Speaking of the Senate, Cindy McCain (wife of John McCain) is poised to take a job at the State Department. A cushy gig too, since they don't really know what they'll do with her:
AP wrote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, is expected to be offered a prominent role in the Trump administration’s State Department, two individuals familiar with the discussions said Thursday.

Although it wasn’t clear what position she would fill, one possibility under discussion is McCain serving as an ambassador-at-large in Washington, focusing on a specific issue such as human trafficking, according to the administration official and another individual familiar with the talks. McCain, a philanthropist and global humanitarian activist, has been a vocal advocate for victims of human trafficking for several years.

Also Sessions can technically still go after medical marijuana, but only if everyone on the case agrees to work for free.

So I decided I'd watch the new Bill Nye show on Netflix

How the actual **** did we go from talking about water vapor to this? You know, every time Joe Sixpack uses a word like "snowflake" or posts a retarded meme on Facebook crying about trans people and public bathrooms I roll my eyes. The whole idea of the millennial college student who needs a safe space was just supposed to be some absurd strawman that represented 0.00001% of the actual population.

Then I see **** like this, and I start to wonder. This is not some confused tween girl on Tumblr who's going through a phase. This is ******* Bill Nye in association with a whole lot of other grown-*** adults producing this show.

All this time I've been laughing at my wife's family of ignorant backwater hicks and the inanity behind the last election and everything before and after while they become progressively less reasonable and more open and proud about their willful stupidity. Then something like this comes along like some horrible dump truck of validity for them. It doesn't make them right. **** no. It's just starting to look like a race to see who can be the most retarded, and everyone is winning.

Because the French people saw what a shitshow strident right-wing nationalists are.

I suppose having it happen two days before the election rather than several months before helps as well. Probably more of the first thing though.

Admit it. You didn't even try to understand.

If I were to say there was a complaint to be made, it is that there are no more reasonable people, and perhaps there never were any to begin with. --that the same people who make compelling arguments pertaining to subjects like climate change and gun control can also be so profoundly ignorant. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find opinions in people that aren't extreme right or extreme left. It's like you can't be conservative without being some raving authoritarian neo-fascist, and you can't be liberal without becoming some ridiculous social-justice warrior. It is as if the entire world has gone insane-- and to say that just feels like such an understatement. Just look at who the president is and really let that sink in. Look at all of them. Look at their opposition. Look at everyone. It's like a ******* freak show no matter where you turn.

I don't get it, the message is just 'don't hate on gays". You know that's not considered radical anymore, right? That's the mainstream position. I was expecting something about genderfluidity or something controversial in the centre, but this is some weak hash.

The cartoon itself is pretty garbage, but then it is literally propoganda.

Well, I read it and it wasn't obvious. I'll admit I didn't put much effort into deciphering it.

Ignorant how? I guess I don't understand whether you disagree with his premise or the execution of his explanation. Are you mad that he believes that sexual and gender preferences are an innate part of your identity or mad that he illustrated this using ice cream cones?

It's not just the cartoon. It is the entire show. The message of that clip was not "don't hate on gays." It was "gay conversion therapy works, and is ok, but only if its in reverse."

I should not have to be pointing this out.

You took one glance at it and assumed it was "don't hate gays." Really? That is the problem in itself. But you are exactly right-- "don't hate gays" is mainstream. It isn't enough to simply not hate gays anymore. It isn't enough to state the obvious, and that is not what they are doing.

Do I need to explain why this is a problem? Do I really need to explain how this type of thing gives validity to people who actually hate gays? --that it makes their otherwise absurd fear seem reasonable when the message of the cartoon is literally "try and convert straight people while deliberately undermining their religion to their face"?

You could start with explaining why it was okay for the vanilla to try to convert the other flavors but somehow the other flavors doing it is undermining it's religion.

It's not being converted, just persuaded it's ok to loosen up. Vanilla is already gay, as we can see from its neapolitan fantasies. Within their ice cream metaphor, and it is stupid, their actual flavour is supposed to be changed, right? But vanilla is an intrinsic part of neapolitan, and thus vanilla enaging in this orgy isn't a rejection of its vanilla self but an embracing of it. If it changed itself, its flavour, it wouldn't fit in.

They're actually doing the old "all homophobes are actually *****" thing, not a reverse conversion therapy.

That much I can agree with. Plus it was just sort of annoying to watch. I don't need to spend time on screaming ice cream cones running around. But my reaction was "This is kinda dumb", not "OMG this ruins everything!!!"

The right has been going ape over a couple of his videos talking about sexuality and other stuff dubbed "left wing propaganda." Things like "nobody just wants to be one flavor of ice cream" and "it's the science of feelings" are enough to cause irritation, and there's some other things in his videos lately that have likewise triggered people. Probably should have chosen their words better, but I doubt they got any input on what phrases would provoke a bad reaction from the conservative Christian camp. Since it seems more like the video is there to discredit them and all.

All this is small potatoes, of course, to the fact that it's a horrible video that should have gotten it's creators burned as a sacrifice to the big ice cream cone in the sky long before the public ever saw it.

Vanilla should have told the others that "It's just obvious" and left it at that.

Vanilla needs you to know why your abhorrent flavor is wrong, Joph.

Genesis 19:29 - So when The Big Ice Cream In The Sky destroyed the Baskin Robins of the plain, he remembered Vanilla, and he brought French Vanilla out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where French Vanilla had lived.

I realize it isn't a big deal if your perspective is that is only from this video. The thing is. It's not. This kind of sentiment is becoming more and more common. Progressives used to be the voice of reason, but their fragile credibility has been completely destroyed. I'm not in any way being dramatic when I say our country is doomed-- and the blame rests entirely on the laziness and apathy of those who would otherwise might have been able to convince enough people to not let this happen.

If that is hard to understand, think of it this way: We have x number of years, possibly decades of completely unopposed Republican policy to look forward to. Once Trump has had his 8 years, it'll be Ted Cruz, or Newt Gingrich, or some other fucking slob. Every facet of government will be stuffed with backwater hicks like Joe Wilson. Why? Because instead of tearing down real issues like we were in the 90s and 2000s, we are all too busy arguing about whether or not a fucking tranny can use his preferred public toilet-- and when the average Joe Fuckhead goes to vote, that will be the first and probably the only thing he thinks about.

So what you're saying is you would rather have the average Joe ******** to use his uneducated, alternative-fact-driven, knee-jerk vote to influence something that actually matters?

I'm sure that'll end well... Smiley: rolleyes
