Blizzard Launches New Account Recovery Page

New process should make reporting a comprised account a bit easier.

It could happen to you. It could happen to your guildmates. Everyone has heard the horror stories about a WoW account being compromised. Your password doesn't work. Your gold is gone. Your items have vanished. What do you do? Well, now you head straight to Blizzard's new Account Recovery page from a secure computer and hopefully solve the problem without the need to call the Billing and Account Services department!

So how does it work? If your account has been hacked, head over to the Account Recovery page, answer some questions only you should know the answer to, and Blizzard with automatically reset your password via e-mail and submit a ticket to start an investigation. Hopefully, this will drastically speed up the process of restoring your account to its former glory.

So, what are your thoughts on this new system? Also, do you have an authenticator to protect your account?

I was hacked when patch 3.2 came out. When I updated my addons from curse.com about a day later I was hacked. Oddly enough my friend, who updated his add-ons at the same time, also was hacked (and we didn't share info or pc's). I remember alot of people got hacked around that time. I could not find anything on my PC nor could he on his. Ran several different programs to check for key loggers, Trojan, etc. Just to be safe after getting everything back we both did a complete format and reinstall of everything.

I now have an Authenticator. I did get everything back as did he. In fact we both ended up with several stacks of tradeskill items (ore, herbs, eternals, etc).

I had my account hijacked rather than hacked. I took my to the Apple store for repair and stupid me I had the same PW for my computer as for my WoW account. Now I have a different PW for everything all with upper and lower case and numbers.

Blizzard did give everything back for all my characters as well as everything that was taken from the guild bank. The guild bank log showed who it was that loot it but I never found out if anything happened to them.
Got Authenticator after we were hacked

One of our accounts was hacked 2 weeks ago. Blizzard was great about getting all of our stuff back to us.

They didn't give us our guild back, but they did give us enough gold to buy the bank tabs we had previously purchased. Just had to go through the hassle of getting the signatures again.

We don't share our password, have never paid US dollars for WOW gold or paid for a leveling service. Not sure how it was hacked, but we ordered authenticators after it happened.

It took a few days to get it all straightened out, but it was done to our satisfaction in the end and they were very nice about it.

What a pain though, get an authenticator if you don't already have one. Worth the $6.50 to avoid the hassle.

Hi,
First post and coincidece or not i got hacked on saturday and had to go through the nwe process. I had money and items taken. Thanks to blizzard i got it all back within about 3 hours after i lodged my complaint. Very fast way of doing things in my opinion and can't thank blizzard enough. I had over 40k across a few characters.
So thankyou you Blizzard for helping and i hope you can catch these scums of society.
As for me i getting an authenticator soon.
as for everyone else i will let you know now that it was the best response from blizzard and this service is second to none.
So be patient and polite and do everything they say. They are trying there best and this way is brilliant.

Regards

Someone *tried* to hack me once.

One day, I went to log on, and it said my account had been suspended.

I called billing, and it turns out that my account had been auto-locked due to numerous failed login attempts.

I changed my BNET email and password, and never had a problem with it again.

I'll be willing to bet that the authenticator had something to do with that. What were they doing, just entering random numbers praying to get luck? lol.
Have an authenticator

I have an authenticator and have never been hacked, I use a lot of different addons, curse updater, etc. Coincidence?

Although I'm sure it will be nice for those that somehow manage to get hacked, especially those that it has happened to multiple times.
