WHEN WILL THEY LEARN?!?!?! Smiley: cry

Learn to put a tiny script that redirects CA users to their affiliate, thus recapturing lost revenue, due to customers not knowing that the service is offered?

Yeah that sounds like something easy they could do to make more money.

But instead we should redesign the internet around the company, amirite?

I know I might be able to find the clip on comedy network, but it is a PITA finding them - so while I'm not going to pirate the show - I am also not going to waste my time trying to find the clip and make these guys some money.

So guess how much viacom makes? $0. Great business model.

So, I guess they deserve to whine and cry about how the internet is ruining their profit margins, amirite?

This.

Hell, I can't even be bothered to watch Friday night's episode of "Grimm" on NBC's website. Why in the hell would I want to go through the trouble of finding something illegal to download?

I have a nice TV, I have HD cable, I pay for it, so I'm gonna damn well use it.

YouTube blows.

According to Uglysasquatch they already do exactly this.

Guess how much they make by you watching it on their site for free vs. from provider licensing fees? Guess they better take your sterling business advice and offer it for free to everyone.

If by "all" you mean "Olorinus", yes. For the record, I don't believe there's some kind of moral imperative to share your content for free.

Unless, of course, their business model depends on, and thrives on, that illegal activity. Then I suppose they'll just act with feigned surprise and indignation and wait for the tools to all blame Hollywood.

A wesbite doesn't need to depend on illegal content for dumping the responsibility for enforcement in its lap to ruin it. It only has to depednd on something which makes the uploading of illegal content possible.

When you become accustomed to it though, it turns around to "why the hell would I want to go through the trouble of watching it broadcasted?"

Sure pirating is free (mostly) and so people will do it to save money, but another part of the issue that gets overlooked is that it's often a more convenient experience. I don't know many tech savvy people that watch television the traditional way even if they have cable or netflix. Pirating just gives them greater control over watch they are viewing. It's what DVR and cable providers are trying to imitate.

I know what you mean. DVR's are awesome.

I'd find DVR more appealing if I could transfer what I record on it to other mediums and watch them where I had the opportunity.

I use Netflix for that. There's enough stuff I enjoy watching that I can record the newer programs on the DVR and watch when I have time and for the times where I can't use the DVR, I pull out Netflix.

Netflix works for quite a lot of stuff.

But a external hard drive works for everything (else).
