I know, right? I bet she even had to look things up so she could realize just how much TB burned her.

This may be an effective way of combating the rape threats. If gamergaters really wanted to combat that, I think it would certainly be more effective than buying a sea-lion.

Eh... the little kids posting from their personal facebook accounts aren't the real threat. They are the ones doing so just to get a rise out of the target and the readers (and being, unsurprisingly, very bad at it).

Did you see how one of the articles about it said it was GGers she was reporting? Did you also see where she popped in and said she wasn't comfortable saying it was GG? Lulz was had.

Anyway, you wanna figure out how to find someone anonymously tweeting rape threats so I can call their moms on them, you go right ahead. I don't know how to do it. All I know how to do is keep an eye on #Gamergate Harassment Patrol and report anyone I see doing ****. As far as I know, it's all we really can do.

If GGers can dox women with opinions, they can dox people who send rape threats to them. I'm simply stating it would be a more effective way of countering the misogynistic shit GGers are associated with than a sea-lion purchase or twitter "justice".

Just tell me how I'm supposed to do it when the FBI, who can subpoena more info about it, can't. If it were that easy to find anons, there would have been an arrest by now.

Hell, even if you have nothing else, they almost always at least start you out with their real name. So at least you have somewhere to start.

Place of employment, full name, at the very least usually the State you live in, sometimes city.

As I mentioned before, if you know a persons name and the City the live in, addresses and property ownership are a matter of public record.

The main difference between "dox"ing a public figure and tracking down completely anonymous sources is you know... that anonymity aspect.

Poldaran, let me give you the perspective of someone passing through who has browsed through this thread occasionally since the beginning. Gamersgate is not about ethics in journalism. I've pretty much seen two types of posts relating to this matter from you and and others supporting this cause: posts defending that gamergate is not about misogyny and posts attacking people criticizing gamersgate being about misogyny. What seems to be omitted are any posts related to ethics in game journalism.

Let me give you a painfully stretched analogy. You want some ice cream and you walk into an ice cream store. You see a wall lined with printers, stacks of paper, and computers. The gentleman hands you a pamphlet stating how his competitor is a liar claiming that his store does not sell ice-cream. You request an ice cream cone, but the gentleman explains he had to sell his freezers to buy the printer so he could tell everyone that he really does run an ice cream store and his competitor is just a liar.

This gentleman is not running an ice-cream store. Maybe he was at some point, but he is not now.

I went back one page. Another page back, here I'm going on a rant about games journalism. Here's a post a page back from that where I mention someone has contacted the FTC, which I believe was also related to journalistic ethics. There is a second post on that page further discussing that.

Another page back. an article about the wrongdoings of journalists. This one's one more page back and has an interview with an Xbox dev who discusses games journalism and how devs are afraid to get involved.

At that point, we go a page without an ethics related link from me, so let's call that enough links for now. Please understand that I could do nothing but post the daily email targets and links to discussions specifically about ethics, but that would absolutely require me to ignore triple K and Elinda. And they would often involve just rehashing old stuff. It would also mean I don't get to post fun things like crowdfunding a sea-lion or the silliness with the PC Master Race thing. So, yes, the movement has taken on a life of its own, and I'm going to talk about it when there's no ethics news going on.

If someone actually wants the email target of the day so they can toss emails, let me know and I'll post em. Otherwise, I didn't want to bother you all with that.

I can see both sides. But I tend be somewhat like that. I'm male and I like sexy woman in my games. I don't want to see video games be neutered anymore than I want to see conservative religions restrict the personal freedoms of people in general. Harassment and trolling is not the answer. I think Pol gets that, but it's a weapon wielded by both sides in a different way.

Do I think there is corruption in journalism? All of it. All forms of it. I think most people get that and temper their ingestion of it accordingly.

Speaking of Dox. If you ever read Krebs on security blog you can get a basic idea of how its done. He likes to dox .ru spammers and malware guys. The gist is as long as you have been on the internet you probably left a trail. Did you register at that darkweb forum with the same email address you registered a business domain to on ARIN or RIPE five years ago? Or a really similar user name? People get attached to their personas. Just human nature.

Anyway I was not going to get in a GG debate, and I did now. I blame whiskey and to much free time from being on vacation. Back to stabbing dragons.
