I was going to post this like twenty minutes ago but I've been laughing my balls off at it. There's a Teen Titans live action show in the works, and here's Starfire. So far the going theory is that it's her "civilian" clothes, but no one wants to answer why they think her civilian job is being a hooker. I swear, I'm in tears laughing at DC's version of The Inhumans.

Clearly in this Universe, the first Human she met and kissed to learn our language was Butters
I finished reading listening to American Gods yesterday so now I'm ready to tackle to Starz series and bitch about how they ruined everything.
It's actually surprisingly accurate. They've had to expand on some things to stretch the story to fill a series, and you only get the first third of the book in the first season. The series has a lot more of Shadow's wife than the book does. Same for the Leprechaun fellow. They only bit that really doesn't work is an episode that is complete filler that wasn't in the book at all. You'll recognize it when you see it.
Do yourself a favor, don't bother reading (listening) to Anansi Boys. The couple of bits in the series with Anansi will make a little more sense since you'll be familiar with the character, but it's not worth it. The story in that one is just so boring, I had to force myself to finish it.

This isn't even the production where Nick Cage is playing Superman...
Finally caught up on Legends... and... wow. Rory: ARE WE MAKING A BABY!
And of course that Baby eventually turns out to be a giant ***-kicking Beebo.
Afterward: Rory: Worst. Orgy. Ever.
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay came out recently. And it was good. Up there with Flashpoint Paradox. And much better than the last few DC films to be released (Gotham by Gaslight, Vixen, Harley Quinn). DC Universe animated films tend to be better than the Marvel ones, but there are also some lower quality ones out there. This one I'd say definitely watch.
Finally saw Ready Player One. Overall it was a decent movie, but... I really thought the first key puzzle would fit well with the movie. Maybe not the actual Joust game challenge at the end, but a Zelda-esque mini dungeon crawl on a hidden door that poor old Parzival stumbled upon would have work. Well, maybe not so easily since they had removed the part about him being stuck in an online school with no money.
Instead they make it a simple race. And I'm to believe that in 5 years no one drove backward just because? I drove backward on game races all the time when I was screwing around. In the book, it was a bit more believable that the first puzzle stayed hidden for so long. No one even knew where to find it. Yet the puzzle existed and was attempted for years in the movie with no one driving backward... (and only a few hundred feet)
Parzival helping Artemis "hack" her way out of the box, only to have the box let her out on a 10 minute break with everyone else? That was seemingly pointless.
I didn't like the subtle change to the Aunt. She was abusive and a money grubber herself in the book, I don't recall the boyfriend(s) interacting with Parzival. In the movie they played the weak woman in an abusive relationship and the **** boyfriend angle. Parzival didn't really care that his Aunt died, but did care that the old lady died. And it looked like the old lady survived as she was the first one to stand up to Sorrento in the end.
Needed more giant mechs. Gundam wasn't as fun as Ultraman would have been I think.
The lack of one of the "High Five" sacrificing themselves or being killed by IOI was a bit disappointing. When I saw Daito and Sho(to) still alive and friends from the very beginning I figured Daito wouldn't die, but I still felt it would be worth having a real sacrifice to progress the story.
Overall, enjoyable. Probably more so by people not expecting any specifics. The usual changes from Book to Movie format. I think Movie -> Book would have been a better order to enjoy the formats. Book was different and detailed enough to be almost new if you had seen the movie first, I think. But events in the movie were simplified and sped up a bit that you knew what to expect having read listended to the book beforehand.
Gotham: Not Not-Joker is now Joker. Seems kind of stupid to introduce a twin brother, just to kill off the original and make the twin the Joker. Did the writers just want to find a way to make his face-peeling scars go away?
Recent trailers for for Jurassic World show things like Dinos sneaking into little girls' rooms at night. Are they going to pull a Jurassic Park 3 with this one? Just make all the Dinos run loose in a major city, eating peoples' dogs and scaring kids and their parents who don't believe them when they say there's a Dino in the backyard?
My DVR Box has close to 10 shows recording on Sunday night. Four of them all at 9pm (Obviously it only records up to two things at once, so two of them are ignored...)
Legion: 40 minutes in, and Legion shows Spielberg that characters playing thru a game of Zork on screen can actually work. And it wasn't even a 3D representation of it. Merely a big dark room with a keyboard, and the shows characters typing out their commands then reading the text as it appeared in the black air above them.
Walking Dead finale followed by Fear premiere. But the Fear premiere wasn't really the premiere of Fear. More like "Walking Dead finale side story". The first 57 minutes of Fear didn't have a single Fear character show up. The two shows are now linked at happening at the same time. The cynic in me feels this was merely a ploy to get more people watching Fear. Most of my friends / coworkers dropped Fear half way thru Season 1. And while last season was better (and, better than Walking Dead recent seasons I think) they haven't bothered jumping back in.
I'm going to have to dig through my DVR's scheduling to see what I can cut and what I have to keep recording.
I enjoyed Garret Dillahunt's gunslinger in Fear the Walking Dead. Morgan going from Punisher to Pacifier over and over again is a bit tedious though, since it's almost certain that's exactly what he's going to do in Fear before the season's end. Black Lightning had a solid season, excluding the first quarter of the pilot. And that weird paranoia cricket chicken in Legion creeps me the hell out, though the MUD / Zork scene was pretty well executed, but I liked the pool scene more, where Lenny kept trying to kill him/herself in the background while Shadow King and David were talking.
Suicide Squad 2 seems to have been pushed back on DCEU's schedule, while Birds of Prey, which will also apparently feature Robbie's Harley Quinn, has been moved up and a director in Cathy Yun because "Christina Hodson's script blew the exec's minds". The same execs, mind, that are also responsible for the rest of the DCEU.
Steven Spielberg also seems to be on board to produce, and rumor to maybe even direct, a movie for WB based on an old DC property Black Hawks, which are basically the Howling Commandos. A bunch of World War 2 elite soldiers doing elite things. No word beyond that, but I can't help but be reminded that Spielberg said that these movies were on their way out like Westerns and now he's wading into the pool like everyone else.

Finally watched The Shape of Water. I liked it, good to see Abe getting some action.
Barbara-League of Shadows bits in Gotham is kind of boring. While I think the whole Joker/Not-Joker thing is a bit dumb, I like those characters a lot more than the ones on Bruce and Barbara's parts.
Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 finale will be the last. It got cancelled...
Saw this trailer a couple theater trips ago, and again today when I saw Rampage (ok movie, recommend watching when it comes out on TV though).
Watch Hawkeye play a game of tag with the Wolf Pack.
Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 finale will be the last. It got cancelled...
AND YET ARROW KEEPS GOING. Though Tag does look like a good movie to see. Isn't that the movie Renner broke both his arms in? If so then I'm down to see that.
Westworld came back only as Westworld could. Tons of questions, no answers. Should be another wild ride. Into the Badlands is another time skip, which is tedious, but I'm glad that Bajie survived his cliffhanger that was ruined by promos death. Fear the Walking Dead introduced the seasons baddie ... which is basically just the Saviors from the main series, but lazy.
Hoy is Sunday brutal.
I'm basically sequestering myself from the internet starting tomorrow. Even if Zam is pretty much a ghost town I'm not entirely sure I want to risk a driveby SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE for Avengers: Infinity War. I've been really good at avoiding trailers and commercials (sans the first one) and I'm going in about as pure as one can. Hell, I'm even avoiding Friday's Agents of SHIELD until after I see the movie.

Flea demanded that we see it this weekend so we have tickets for Sunday afternoon. Would have been nice if she mentioned it back when tickets first became available instead of waiting until most of the theaters had the good seats sold out.
I'll be watching it Saturday morning. Small enough town that I can get tickets when ever I want without pre-purchase.
Archer starts up on Wednesday. That and Bob's Burgers recently have kept me liking this Jon Benjamin guy. At least as far as animated comedies go. His live action stuff was pretty crap. Jon Benjamin has a Van was almost as stupid as much of Tim and Eric's stuff on Adult Swim. I even enjoyed Home Movies. He should stick to voice acting it seems.
The Russos just tweeted about the movie premiering tonight and to "avoid social media" so I'm going Luddite for the next week starting now. See you Monday.

I'll see it Friday night. I don't have to worry about pre-purchasing tickets, one of the few perks of living in the middle of nowhere. I'll probably post some non-spoilery impressions afterwards. Not that anyone come around this place on the weekend.
...scratch all of that. Thanks to some unforeseen car repairs I'm having done on Friday, I'll be seeing the movie on Thursday night. I drive past the theater I'm going to every day, so I stopped in and did a pre-purchase, just in case. The little girl at the counter recommended that I show up an hour early, so I'm guessing that it's going to be a full house.
Also, this:
Actually, as I was walking into the theater, they have signs asking people not to spoil the movie for others posted all over the place. I have a feeling some pretty major changes are coming.
Legion: More nice music choices. Interesting Syd story. I liked when David tried to pretend to be a teacher and stopped to talk to chlid-Syd. "You're Cheating." And when David tried first talking to Syd in the Mind-Museum. "I'll scream, Creep."
We knew of the shower scene in advance from her explaining it in Season 1. My only question is... at this point the mother had to have known of her daughter's powers. As a baby she pulls away from the touch. As a child her mother wraps her in a blanket before hugging her at night. It's all pointing toward her knowing of her powers. And yet, as a teenager, when the mother wakes up on the couch naked and finds her boyfriend and fully clothed teenage daughter in the shower... she has no idea what happened? I mean, they hinted at the boyfriend being a creep, winking at the daughter and all, but it didn't seem like he'd have acted on anything.
Krypton is getting better compared to where it started.
Archer is what you'd expect. And it's a pretty good thing.

That was my first reaction as well. It wasn't explicitly stated (hah. Nothing is explicitly stated in this series though) that her mother knew how her powers worked (or even that she had powers), but it certainly was implied pretty strongly. Heck. The fact that she woke up nude on the couch, and her robe was in the bathroom, should have perhaps clued her in that "something strange" happened. I suppose it's possible that Syd just "didn't like being touched", and that's what her mother was reacting to, and had no clue there were powers involved. It's actually unclear exactly when Syd realized she had this power. The scene with her using the boy to beat up the mean girls could have been the first time, but it also seemed like she knew what would happen and intentionally used her power to do this.
Also, apparently I missed exactly how her power works (I didn't go back and re-watch the first season, and we only really see it in full use very early on in the asylum). I didn't remember the whole bodies switching places thing when she reverts back. I thought it was just her taking over the other person's body for a period of time. But both examples in this episode clearly showed her physically swapping places as well. Dunno if I just forgot, or there was so much other strange stuff going on previously that I didn't notice.

Back in season 1, she body switches with David, and David-with-Her-body escapes and reverts back to David later while sitting at an outdoor cafe of some sort. And she body switches with the Watcher-guy, and later the Her-with-Watcher Guy-body reverts back to Her. Or was it that Watcher-Guy with Her body switches back while standing in the road as they get away? I think that was it. Either way the bodies switch at the end rather than the minds. I think the only thing that hasn't actually been shown to operate the same way is when in Season 2 (very minor spoilers) she is body switching with the cat. Cat with Her body is shown licking herself and stretching. Her with Cat's body is shown just talking without moving her mouth. None of those instances seem to show the reverting back though. But maybe it works differently with animals (One would hope... that could make for a very awkward switch back. Even more so than suddenly finding yourself inside your girlfriend's teenage daughter...
Seems that the first contact, the minds switch which bodies they are attached to. And after it wears off, the bodies switch which minds they are attached to.
I'm actually kind of curious what happened at the very beginning of the episode when Syd's mother holds her close after birth. Had her powers not yet manifested (though, very shortly in life later as a swaddled baby, she appears to have the same aversion to touch) or did Mother and Baby switch minds then too? Seems like it could have happened. Because later when she tries to touch the cheek and the baby "WAH!" and turns her head to push her away, she doesn't attempt again or force the touch. Like she understood what happens.
I have seen Infinity War. All that I'm going to say is if you care to see it unspoiled, don't wait. There are things that happen that won't stay secret for long.

Yeah. That's what I thought. It was early enough in season 1, and there's so much "weird" stuff that happens, that I'd totally forgotten how it worked, or didn't realize it, or whatever. I probably should have re-watched the season, just to pick up stuff like that, which you see, don't understand, and later go "wtf happened?". There's a lot of that.
Quote:

Well, that seems obvious now...
I can actually see some pretty interesting and useful ways to use that to her advantage. Although she's portrayed as not really wanting to use her power most of the time (well, cat excepted apparently, but I chalk that up to "weird stuff" that happens in this series). But yeah, if she wanted to, she could do some neato stuff with her powers beyond what we've seen her do. Specifically, being able to get herself physically (not just her mind) into or out of locations without being detected.

Yeah. Hence, why the whole mom not seeming to know what happened with the boyfriend thing seemed a bit odd. It felt like she must have known about Syd's power, but maybe not. Or maybe she needed a convenient excuse to get rid of the creepy boyfriend and her daughter provided it? Dunno.
Avengers: Best part (minor spoiler, only one sentence). Peter Dinklage as a Giant Dwarf. Audience stuff (spoilers): A little girl behind me started crying at the end. Her mother kept saying "It's just a movie, it's just a movie!".. Probably the most crowded I've seen this theater on a Saturday showing at noon. Still only about 30% full. A lot for this theater though.
A new Deadpool 2 trailer was shown (At least, one I hadn't seen.) Nothing actually "new" but just different set of scenes showing the same stuff, different orders, etc.
SHIELD: Movie spoiler talk. Doesn't seem to have any link to Avengers, other than maybe Busey Jr mentioning that "thing happening in New York". But I kind of hope that isn't a reference the Avengers thing. I'm hoping that the happenings in Avengers don't spill over into this story arc in SHIELD and cause certain things to happen. Non-movie spoiler talk. Super-powered Talbot seems pretty cool. The scene with him crushing the attackers was quite detailed. Jagged pieces of bone sticking from their limbs, etc.

The one with the "normal" dude skydiving? That was pretty much the only scene that really made me interested in the movie. The rest, while funny, just looks like more of the same to me and it just doesn't feel like a "must see."
Bad Samaritan looks interesting as well. It looks like David Tennant enjoyed his time as the Purple (Dressed) Man in Jessica Jones and is going for sociopath roles now.
I need to catch up on pretty much all of last week's shows.

Yes. When I made the post I had actually forgotten that part, somehow. But when it showed I audibly laughed as the guy said "Oh, I don't have any powers, I just saw the ad." Deadpool, "You're in!" *Normal guy skydiving out of plane*
And now I see the normal guy member of X-Force on the TV spots on FX.

I do want to watch that one. Tennant does a good job as the crazy evil guy.
