And congrats Belkira, there seem to be lots of jobs in your field here in the NYC area and I expect that's the same everywhere. It should be comforting to be in a field that has a high demand.

Thanks! It's funny, because we always hear about how MT is going away. When ACA happened, there was a huge uproar that electronic medical records would be the death of this career.

I'm assuming, though, that this happens with any new job you pursue. Smiley: smile

ETA: Also? HIPAA is ******* boring.

ETA: What? I don't think this is boring at all!

As long as there are doctors who are happier dictating into an iPhone than they are typing up paragraphs, there will always be careers in this field.

OMG! Friends wife had brain surgery this past year (actually *twice* this past year, long story). While she was recovering, the doctor was telling him about how well the procedure went, how he was able to visualize the whole area, etc, and proceeded to show him pictures of her brain on his iPhone. I really don't want to think about how they got there. I mean, I'm hoping he didn't actually have his iPhone in the OR, but you never know right?

If Grey's Anatomy has taught me anything, it's that the doctors have their phones in the OR and there is a nurse or candystriper or someone standing next to them. When it rings, she tells them who it is. I'm assume she also knows how to utilize the camera function.

After getting over the initial "You were taking selfies in the OR with my brain?!?" squeamishness, I'd want to see what my brain looked like.

Teaching moments.

I had my first baby at the U of MN Hospital. When it was time, I was wheeled into the delivery room, put behind a curtain, stripped down, strirruped up and put into the position. Then the curtain was opened and there was whole class full of wide-eyed med students shuffling in for the 'live' presentation. At that point I was beyond all modesty and hoping maybe many hands would make light work, but they didn't help at all.

Med students are probably dirtier than a doctor's iPhone as well.

You should have started a puppet show.
