There's no problem with games expanding and broadening their horizons. However, you don't do that by bullying your way into existing IPs and demanding they change. You also don't do it by attacking games you don't like. Instead, you should lead the way by creating new things. But if you think Anita and co are here to broaden games, you and I obviously watched very different videos.

It's just criticism. You know your whole 'debate is not harassment' thing, it's the same deal. Only, you know, GG does genuinely harass people all the time. But other than that, same deal. Criticism isn't bullying. Critical analysis isn't bullying. In Sarkeesian's case it might not be very good, but that's really neither here nor there; there's a clear counteraction to any kind of critical analysis regardless of its quality.

It's fucking stupid, is what it is, and impossible to respect.

On the other hand, if Sarkeesian was going to give input on a title, better it's Mirror's Edge (which always comes up as an example of a strong female protagonist game anyway) and not Saints Row where I run down the street, knocking down prostitutes with a 6' dildo-bat.

Hey, maybe. Mirror's Edge would have been improved by removing the gunplay entirely, which might be the kind of thing she'd suggest? Maybe? I don't actually give enough of a fuck about her to have any kind of handle on her views.

... according to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services:

Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things. Verbal bullying includes: Teasing, name-calling, inappropriate sexual comments, taunting, and threatening to cause harm.

In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include repetition and an imbalance of power.

The name-calling is pretty real, pretty perpetual, and pretty dang aggressive. I suppose the imbalance of power is up for debate, but since Catch-22 arguments are pretty popular in the debate, I'd argue that the imbalance is there.

Well, the main character is female, and npcs do shoot at her, and that's perpetrating violence against females so it's possible.

An interview with a game dev who was also formerly a journalist isn't relevant to a discussion on ethics in games journalism, but is instead gossip?

Yes. Are we pretending you care about "ethics in game journalism" now? While calling the players "Joshie Josh" etc? If anyone gave enough of a **** about this (other than you) to start a gaming TMZ, I imagine we'd never see you post again.

When I post about elections it's sports. I don't care about "the ethics of the political process." On the other hand I'm not a self important douche who can't just admit to enjoying a show without pretensions of grandeur.

...Okay? Hard to address this post as it doesn't make any sense. It's possible for people to bully other people. Maybe some tumblr feminists are bullying you, or someone you know. They are people, and it is possible for them to do this. However, criticism still isn't the same thing as bullying.

Yes. Heartfelt blog posts by spurned x-lovers, or disgruntled x-employees... throwing around names, hinting at misdeeds and past digressions, etc etc.

It's been gossip since about post #111.

Edit: I indulged in typos.

About as much as anyone else is caring about feminism in gaming.

I care about the lack of animalism in games.

I can care about ethics in game journalism while simultaneously making fun of this guy. You may have trouble doing simple things simultaneously, but just because you can't walk and chew bubblegum at the same time doesn't mean the rest of us suffer from your disability.

Listen, if your ego requires lying to yourself to get by, I get it. That's a common failing in weak minded idiots. This pretending that it's somehow a virtue, though, is fucking ludicrous. Grow up a little. Learn to admit your flaws or at least to shut the fuck up before embarrassing yourself like this.

You enjoy making fun of people. Me too. Neither of us should have to build some idiotic pretense to "defend" that.

Never said I didn't. I spent an hour yesterday with my roommates making fun of that principal who suspended the kid for "terrorist threats" involving "The One Ring". But in this case, laughing at the more moronic people on the other side is the icing on the cake, not the cake.

I actually do care about ethics and integrity in journalism as a whole and in games journalism in particular. I've never expected a whole lot of it from either and I think that should change.

I had to mind myself to come look at this at home. I made it to 1:33. There's no way that goes on for twenty minutes and someone watches all the way to the end.
