I'll have to watch it and see just how much they really follow the book. The 3 book series was one of my favorites as is the Twins gooks later. It's only a matter of time before some other classic like The Chronicals of Thomas Covenant will actually be a kick *** movie?
I dont' think I can ever go back and try to get into the Thomas Covenant series. I read the first book when I was nine, and pretty much the first thing that Thomas does when he gets into an alternate world is rape Lena. Being that age, I found the scene powerfully shocking and distressing. I dropped the book, and started shaking all over. There's not much point reading the first book again from an adult perspective now, to replace that experience of it. I can live without it.
Read some Dragonlance as an extremely young teenager, but I found it extraordinarily cliched. I'm not wanting to diss anyone who got heaps of enjoyment out of it, because sometimes a rip-roaring adventure is just what the doctor ordered.
Yes, there's some incredibly great children's and young adult fiction out there. The only difference I find between those and adult books (apart from the length) is that they leave out sex scenes. You don't always have to have sex to make a thoroughly enjoyable book.
Also love all of Pratchett's and some of Gaiman's stuff. ever read Good Omens, which is by both of them together? It's one of the minority of author collaborations that not only doesn't suck, but is totally great in so many different ways.
