Well, what about her opinion do you personally agree with that qualifies her to be a paid consultant on a game?

I don't think she's wrong that some games objectify women. I don't think Ms. Pacman is a great example (I think I recall viewing one of her videos on that subject & found it absurd), but there's certainly other examples where she wouldn't be wrong. If say, a game developer had been criticized for copious amounts of objectification & hired her on as a consultant I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with it (I don't think Mirror's Edge fits that bill, though). I think many other woman would be more qualified for that job, but since Anita seems to have a large audience I would understand why someone would hire her for this hypothetical position.

Now, if Rockstar wanted her to consult on GTA VI I would more understand the outrage. Heck, I would be outraged. What would GTA be without the ability to bang hookers & kill them to get your $ back?

1 - I am not flipping my ****.
2 - Do you not see how this is an absurd knee-jerk reaction to a non-existent "problem"?
3 - I think this petition is a decent example of how GGers operate

Petition against something you are not against? WTF, you are all over reacting!

I agree with lolgaxe that petitions are mostly worthless anyway, regardless of what they are for/against. They become more worthless when they are about something untrue. But whatever makes you feel better, I suppose.

But it's a completely benign "knee-jerk reaction". If you want people to be up in arms about Twitter harassment or bomb threats or sending photos of your front door, sure. A petition? That's "how GGers operate"? Well, hell, looks like the whole issue is solved then because who gives a fuck about people making petitions?

Unless your name is Anita. Then its further proof that being a woman with controversial opinions is somehow a bad thing, especially after all the threats & such.

Yup, a non-"issue" was solved by a petition signed 40k+ times that accomplished nothing. Wheee!!!

No, it's still benign. Anita gets to express her opinions. Other people get to express THEIR opinions. No one is getting set on fire or raped or run out of town by the threats of arson-rape. Wasn't THAT the supposed problem that started this whole thing? Threats of rape and bodily harm? Have we watered this down to "But what if people don't like the opinion and they say so Smiley: frownSmiley: frownSmiley: frown"

Aww, 'charity drive'... was hoping for 'mushroom', because that'd be much cooler in the context. Also, you'd be wizards, Harry.

I don't think Jack Thompson was wrong that some games glorify violence, but that doesn't mean I think he should have any part in game creation.

So you agree that, based on her opinion, she's not qualified for the job. Essentially this petition is something you agree with.
Omegavegeta wrote:

Well, it's proof that being Anita with an opinion which she charged people for and presented as legitimate research findings that are universally disagreed with is a bad thing.

I can't speak for Joph, but it seems unlikely that he "agrees with" starting a petition to prevent someone he doesn't really have any interaction with from having a job. It seems pretty clear from, oh, I don't know, reading the words he wrote...that he thinks this sort of thing is the appropriate venue for people who have the time and emotional energy to care where this woman works. It allows them to feel they did something while keeping the rest of the universe safe from harm.

I riddled this out from:

Quote:

No, it's still benign.

Let me know if it's still unclear and I'll see if I can't have a short animated film with talking teacups made.

And here you are pushing the same ******** I hear from feminists all the ******* time. Just because someone hasn't backed your female superiority ideology doesn't mean they think men are superior. It's a false dichotomy and is a dishonest tactic.

Furthermore you've also tried to homogenize feminism with egalitarianism. Feminism is the ADVOCACY OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS on the basis of the political, social, and economic equality to men. Words have meaning; egalitarians are actually concerned with equality; Feminists are concerned with women only.

Actually, fuckstick, she articulated it perfectly.

Show me some proof that lying is more prevalent among those that think women and men are equal human being than it among those who think men are superior human beings.

Which word is giving you trouble here? "Women" or "Men" or is it "equal"?

I realize you probably have a set of canned arguments you puke into words to defend being a fucking small minded bigot, but it doesn't apply in this case.

Maybe let a women proof-read the next one so you don't appear to trite and foolish.

I personally want the rumor of Anita Sarkeesian working on ME2 to be true.

This when when the game flops as it inevitably will because feminists and social justice warriors are a bunch of fucking killjoys. No developer will ever almost consider bringing any of those morons on board again. I know it would suck for Mirror's Edge fans but a small price to pay for a greater good.

1. According to Carroll, the plan all along was to run next down if/when the pass didn't work. Anyways, all is right with the world around me. Would have been a miserable day at the office if the Pats lost.

2. a. Petitions are nice peaceful protesting tools, though ideologically speaking, Gamergate is about ethics in journalism, so they'd be way off message with this petition. In fact, they 'd be playing into their skeptics hand who claim they don't like girls with mouths.
2. b. I doubt if many gamers, including the thousand that signed this petition, make it a habit to check the curriculum vitae of the devs working on a title before buying and playing a game. Again, this anti-anita push is nothing if not irrational. Hell, for all you or I know she could add something to a game, or at least earn her pay. But then I enjoy games mostly for the gaming mechanics more-so than the graphics or storyline. I wouldn't be hurt if a game that might have had tits&aas, didn't. Anyways, there are enough games being made that allowing Anita to provide expert feminism input to a title or two isn't going to crash the industry. I mean GG has pretty much made it a necessity that the industry pay some attention to 'isms'.
2. c. It's water under the bridge anyways, isn't it?

3. Look for an upcoming episode of Law & Order to feature a make-believe GG crime.

Looking from the outside, it seems they don't like Anita, not "girls with mouths". Maybe the skeptics are missing that distinction.

Also, I don't like Anita, But I love a girl with a mouth!
