I stumbled upon this when browsing around this morning. Don't remember how much time I wasted in high school and college playing, but it doesn't seem so bad in comparison now.

Linky and another linky.

I remember a couple of games I had that got locked in some kind of long-term stalemate, but nothing to this degree of course. Having the urge to reload the game at some point now. Those disks are sitting around somewhere. Smiley: lol

I have a difficult enough time playing the same game ten days straight. Ten years seems ridiculously obsessive.

I'd never get into this position, because I'm a chronic game-starter in Civ. I'll build the world and play through the first 20-30 turns, then decide that I don't like the world layout, or I don't like my starter city placement, or I want to play as another civ, and I'll just start over. Repeat.

I think I've only finished one game ever, and it was my first run of Civ II. I still haven't beaten Civ V.

A few weeks back I was switching out the hard drive in my old computer and discovered the file in which I kept all my Civ 2 custom stuff. Unit graphics I made, the .txt files with custom unit information, new tech and even the Civilopedia entries I made for them despite me being the only person who'd ever see them.

I haven't played the game in years but I couldn't bear to not transfer that folder. Good memories.

Think I know the type. My wife loved the first half of the game or so, rarely ever played through to the end either. Something about the exploring and discovery parts being a lot more fun than the endless diplomacy and wars.

Edit:

Also miss all the custom maps and stuff. One of those thing that was just too much fun, seeing how the AI would react if you say made it start in the middle of a bulls eye or something... Smiley: lol

I think that's a lot of it. Even in Civ V, the AI is so limited and shoddy that I can't enjoy the diplomacy at all. Wars are kinda fun, but not really the game's strength.

Also, waiting through turns in the late game is just plain brutal.

I was reading that the latest patch made turns take even longer. I haven't played yet but was considering starting. Maybe I'll hold off a bit.

I'd be sorta curious to see what you made, I recall making some (crappy) stuff through the editor.
