I think Katie reduces a lot of things to black and white. At least she's done so repeatedly on quite a few issues.

Katie's not nearly the worst case I've seen of that sort of polarization. She at least has distinguished her emotional response from what she thinks is right in terms of justice. That alone takes maturity, don't you think?

Does this help you understand, even in the slightest bit, why I have little faith in the social worker system? Why on earth was this boy still living with these people to begin with? This is a typical case where a child who is obviously in danger is left with his abusive parents despite an investigation leading to previous child abuse charges and a no contest guilty plea. There was absolutely no question these people held little regard for this boy and his welfare.

No system is perfect. Everyone who works in the system knows that. I know that. I've seen alot of horror shows, many of them inflicted by the social service system. Others by the US government, education system and just about any major institution in the US. I deal with the dilemmas of the social service system all the time. The system is ****** up and it's underfunded and understaffed. There are ****** burnt out social workers. However, I think you can't indict everyone in any social service job for other people's mistakes.
