Got this in my in box today and while it's possibly legit, I sincerely doubt it since I don't have a battle.net account and have never even considered to play WoW. Figured I'd share with those on the WoW side of Alla just on the incase of hoodlumory.

edited cause someone asked nicely. :)

I got one too.

First ever. I would blame it on someone, but pointing fingers at shadows (influx of people here, IMO.) does nothing.

I actually opened Firefox and type in www.battle.net and navigated my way to each of my accounts... and none show a pending Faction Change.

My email was the same exact one as shown above.

On hold to Blizzard right now just to double check.Gave up while on hold because I found the answer on the o-boards Customer Service forum. (link below)

edit: speelign, and stuffeses.

It looks legitimate, but I'm positive it isn't.

  • No character name is mentioned.
  • I'm pretty sure that most paid services are still handled on the worldofwarcraft.com site.
  • Unless it's a promotional thing, Blizzard always uses the domain blizzard.com (Although legitimate email addresses that Blizzard uses can be spoofed.).

I recommend forwarding the full headers to hacks@blizzard.com and reporting it as spam to your email provider.

BTW...

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=26262989118&sid=1

It is a known phishing email. Blue response in that thread.

Innacoma, can you make the links in your post where others won't see them... just delete them and put <url was here> or something... Thanks.

Also, Heh... I just noticed that it came from the domain "blizzard.sales.com" which IS NOT Blizzard.

My latest phishing attempt was a phisher sending me a whisper with the usual bogus name followed by enough spaces to create a new line with a phony "[name]GM - you've done something bad - log onto [hacker site] so we can steal your account info."

world of warcraft: Cataclysm Beta Test Invitation!

Get those opt-ins ready for the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm closed beta! The sundering of Azeroth is nigh, and you don’t want to be left out in the cold of Northrend when you could be enjoying the sun-drenched beaches on the goblin isle of Kezan. To ensure you’re opted-in and eligible as a potential candidate, you’ll need a World of Warcraft license attached to your Battle.net account, have your current system specifications uploaded to the Battle.net Beta Profile Settings page, and have expressed interest through the franchise-specific check boxes.

Get the Installer - Log in to your Battle.net account: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account

** IMPORTANT ** To avoid graphical bugs and other technical issues, please ensure your video card drivers are up-to-date.

Enjoy the game!

I deleted like 4 of these today. And I had like been receiving one per day...

the fact that these are sent from Hotmail (in one form or another) really makes me want to mark these things as spam but that causes legit Blizzard mail to go into the spam box...

EDIT:
btw, in case anyone did not notice. Official Blizzard email has digital signatures and are sent from email.Blizzard.com so look out for those to make sure.
