I mean, its a fun game. it's just not very substantial, and its got a few hangups.

If it drops to say, $5, that'd be a perfect price point.

Currently $3.74 at Greenmangaming.com. No idea for how long.

That deal is over, it's back up to $14. On the bright side Arkham City is $20 now.

I just picked up shogun 2 with the ltd ed and all the DLC, along with spacechem.

At <$20, it's a no-brainer purchase.

SpaceChem demanded too much thinkin' from me! Happily, I already had it from some previous HIB and didn't buy it individually.

I want to enjoy Homefront but the game seems intent on thwarting my enjoyment. Really, it's mainly the irritating NPCs.

I bought Shogun 2 off Amazon when it was on sale for $7.50 with a $5 coupon. I don't have the DLC but for $2.50, I'll find a way to survive Smiley: grin

Ironically, I've spent more time in the past four days playing TF2 than anything else.

On SpaceChem-

I love that game and got about halfway through it, but I reached the point where each puzzle would take me hours to solve (partly because I wanted an eloquent solution). I'm also a nerd and enjoy difficult puzzles. Anyway, what I always found to be interesting about SpaceChem is that is literally computer programming in disguise.

An interview with Cort Stratton of Naughty Dog goes into a little more detail.

My buys were Dungeon Defenders, Batman: AC, and Civ 5. I've never played a Civ game before, but I'm really enjoying it. It also helps that the fianceé is the one who convinced me to buy it; she used to love Civ III and when we played a game with a friend this weekend she was hooked. It's a godsend since I've been searching forever for a game that she actually wants to play with me. The other two games are also lots and lots of fun.

You know, I mentioned it to her but I don't think she's a big fan of tower defenses.

She can be a "cute" huntress and just own faces, disregarding all strategery.

She doesn't care about that sort of stuff - it's the gameplay itself that would turn her off.

I was very close to picking that one up when it was on sale but after FFXIV, the thought of giving SE more of my money makes me throw up in my mouth a little. Unless the entire intertoobs unites in one voice to decree a specific new SE titled "omfg the best game in years", my inclination is to pass.

I'm enjoying it as well. I've gone through three matches so far, which is actually quite a lot when you consider I play on Huge maps with the Marathon game setting. Each match takes about 15 hours total to complete. There are so many different ways you can focus your attention to win that it takes a long time to get old. My only complaint is that on the really large maps, by mid-game it starts to take a long time to process the NPC player actions between turns.

I won my last match with a diplomatic victory but I saved right before I completed construction on the UN so I can reload and win with a cultural victory. Meanwhile, Catherine of Russia is flaming me for being a bully because I have 15 Giant Death Robots lined up on her borders. She never should have denounced me for being friends with Polynesia in 270 AD.

I'm hoping Civ 5 turns out to be a winner for me. I loved Civ 2 and played the crap out of it and eagerly bought Civ 3 at launch. What a disappointing buggy piece of crap (although I guess it got a bit of patching later). Put me off the entire franchise for years and I'm just now taking another chance on it.

I've noticed a couple of minor bugs but nothing particularly game-breaking. Sometimes I'll have a unit selected but it won't let me do anything with it. Other times the game knows where a unit is and shows its icon in the proper place but leaves its model somewhere else. Both of these issues happen very rarely, and can usually be fixed by either entering a city or diplomatic screen (anything that forces the game to fully redraw the visible map).

You'll notice a LOT of differences between Civ2/3 and Civ 5.

I figured it out. It's a combination of the on-rails gameplay that discourages any exploration of the otherwise compelling game world and the NPCs. I spend what feels like half the game waiting for them to get into positions so I can advance (I'm apparently unable to open a door or push over a file cabinet on my own), they chant objectives like Rainman during the missions ("Throw a grenade behind it! We need to get behind it with a grenade! Throw a grenade!...") and manage to push me or block my path often enough to be irritated by it. At least once, they boxed me in and refused to move, forcing me to restart a mission.

For the $7 I paid for it, I'm not upset but I can see where the game could be improved. I also realize I'm discussing the single player missions on what is largely intended to be a multiplayer shooter.

That sounds totally fun. I have never tired a Civ game and now I am tempted.

I've enjoyed every Civ title since the first one (some more than others) but if you haven't played any of them before, Civ V is definitely a good place to start. It's a bit of a steep learning curve, but it's also one of those games where you say to yourself that you're going to play for an hour before bed and the next thing you know it's 1am.
