ZAM Searches for Rare Items in Cataclysm

Staff Writer Paul "LockeColeMA" Cleveland reveals some of the hard to find pets, weapons and mounts in the latest World of Warcraft expansion.

Equipment

Next we come to equipment. Remember in the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, when rare enemies dropped “random blue” of the “random enchantment” items, along with some gold and cloth? In Cataclysm this has changed a bit. Rares above level 80 now give a ton of experience, a hefty amount of gold and custom items. Many good ilevel 346 items come from rare spawns. If you find something you want at the Auction House and it looks expensive, check its source—it might be easier to attempt to find the rare that drops the item instead of just paying for it.

The next items on my list are fun ones just for rogues. Junkboxes have been a staple of pickpocketing for years, and usually they contained useless snuff, or some poisons, or some coins. But once in a while a rogue finds real treasure, and that hasn't changed in the most recent expansion. Feast your eyes on the Krol Decapitator, an ilevel 359 sword found extremely rarely in flame-scarred junkboxes. The third iteration of a Krol Blade, the chances of finding this item are likely 1/1000 or less. Considering junkboxes are found only once in a while off enemies, your chances of seeing this sword are close to zero. But if you're dedicated enough, why not? You might even end up finding a Spinerender or a Twilight Blade (see below) in there as well!

Minor factual error about archaeology.

It is not necessary to create every common artifact before getting a repeat. In fact it's quite common to create the same artifact a bunch of times before you complete the full list.

For my part, I was lucky enough for the Canopic Jar to be the second Tol'vir artifact I worked on, and it contained the recipe (which I crafted a month or so later). My fourth artifact from them was also a Canopic Jar (which just contained trash) and I am far from completing the full list for Tol'vir.

Otherwise cool article. I wasn't completely sure about how the Phosphorescent Stone Drake worked and it does kinda sound like Time-Lost Proto Drake v2.0 (so, for that matter, does the gray camel)
