Any cheque I deposit is credited to me, right at that moment.
That's pretty nice. As far as I know, the only bank here that does it is BoA. And I'm expecting them to come out with the smart phone deposit at some point. All the other cool kids are doing it...

Today's kids will never know how (or be able) to float a check.

Ah, check floating. We have moved on to credit cycling.

Pending credit/debit transacitons still have a few days leeway in my account, because they have to verify the reciept is signed and account for tips. My one big luxury in life is mani-pedis, and they'll only ping my account for $25 and keep the balance pending for a few days, at which point they actually deduct $30 (five bucks for the tip included.)

Not quite the same as floating a check, and on a smaller scale, but still an interesting phenomenon. It's being phased out with those credit card processors that have a built in signature pad.

Sometimes I do wish that they had that "take a picture of your check with your smartphone" thing that Chase has. Anyone ever used that? I wonder how well it works. Seems like it'd be ripe for fraud, though I'm sure they've got some sort of measures in place.
I don't know about Chase, but USAAs Deposit@home and Deposit@mobile requires you to either have an insurance policy or a line of credit with them to use the feature. I don't think Chase requires this, but USAA has a higher daily limit (my daily limit is $10,000, Chase Quick Deposit's monthly limit is $5000, with a daily limit of only $2000. )

Paper checks are already rife with fraud, so it's not like it could be much worse.
