Ooohh, I hope Obama wins his next election!

Sort of serious question, could Obama (or any other former president) run for senator or some other elected position or is being a president for 8 years the end of that line?

Yes it's been a couple of times in the past with Adams and Andrew Johnson might be others, but those are the ones I remember.

Thanks. I figured there'd be no issue with it but I couldn't think of any who did.

Wouldn't be politics if there weren't any issues.

Massive pay cut for a job with less power than "Former President". Really isn't much reason for anyone to do it.

That's a big deal for someone trying to be president, right? It should matter whether those who attacked our embassy did so as a result of a planned campaign against us, or a random spur of the moment thing. For her to question why it matters tells us that she either doesn't understand the job she was doing, or didn't care about the job she was doing. So why the hell should we reward her with an even more important job?
Still firmly in that third group. More of our people got blown up needlessly in the middle east. Who'd have guessed it? Beer me.

A former president loses their salary if they take another government position?

No, but being a senator cuts into how many paid speaking gigs you can pick up as an ex-president.

False. Politicos don't have ethics, therefore no ethical issues.

At least through football season.

Wtf is up with a pre-game superbowl show that features an O'reilly interview with Obama?

Was Barry convincing?

I guess the president (not just Obama, but 'the president'? Did Bush do this? Clinton?) does that every year? Tradition? And the station hosting the event picks their reporter. O'Reilly interviewed Obama before the Super Bowl a few years ago as well. Which I remember happening but don't remember anything about.

I must have just been drawn in at the right moment. I caught the Obama-O'reilly interview, which was actually pretty interesting to see. The next time I settled for a moment in front of the telly it was Michelle Obama and Jill Biden talking about service people, vets etc.

I missed half-time playing stupid video game. Smiley: frown

You didn't miss much. The singing was better than that time Fergie (sp?) did it but it was pretty boring.

Commercials sucked pretty bad too. A few good ones but way too much touchy feely "go America" car commercials for my liking.

Bad game. Bad commercials. Boring half time. All around crappy Super Bowl.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl, so I have no idea if the commercials were good or whatever, but the Anna Kendrick / New Castle "If we'd made a Super Bowl commercial" commercial was good.

I liked the Volkswagon one (every time VW hits 100K miles, a German engineer gets wings), and the Audi one (the Matrix parody.)

The puppy/horse Bud one that has everyone dying of cute overload was okay, but I don't thing it was the best one of the night because we don't know if the guy with the horse eventually adopted the puppy or what.

And that one wasn't even "new" because they put it online the week before the Super Bowl.

I saw one with where a guy had a Dale Call versus a Duck Call and he called in a Nascar to ravage his wet-land. Not sure what the commercial was for.

I saw one with a man and a woman in a fancy pick-up on a country road. "Chevy commercial!" The woman had very short hair, so you knew immediately that she is supposed to be a cancer patient. They smiled nervously at each other, then held hands and found their confident smiles for each other. Then the Chevy and ACS scroll comes across the top of the screen. Really. Bad. Commercial.

Said O'Malley: "I have a great deal of respect for Hillary Clinton. But for my own part, I have a responsibility to prepare and to address the things that I feel a responsibility to address... To squander this important period of preparation because of horse-race concerns and handicapping concerns is just not a very productive use of energy... Right now, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing -- the thought work and the preparation work."

I kind of liked the Jaguar "Brits make the best villains" commercial. But then, I'm half in love with Tom Hiddleston, so there's that.

Its so that those of us who don't give a crap about football something to do 1 day a year. Not that I'm still bitter about the superbowl being the same day as my 21st birthday or anything, which is why I didn't go out to any bars to celebrate.

I have no clue what they were selling (a truck maybe?), but the one with the bull going out to stud up the ladies was pretty darn funny.
