Because I'm bored, and I always meant to do the math on this one.

See Post #225 in this thread.

Big bag of white rice: 4 bucks (6750 cal @ 1 cup of rice/day)

Big container of teriyaki sauce: 6 bucks (minimal amount for other spices you'll add in). Figured in the teri chicken; see below)

2 pounds of frozen ground beef: 10 bucks 14240cal

jumbo jar of prego sauce (or two mediums): 8 bucks 8cups*90cal = 720 cal

1 big thing of spagheti noodles: 5 bucks 170calx15=2550

2 big bag-o-salads: 7 bucks 1500 cal

1 large container of dressing: 6 bucks 75x30 2250cal

2 econo bags of rolls: 6 bucks 2550cal

1 large container of spread/butter: 3 bucks 1625

teri chicken = 2100

bananas = 3150

sammiches = 60*30(bread) 1800cal mayo 70*30 2100cal. bologna 60*30 1800

That's about 70 bucks so far, and that will cover a full month of dinners, half teriyaki chicken, the other half spaghetti. Each meal comes complete with a side salad and dinner roll.

Add in a bunch of bananas each week to eat something going out the door, and that's about another 20 bucks or so. Cheap sandwich makings (basic bologna, mayo and bread might run another 10 or 20 bucks a month. If breakfast is a couple pieces of toast say, or you skip lunch (which I typically do since the dinner is quite large), you're probably under a hundred a month. Obviously, how expensive the side stuff you buy can affect this. I went pretty middle of the road. You could get generic sauces (or make them from scratch) and save probably another 10 or 15 bucks a month.

Total cal per month: 39125
Total cal per day: 1307

So, yeah not nearly enough calories, at least for the average adult male.

I think I'd rather starve than eat the same two meals every other day for a month.

The crappier the ground beef you buy, the more fat content it has so it'll provide more calories Smiley: schooled Smiley: thumbsup

Edit: You just need to make sure not to cook the fat out. Pour your melted fat back onto the beef before eating. Yum!

up portion sizes by 50%. 2000 cal/day at ~$100/mo.

It will be a horrible, miserable existence, but isn't that the beauty of it?

At least you'll know you'll have the energy to pull the trigger and kill yourself when you've had enough.

You can probably find a used fishing pole at a yard sale for less than five bucks and eat for a lifetime.

Oh, a fishing pole isn't large enough for more than two or three meals.

You can just move and find a better meal. Much like moving to get a better job, the cost of moving doesn't count.

Fry it in butter and whip it at cars.

One car could get you a lot of butter fried whipping ammo. Seems like eventually you'd have a lot more ammo than you'd know what to do with. Might as well eat some of the butter fried goodness.

You're going to need a lot of butter for that and that just won't fit in your budget.

I guess you can try selling some of the butter-fried cars to junk car/truck dealers, so you can buy more butter.

Two bags of premixed salad will provide for 30 individual side salads? Are we talking a table spoon of mixture per salad or something?

Disregard. I realize now I was replying to the same insanity that I tried to avoid back then. Smiley: oyvey

Two bags of premixed salad will provide for 30 side salads if you eat them all within two days before the lettuce turns to soggy mush.

Either that, or we are talking some really big bags of salad mix. At 1500 calories total, I'm thinking they are really big bags. Since I think the standard ones are like... 15-30 calories per serving and contain 2-4 servings if I remember right.

4 servings, 15 calories each.

I should mention I was a skooch generous with his "budget". And likely a bit too generous with the salad calories.

ALSO: Yeah, that "super bag o' salad"would be useless in less than 5 days.

I should mention that 1kcal per day was a starvation diet for POWs in WWII.

Scrap the bagged salad and just wait til fresh greens are in season to indulge in leafiness.

Get some celery and carrots. You can eat it raw, you can cook it, you can dip it, and it'll stay edible in your crisper for a couple weeks. When it starts turning, you can feed it to the local horses.
