force Sensitive slot is as follows in her own words: Here's what I did, from start to the end. Human female artisan, starting in Bestine. Master Medic Master Creature handler Pistoleer up to 2444 Dropped Creature handler, pistoleer Master Marksman Commando 0440 Doctor 4430 Got my first three holos from dark troopers in the naboo faction dungeon, 2 red 1 blue First holo told me to master ranger. Dropped all medic+doctor, got master scout, master ranger. Second holo told me master doctor. Dropped all scout, got master doctor. Third holo told me master weapon smith. Did that. Fourth holo was silent. After the fourth holo I mastered artisan and brawler. Other stuff: Finished the rebel theme park, did some other rebel-related quests. Did the Jedi-quests on dantoine ( or dathomir, not sure, from the Jedi in the cave with the dark Jedi outside ?) Not much else in quests though. Got the two monthly badges on the rebel side, no others. Placed a house and declared residence, yesterday. Was rebel colonel, the highest rank, for a long time. The slot opening message came at the first mob she killed today on dathomir, a female picket longhorn. ------------------------- Monika T'Sarn, Combine www.the-combine.net Now in some Rapid fire follow up questions by the pistoleer correspondent Philosopher1976 and others the following information was gathered: Additional information on what her main character has done: She finished mastering her last profession 1 week ago. She says that she has visited every town on every planet. She was never married. She never intentionally visited a static POI, she says. She killed the piket maybe 10 minutes after she logged in. Before killing the piket she buffed herself and took a shuttle. She placed and declared her first residence yesterday, her new Jedi character has access to the house. She never sold goods from a vendor. She says that the one type of mob/NPC that she never intentionally killed was Jawas. As far as faction perks go, she has bought some armor, several NPCs, no buildings. She has visited a battlefield, but not often. The battlefield was PvE. She did none of the Hermit quests. She never used the matchmaking feature, and her friends list was between 20-30 people. She did not do the Endor Maurauder quest ... she only did Rebel-related quests, the theme park, plus some quests on Tattoine and Corellia. She never looted any force crystals or force-related items, aside from this petrified egg that she looted. Information on her New Jedi: She started with a mineral survey kit, a chemical survey kit, brawler newbie clothing, and a generic crafting tool. She had to make a lightsaber crafting tool, then make a crystal, then make a saber. She says that making the second saber is buggy and does not accept her newbie saber as an ingredient. Here are the stats on her lightsaber, according to her: Training, Light Sabre AP rating Medium, Damage type Kinetic, 94-189 damage 1.4 speed and HAM cost of 5/5/5 Her Jedi has the same HAM as the rest of us. She is not TEFed unless she USES A SPECIAL, so she can walk around town freely otherwise. She was dueling people and could not be attacked because she was just using the default auto attack. Based on a quick scan of the combat spam she was hitting between 45-60 PVP per hit with the default attack, which corresponds with the current equation we already know (1.5 damage modifier, divided by 4 for PvP). There are two different types of XP on the skill tree ... lightsaber XP and Jedi XP. She gets the lightsaber XP from killing things with the saber (obviously). She said that the "Jedi XP" works like Combat XP does. I asked her how she trained her first skill ... she said that there is a trainer (not a Holocron) that she gets the skill from. The trainer is in Wayfar. The Jedi trainer is disguised as an artisan trainer. She can group and fight with other players, sharing the XP with them. She can also be healed by non-Jedi.

Just Play KOTOR instead

All I got to say is that all of you need to get an X-BOX and a copy of KOTOR. Cause if all you want to do is become a jedi, then play a game where the whole point is to become a jedi. It only takes about 8 or so hours to become force sensitive. It's not online but atleast you actually get to play as jedi. The worst part about Galaxies is if you actually become a jedi, everyone is just going to try and kill you because they're jealous that you achieved something they could not.
*sigh*

it's a game, you play it. Why should they make it so it's easy to do? Companys make games that require hours upon hours of play. Well this does too. This game let's you play with other people, lots not just 8-20.

She did alot of hard *** work and earned her ****. Everyone just wants gimmies from games. "well I wanna be this and that's it" whoopie for you, good luck do the time and earn it. These games (typically) come with a storyline and lore yadda yadda. I'm not one to follow lore typically but they go to the trouble to make it. Plus you should of figured it wouldn't be a clone of hte movies.

The movie was just that a movie. This is a game and I'm sure they have all sorts of stuff they want to do. Games get expansions in the end it's about them making $$. Why would they code in all the features and all the ideas. When they can sell them to you alittle at a time.

Saw someone mention about how no one ever ran out killed some random thing and came back. You know why? It would be a pointless scene in a movie. Waste of $$. Plus they aren't trying to keep you amused for 2 hours they want the game to go on for years etc etc. 6 months out of that is not a long time.

Why should it be easy? Just because your sorry *** can only play 3 times a week? Yes people have real lives, kids, jobs, etc etc. Well people make time. Or kids play and have summers off and weekends off and little responseability. Hence they can play hours on end. Staying up all night because they enjoy it and it's fun for them.

Hell I know a guy it's his job to play all these games. A company pays him 60k a year to sit at home on his *** and play MMOs for hours on end. So that when a company makes a new one they go to this company and say what do you think are the pluses and minuses of games out there right now. (anyone wanna start one with me? rofl I could use the money.)

anyways I'm done.
You never learn...

This is too funny. I was really interested in this game before it was released but decided to wait for the "beta-testers" as I call them (people who bought the game the first month) to review it first. And I was really anxious for SOE to redeem itself after EQ, but hey, what do they care? They've already got lots of other people's money. And until people wise up and show that they won't pay (and pay on a monthly basis!) for utter crap, games like this will continue to be made.
-KLB out.
I'm all for hard work... kinda...

...But I think if it takes 6 months for two people to become jedis, and those two people have craploads of bountys on their heads...

Its sorta silly! I mean, if there was no monthly fee, I can understand 6 months of work, to an extent.

But when you PAY and its *THAT* slow with all those bugs...

Its kinda like all the work and none of the reward.

I realize this is a game, and I do think it's ridiculous the amount of work required to become a Jedi - heck, I haven't played yet, but just looking at what this girl had to do I can tell it's too much. The one point I can make(And don't get me wrong, I still think spending 6 months to be a Jedi is too long) is that in the Star Wars Universe, maybe one in every 100 million people - if that - is force sensitive. The fact that the game *seems* to let you "earn" force sensitivity may not be as bad as it seems. If every time you created a new character there was a possibility that they were force sensitive, that probability would be ridiculously small. I guess they have to cap the game somehow.
let the ship sink.

After all this time, a jedi magically surfaces. Whoooo. Maybe lucasarts noticed how people are fed up with the horrible game. We pay a monthly fee for server stability, but are the servers stable? Nah. And no, it's not my connection, this game lags, and it has bugs. Did I mention how plain the graphics are, and how uninteresting the gameplay is? If being a jedi is all you have to play this game for, make your character commit suicide. As for the community aspect, a game shoulden't have to rely on its players to make it interesting. Yes, a community setting is good, but there should be enough game features to spur community play, and be there for the loners. Look, I'm tired of wasting my money every month. I'm done with putting up with it. After all, a game shouldent be something you feel you have to "put up with."

Issues that really need to be addressed by Sony
# Nov 10 2003 at 11:47 PM Rating: Default
I think the lag, the roll backs, the chat system and all the other bugs should have been fixed before added anything new to the game....

And the amount of time it takes to get in the game is absolutly the worst....

Come on Sony fix it or expect people to start leaving... I for one have been debating if I want to renew my suscribtion for another month or not...

As far as the Jedi... I dont think it is intended to nor do I think it should be easy to master but the rarity of the holocom drops is bad especialy since everyone can kill everyones missions.... What kind of crap is that????

I can roll a mission and by the time I run to it the forces have all been killed.... that is wrong...

anyway jmo made me feel better to vent so I will go see what other games or coming out until some of these issues are addressed.....

I don't think it is alot to ask to be able to say hi to someone in a group or your guild or a friend in a tell... If u cant fix it change it... It is the worst chat system I have seen in a rp game.... How many of u mt because someone slipped a tell in between another tell u were sending ??

Quitting SWG....
# Nov 10 2003 at 10:04 PM Rating: Default
Weeeelll, I have to say, that despite how amazingly cool SWG seemed at the very beginning, I have VERY quickly grown tired of it. And this, this whole Jedi thing, is sort of the last straw. so, I believe it be time for me to quit. My reasons:

1. Boring. Boring. And more boring. If I have to go blow up one more bat-filled pile of rocks I think I might just swallow my own head. And Im displeased to report that after 200 or so such fights against lairs (among other things) Im nowhere NEAR even mastering ONE of the tiers of the marksman profession...

2. Everything takes SO FREAKIN LONG!!!! It takes forever to run out to the various missions you have to do. And the fact that all the missions are pretty much the same (blow up a lair full of evil something-or-others) doesnt help at all...

3. Really bad world design. Im sorry, but I have to say that. I have yet to see a single truly interesting area in this game. The cities are about as good as it gets. Most of the land is the same land again and again and again and again... It's both expansive and pointless at the same time.

4. Doesnt really feel like star wars to me. I mean, how many times in the movies did Han Solo run out into the middle of the desert to shoot a bunch of oversized frogs for no real reason? And yet in the game, you do it again... and again... and again... and again... and aagin...

5. Battles. The battle system is pretty nicely done... the potential to be very strategic and engaging... but it just doesnt live up to it's potential. They just dont make very good use of it. And, ok, so I havent seen any of the advanced professions for myself... but the laws of good game design say it should be engaging and strategic from the very beginning, and never let up...

6. Boring. Or did I already say that?

7. Ugly dancing fat Wookies. 'Nuff said.

8. Which brings up point 8. You have to go sit and watch other characters dance animations just to heal mind wounds? And half the time you go into a med center for physical wounds (or half the time I do anyway) there's no doctors in there to heal you... not that I can blame them.. I can't think of a game profession that would require more patience than that one...

And I could go on. But I still say, this jedi thing is the last straw. And for this reason: Looking at what that person did, it looks like she went through EVERY FREAKING PROFESSION (or most at least) entirely. Mastered them all. What kind of life can this person be leading, if she has time to do this? In other words, the game designers expect you to sit in front of your machine day and
night, for months, just to use a different profession. Gee wiz... what fun. As someone who has a job and a life, I cannot do that. Nor would I want to. And so, Im going to do something that I dont often do with this type of game... quit. And that is just too bad... I had such high hopes for this game... But, I guess the universal rule of game design remains the same, as always: Movies almost always translate into really crappy games.

FFXI is the suck...
# Nov 10 2003 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
People who say its the best MMO out right now are either on crack, dont like graphics, or just plain stupid. I own almost every FF 1-10 american series... and some of the japenese versions, and I have been playing MMO games for 5+ years beginning with UO... Played UO, EQ, DAOC, PE, WW2O, AO, AC, AC2, PS, EVE, and im sure a few others, beta'd most of them, except UO actually I think I beta'd all of them. FFXI is IMHO the worst MMO because of only one reason... its behind its time, I know it was a japenese release three years back but I would have thought the graphics would be up to par, the crafting system is absolute crap... okay enough of my dumbass ranting later guys.
Months?!?

I admit there should be more to do in the game, but I also played EQ for a month and got tired of it because the subject just wasn't my style. I really enjoy playing in the SW universe and seeing as people waited for 2-3 expansions for EQ to get planes travel etc...I can only think that SWG will get more of the cool stuff in the near future. Guess you can either play it or try to make any sense of those FF story lines.

I think the game is getting kind of pointless the only reason most people join is to become a Jedi, only to find out that they never will.

Its true, this is a big lame attempt at drawing more ppl into the game, iv been playing this game almost since it came out and im getting sick of not being able to just jump in as a jedi padawan and at least try it out, if its so damn hard hard to be a jedi why cant we at least have the option of tryin it?

Personally if things dont get better im just going to quit, GM's are randomly picking a couple jedi and the rest of us who have done many missons and have got nothing for it are getting downright angry. I hope someone at SOE or whoever is doing this game picks up the pace, or otherwise im outta this.
