I liked it the first week, but for me it didn't have the staying power some games do. It is too much like "a certain game" in too many aspects, I like that they've taken storyline to a new level in mmo-, but aside from that not much entices me. Some things are tweaked/improved on from other games and some things are plain worse, but in the end for me it is just of the same old same old.
I have a feeling it will keep doing really well in a forseeable future though because most people think it is enough of a change to not be bored. Until something like Blizzards next mmo- comes along I don't see SWTOR with all its SW and Bioware fans who will never leave no matter what, on top of all the people who don't mind playing w/e is popular, having any trouble toping the charts.
Personally I just hope Blizzard reinvents the genre somewhat because for me its become a bit too stale and I think SWTOR's success proves it considering how little new there actually is there compared to the great reviews it has gotten. Now don't get me wrong I think it is a good solid game, but to be honest I'd like a leap in innovation not mini-babysteps.
What frustrates me is that with this being a success developers idea of it being okay to not really do anything new is cemented. From the communitys side making SWTOR a success is like saying it is okay to make WoW all over again as long as it has a few differences. I mean, I like WoW, but it has been 9 years... please give me something new, not WoW 2.0 in space.
Again though, this is my opinion, a lot of people seem content with what SWTOR offers, I just simply wish people weren't because that way maybe we would somewhat force developers into evolving a lot more than they are doing atm.
SWTOR sales drop 30 spots on the UK charts
It appears as if retail sales are starting to drop for one of the largest MMO's to date. According to Chart-Track Star Wars: The Old Republic has seen a 28 position drop for the week ending on December 31. While these numbers seem pretty scary for one of the most expensive games ever made, it's important to consider that these are retail sales numbers and they do not include numbers for those who purchased digitally on EA's Origin service.
The Old Republic has quickly reached one million registered users and is still on the tongues of MMO fans everywhere, but as the game grows up, will it see the same fate as so many other MMOs before it?
