Maybe this will lead to fascists repairing roads as well to show up the anarchists and pretty soon they'll be completing on-ramp work and stuff. This might be Trump's big infrastructure plan.

A space launch like you never seen before. No simulated video, this was all taken live using telescopes on land and cameras mounted on the first stage.

Hitler built the autobahn, and then gave out free gas.

Maybe Fascism isn't so bad.

I don't know what just flew into the bug zapper, but long story short the fire extinguisher works.

Don't know if I'll ever get tired of watching them land rockets like that.

Please tell me this was at work. Because when the incident report gets declassified in 20 years it'll make a good read.

It was at work in the smoking area. I have no idea what it was, but it's about finger length and now made of charcoal.

As an aside, the insect reporting procedure at my workplace involves filing like 5 pages of forms. This must be done for each bug identified, and may require formal study.

Over the last hour I've been reviewing three witnesses' forms plus writing my own.

At least I can pretend it's also training for police reports.

Also we had our annual May day contest again. This year 25 chosen winners got an opportunity to meet with various members of our law enforcement community, and will continue having periodic interactions with them over the next few months. Hopefully getting a chance to discuss their ideology with different judges, staff members, and Bubba the violent skinhead of cell block Q6 will help us all come to a better understanding of each other's unique morality and social outlook.

Had a conference with the company commander and the fire department, showed them the burned out bug zapper, wall, and outlet, offhandedly blamed it as part of a cimex terrorist attack, then spent twenty minutes explaining cimex isn't a country in the Middle East.

The School Day Has Been Altered wrote:
May the fourth is a day for Star Wars fans of all stripes to celebrate their fandom. Unfortunately, one high school student's attempt to celebrate led to some fairly severe reactions. A student at a Wisconsin high school wore a Darth Vader costume to class today, but when he was spotted by a concerned parent, the outfit caused them to get spooked and call it in as a potential threat, resulting in the school being evacuated.

All of this took place this morning at Ashwaubenon High School in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, a suburb of Green Bay. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the student who arrived dressed as Darth Vader raised flags because he entered the school via the back, with the Vader mask over his face, and there was concern that the rest of the costume "looked like he might be wearing a bulletproof vest or a flak jacket." The person who saw the unnamed teenager then called the police and the school was put on lockdown before being evacuated. Now that the dust is settled, the police are confirming that this was simply "an innocent mistake."

This is one of those situations that luckily gets to be funny because there was nothing else going on. As crazy as it sounds, if somehow this was an actual threat, it would have certainly been scary. Considering that there was once a shooting at a movie theater during a Batman movie by somebody who felt a connection to The Joker, we can't entirely discount the possibility that there could have been something here.

However, since there wasn't a real threat here, just a guy who liked Star Wars, the entire thing comes off like a serious overreaction. While May the fourth has long been a day that people celebrate Star Wars it's not like it's any sort of official holiday. Lots of people aren't really aware of it. If they were, the reaction might not have been quite so severe, but maybe the worried parent did know what day it was and simply wanted to be safe as opposed to sorry.

We hope the student in the Darth Vader costume is doing ok. Clearly, he just wanted to celebrate Star Wars and have some fun. He certainly wasn't expecting to cause his entire school to freak the hell out. It wasn't his fault that he spooked people, so hopefully, nobody gets him in too much trouble. He's likely embarrassed enough as it is. Still, it does go to show the true power of Darth Vader. Everybody was terrified of him, so clearly, the costume successfully did its job. Maybe next May the fourth the school will have some specific guidelines to avoid seeing this happen again.

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that a movie has it's own unofficial holiday? Yes? No? Maybe?

At least he came as Vader. Stormtrooper with a laser rifle gets expelled and learns first hand why mandatory minimum sentences aren't necessarily a good idea.

So, 20-ish million Americans are about to lose access to health care, and the frat boys in the House are singing about it and throwing themselves a kegger.

You have to give them credit. They must be REALLY confident that everyone will love their health care come 2018 because the GOP owns it 100% and clips of them celebrating with beer and singing will be in every competing House campaign commercial.

That didn't take long. The Senate smothered the House bill in the cradle.

Doesn't that 20-ish million number include those who would voluntarily drop their insurance once no longer having the mandate?

Edit:
According to Kai Ryssdal on NPR on my drive home just now. 24 million either losing, or chosing to no longer have, health insurance.

To be clear, I think choosing to not have health insurance is an issue itself that needs to be addressed. But I just think it's a bit dishonest to tout the number as people losing healthcare. Because it implies something different than simple choosing not to have health insurance because you have the option not to have it.

Senate GOP says they're not even going to consider the House bill, but are going to write their own from scratch.

So let's slow our roll on the doomsday talk (for now).

There's been doomsday talk for the last decade. Any slower and it'll be a member of Congress.
