if you are going to twink your hunter, i advise taking another pet.
Ravager, Owl, cat and boar come to mind.
croc's are very cool pet, but not the best option for serious PvP.

no no no im not going to keep this croc he just has a move i would like to learn but his loyalty needs oto go up for me to be able to learn this move. I have no intention of keeping a croc i just want to know why his loyalty wont increase past 1

Loyalty shouldn't effect how fast you learn skills.

just turn off all of his other skills (if any) and leave him on agressive in a newbie area or low area, 10 minutes max should learn the skill!

You don't need to gain loyalty for you to learn a skill from the pet. I often train temp pets, to be used for a few battles and then dumped before its loyalty can even go anywhere.

Once you know the pet does have the skill you want, just get into fights with it and make sure it uses the skill when near you as often as you can trigger the skill to go off.

Bite is a PITA skill to learn due to the cooldown. Just make sure it's the ONLY skill turned on, and let it go kill stuff.

and dance with it to entertain it/yourself while it is killing low lvl stuff ;)

Go to Petopia and find the beast with rank 4 bite and tame it. Almost as soon as it attacks something, you should see in yellow letters "you have just learned bite 4" and then you can abandon the pet.

He has a pet tamed with Bite 4 and is trying to learn it. Sometimes it takes longer than "almost as soon as it attacks something". I myself made a thread on this very forum a while ago about my experience learning a rank of Bite. It took about 30 game minutes fighting with that darned Spider before I learned it.

Learning pet skills sucks, period. I have the list of abilities from petopia printed out with the skill I want to learn, beasrt learned from and zone its found in. I just look at the list find what I need go and tame it. Problem is, i've had it where I tame it and before my life even regens, sic it on something and learned the skill I wanted. However i have also had it where i've had the pet up to loyalty lvl 3 before I got the damned skill i wanted, which can take like 2-3 hours. It's a sad part about being a good hunter, but it's what makes us a little tougher than some other classes in PvE; PvP is really not about pet damage at all, as your pet won't be attacking anyone long enough to make a big difference anyway normally, but every little bit helps.

Stick to it, you know what you're doing, it's just that the the time it takes to learn a skill is so variable. But to address the original question.. Pet loyalty is gradual and raises whether your fighting or just standing there, as long as your pet is happy or content, fighting just makes the time pass faster.

Thanks everyone and i finally got the move took 2 constant hours of grinding on some low lvls till he became loyalty lvl 2 and right away i learned the new move. Anyway on a side note I finally tamed my wind serpent and im wondering if it will get exp if i dont. my pets lvl 16 so im wondering if kill other 16s(no exp for me) will that allow him to get a lvl? a few of the hunters in my guild seem split some say it will others say it will only if i gain exp

pets gain experience from mobs your level. Grays dont count for anything. Its a pain since your trying to stay at 29, so the only real thing is find a pet closer to your lvl.

Loyalty has nothing to do with learning moves. After I hit 70, having used a pet boar and ONLY a pet boar since around level 30, I went out and learned all the highest rank moves for every other pet.

Every one, and I do mean EVERY one, I learnt on first use.

I realise this isn't the case for everyone, but it should be enough to prove that you don't need to go and grind a pet prior to learning a move. Highest ranks of Claw, Bite, Dash, Dive, Screech, Lightning Breath, Prowl, Cower, all learnt on first use, directly after taming mob.
