Joph is only siding with gbaji so he can use gbaji as a decoy later.

what put it over the top was the whole use of the "survival rules" scattered throughout the film, complete with fourth wall breaking messages whenever one applied. Funny as hell both because they're exactly the kinds of things that get people killed in zombie films and they didn't overplay it.

The rules are amusing but it's not as though the people acted "intelligently". Tallahassee goes out of his way to melee creatures that could infect him with a single bite. Wichita and Little Rock enact a plan with zero material reward and tremendous risk. But it's still good times.

I've complained about this before but Wichita's and Little Rock's little grocery store scam makes zero sense. What did they get out of it? Guns and a car? The world is full of guns and cars for the taking. Hell, an hour after they rob Tallahassee & Columbus, T&C find a bigger car with even more guns. So, to steal something littering the planet, they put Little Rock's life at risk, not knowing if these guys were going to say "Oh shit, zombie!" and immediately shotgun her head off or what. If they were just afraid of the strange men, the answer would be to quietly exit out the back door, not to set up a scene with corn syrup and a fake story and hope for the best. For a couple girls who supposedly had been pulling scams their whole life, they have zero concept of risk vs reward. But, yeah, I set it aside for the movie because I rationally know it's just rapid character development for the sake of the plot. Still dumb, though.

I never felt that they really had a concept of risk vs reward, even in the beginning. I always felt like half the reason they scammed people, even before the zombies, was for the thrill of being bad, and you don't get as much thrill when you play it safe.
