Diablo 3 System Changes

Blizzard is well known for holding off a game's release until they feel it's ready for market, and Diablo 3 is no exception. Based on recent feeback both internally and from the beta, Diablo 3 is in for some pretty hefty changes including:

  • Scrolls of Identification no longer being in the game.
  • Moving the fifth quick slot bottom, which is becoming a dedicated potion button.
  • Removing the Mystic artisan.
  • Removing the Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube.
  • Allowing the Blacksmith artisan to salvage items.
  • Common (white) items no longer being salvageable.
  • Changing core character attributes to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Vitallity.
  • Displaying character stats directly on the inventory UI.

Even after all these changes they still claim there is a lot of work left to be done as they are constantly tuning and making balance changes. While it could still be some time before we see it's release, you can bet money on the fact that Diablo 3 is going to be the best game it can be once it launches.

Diablo III has been approved in Korea! We reported about a week and a half back that Diablo III was running into a wall that was the South Korean Game Rating Board (GRB) - especially ont he topic of D3's Real Money Auction House. Well, you can always trust Blizzard to find a way through, although this time their solution might not have been as elegant as they'd hoped.

The Korean Times are reporting that Blizzard, in their third submission to the South Korean Game Rating Board, had stripped out any cash-trading features in the game. Of course, the GRB was wise to Blizzard's crafty omissions, and they fired a stern warning to the developer, noting that "[t]he feature involving for-cash trades between users was not included in the presentation to the rating committee, and thereit was not subjected to scrutiny. . . If 'item trade for cash' is added to the current version in service changes, it would... open up re-rating examinations."

So I guess a world premiere is still very viable for Blizzard, but as to whether they want to completely scrap their RMT auction house in Korea remains to be seen.

Back in October 2011, it was already confirmed that Blizzard wanted Diablo III to hit consoles, but most were uncertain if this was a pipe dream or an actual goal. Just this morning, however, Blizzard Community Manager Bashiok just gave a little more hope for console fanboys on Twitter.

In response to a tweet asking: "Can you confirm or Deny Diablo 3 coming to consoles?" Bashiok responded, "Yup. Josh Mosquiera is lead designer for the Diablo console project." Of course, most are interpreting this to be an absolute confirmation that D3 will be hitting consoles as an equal to its PC brother, but no other details have been confirmed thus far. Just know that it's coming, and that there is someone working on it.

In hindsight, that's pretty much what we've known all along.

Happy 15th Birthday, Diablo III! In celebration of their milestone anniversary, Blizzard has launched a brand new site to commemorate the occasion, featuring in-depth interviews, an extended Diablo retrospective, and an (admittedly) sparse timeline of three games.

That being said, according to BlizzPlanet, Chris Metzen has confirmed that "We [Blizzard] are almost done with Diablo III." Of course, that transition point between being done and getting to launch is a bit of a convoluted process; one that's being made even more mucky given the approval problems Diablo III is having with the South Korean Games Ratings Board.

Regardless, why not check out the new 15th Anniversary website for some Diablo III goodies?

Some news today courtesy of a tip-off over at IncGamers. According to the Korea Times, Blizzard is running into some difficulties getting Diablo III approved for South Korea, as the South Korean Game Rating Board isn't sure what to make of Diablo III's controversial Real Money Auction House.

The most recent submission to be rejected was made on December 22nd, which omitted the "cashing out" feature of the auction house (where players could convert in-game money into real money). Currently given Blizzard's commitment to a global release of Diablo III, this could mean that gamers around the world will have to wait for South Korea's approval before we see this highly anticipated RPG.
