@ Kelvy

I am no longer Catholic, I am agnostic. I care little about what others believe, provided they don't use those beliefs to justify bigotry & hatred, & have never witnessed anything supernatural myself so I do not believe in the supernatural.

Did my priest growing up have an experience that called him to service? He certainly thinks so & who am I to disagree?

Anyhoo, onto the meat & potatoes:

Kelvy wrote:
on your response; I'm am not trying to be insulting but this answer only displays your lack of knowledge of the theology of the Messiah and to quote from the Torah to justify a "Christian" priesthood is totally out of context.

Yup I quoted the old testament, but I also mentioned Peter. Ya know, the guy whom founded the Church your religion is based on, was the first Pope, Christ's favorite disciple, and all that? I get that there's different interpretations of the Bible & it's passages, but just as I can't deny that there are passages that support your position neither can you deny there are passages that support mine. Except you do, because you believe your flavor of Christianity to be superior to Catholicism, which makes you a douche.

Kelvy, Quoting the Bible wrote:

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

It's funny that you would quote Timothy, as it's the book of letters Paul wrote too Timothy when he was pastoring. They're not only the first & only letters in the new Testement to a Priest, but also between two Priests.

Kelvy wrote:
Dude.. you seriously need to leave your church immediately if they are teaching you that Mary is part of the Trinity.
Mary worship is a reincarnation of all of the Mother Goddess pagan worship that has been stalking mankind forever..
There is NO Mother of God. This image that Catholics worship is another form of Ashteroth and Ishtar and Venus and Diana.

I guess you misread that. Jesus was/is part of the holy trinity making up God, Mary was his earthly mother. She's worshiped as a Saint primarily because of how hard she had it going around trying to convince everyone, including her husband, that she was "immaculately" pregnant & her son was the Son of God.

And if you think praying to Mary is some sort of pagan worship, how sad were you to find out that your religion is based on Egyptian allegory? In fact, the Egyptian were smarter as their stories of Osiris/Isis/Horus were NOT taken as historically accurate, but the Christians took there version (which came after) as fact.
Kelvy wrote:

The reason I say "Deny the Holy Spirit" is because Catholics are not taught how to believe in Christ; they are taught to believe in the institutions of Man..

Catholics are taught to believe in Christ & THE man Christ put in charge, Peter. It's another one of those passages that really aren't up for interpretation: "You are Peter [Which Meant "Rock"), and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18).

I know you think you're doing good but trying to push your version of "the truth" onto others, but you'd be better served not being a douche about things while you're at it. I have the same sort of disdain for your brand of evangelicalism that I have for douchebags like Richard Dawkins.

It's not WHAT you say, it's how you say it.

That's not what he said. He said that Mary is venerated as the mother of Jesus, who is 33.3333% of the Holy Trinity. Jesus being that 33.33333%, not Mrs. Christ.

I think Alma is simply saying that likes dogs balls for dinner as long as he's not told what they are (and they're covered in BBQ sauce).

BEcause Jesus loves everyone, even the poofs!

Try being less of a douche next times you're in a religious argument & get a little background and perhaps you'll actually have a conversation as opposed to a pissing contest. We've got freedom of religion, whether your religious, think the religious are rediculous, or couldn't give a sh*t one way or the other.

Omega, once again, I am sorry that I am offending you with my assertiveness; but this is THE BIG BAD ASYLUM!!1 after all.. In the olden days, which I think you may remember, we actually used to debate without worry about people being to thin-skinned to handle having their ideas challenged and usually didn't take the time to point out that someone was being too harsh in their assertions.. But I do understand that most people have a natural tendencies to be biased and hypocritical when it comes to Christians; and I also think that this biased is supernatural; so I do not blame you for thinking that I am being a douche.

Quote:
Did my priest growing up have an experience that called him to service? He certainly thinks so & who am I to disagree?

Well; you already stated that you do not believe in the supernatural; so you obviously do disagree; but because it supports your statement you are choosing not to acknowledge that because you want to look like you are being fair.

In your statements about Peter founding the church etc.. well you are right.. to continue that debate would really turn this into a purely theological argument; and since you don't believe in any of it anyway I'm not going to waste any of our time pointing out the flaws in the basis for the Catholic church and and the erroneous labeling of the church fathers as "priests" and "popes".

Quote:
because you believe your flavor of Christianity to be superior to Catholicism, which makes you a douche.

Well, I'm sorry, but they all cannot be right; like most Christians like to think for the sake of compromise..

Quote:
Mary was his earthly mother. She's worshiped

Well G-D tells us to worship no other but Him.. so anything else you say to justify it is meaningless to the debate. Sorry. Am I being a douche by stating a scriptural fact?

Quote:
your religion is based on Egyptian allegory?

Baseless slander

Quote:

"You are Peter [Which Meant "Rock"), and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18).

well; I guess if you are going to get scriptural.. I'll play with you.
If you look at the context of what was being discussed in that scripture.. the line before that one states "for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." THAT is the rock or foundation the the Church is based on.. G-D revealing the Truth to man. Peter was called "The Rock" because he was stubborn and hard-headed.
But I understand that this will never be agreed upon by mere argument so I'll just leave it at that. I will just say that the Catholic point of view ignores all other contexts of what Christ taught to support its own fallacies. I am not saying that there are no "saved" Catholics; but it has certainly done an efficient job in pushing people away for Christ.. fruits of labor and whatnot..

Quote:

I have the same sort of disdain for your brand of evangelicalism that I have for douchebags like Richard Dawkins.

I suppose that the brand of evangelism that you would approve of would be complete silence or just patting everyone on the head and agreeing that everything is correct? Nope. If someone doesn't see that they are standing in the path of an oncoming train; it would be an act of gross criminality not to do whatever it takes to see where they are and what they need to do.

Quote:
It's not WHAT you say, it's how you say it.

no matter how I say "A train is about to hit you" doesn't make it any less true or not..

Given that you never addressed those comments in any case, assuming that I would "give the same answer" is a lazy cop out from avoiding the fact that you know my assessment is accurate.

a way of using humor to show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, etc. : humor that shows the weaknesses or bad qualities of a person, government, society, etc.

I got this one from the English Language Learners portion of the dictionary.

There are two reasons I know you don't understand what satire means. The first is because the FSM was not started as a religion, meant to be a religion, nor is it recognized as such, except in a satirical manner...In other words, to use humor to show the weaknesses and bad qualities (for example, the leaps of logic of the faithful) in recognized religions.

The second is because you're an idiot.
