I'll put in a good word for you, get you moved to the front of the line or something.

Ok it's not quite that far yet, but it's still pretty cool stuff. They've proven pluripotentcy at least, which is a big step (assuming it doesn't get retracted like Mr. infamous Korean guy's work did). So in theory we could start growing you a new liver once you kill your old one off. Unfortunately this is one of those things that tends to bring protestor people and what not. Meaning it becomes annoying to get to work, and they make you show your ID badge about a bazillion times anytime you go anywhere. Should make things more interesting at least. On a completely unrelated note they just passed a resolution in the state legislature granting our campus security officers the use of firearms.

So what are your thoughts?
Cool, name my clone ______.:9 (47.4%)
You mentioned a protest, how do I join? :0 (0.0%)
Can I be the person who shoots the protestors? :7 (36.8%)
I'm content watching the drama on the TV with my beer and popcorn handy.:3 (15.8%)
Total:19

I totally went with option 3. I've got the training.

I'd probably just name my clone something like Organ Farm.

Interesting. Definitely naming my clone Cody.

I find it interesting that cloned primates show real problems when advancing towards the embryo stage. I think I know what I'll be reading about after the exam season is over.

If they can make the clone female, then "Waifu". I'll probably get murdered by her/it over the name but it would be worth it for the lulz.

I adhere to the Android version naming conventions, so Eske 2.0 will be more commonly referred to as Eclair.

He will also support Microsoft Exchange server.

It'd be more efficient if the clone grew the goatee. That way you can claim they're the evil one.

According to NPR this morning, the scientists have already stated that this process wouldn't be usable for growing clones, according to tests they've already done with animals. That seems to just be the public response to the idea.

I live less than 100 miles from that, so if you decide to go desert scouring, let me know. I'm pretty sure they crushed them before burial, however, so it's not like they'd be functional.

As if that were any different than before they crushed em.

If I'm just naming the liver I'd probably go with something like Cirry. If I'm naming my entire clone it would be Elindax as Elinda is already taken.

Maybe there should just be a symbol you can add to your name to designate that it's a clone. I'd suggest a double helix.

In NM, actually. About 65 miles away from the town where they buried them, though no idea how close to town it was.

I think Dolly was 1997 or so, and I haven't heard about much since then. She was a "success," I suppose. If all you want is for the clone to make it to infancy.

I have no moral qualms about cloning in general, nor organ farming (assuming you don't clone a sentient being specifically for it). My ethics coursework for philosophy always included it, and most arguments come down to the same ones used against birth control - don't play God.

There IS one other major track of reasoning against both cloning and genetic engineering, though, which argues that it would be immoral based on the inherent classism it would endorse. Basic story: The rich could afford to engineer their children, when the poor couldn't, so over time the wealthy class would produce humans with capabilities vastly above the lower class. This would turn economic class into an actual biological class.

I suppose you could use that for cloning too, in some form. But considering there's no good reason to consider a clone anything but their own human person under the law, you'd just use family laws for inheritances and such. I mean, natural clones exist - they're called "twins" - so it's not like this actually creates any new issues with the law - procedural or forensic.

I'm not too worried; the rich will eventually turn into these guys, then die off due to unrepairable flaws in their genetic code due to the cloning.
