Technical help nightmare with SEFollow

I tried calling. I couldn't get through.

I tried email. I got a response 48 hours ago saying they would respond within 24 hours. I've received 4 or 5 similar promises by email to be in contact . . . no contact.

I tried chat. First time I started about 2 hours before they closed, got to #1 around 30 minutes before closing - and then got bounced saying no one was available and giving me an email option (again no contact for the email).

Just now - started waiting on chat around 2pm PST, got to #2 in que and then got bounced out, saying no one available at 4:30pm PST. They are allegedly open until 6pm PST! I'm now back in que along with (starting again around #71 and now at #37 . . . I mean, WTF! Seriously.

In the hopes someone can help -

I have game on laptop and tower. Laptop has game thru Steam. I purchased Ultimate Collection thru Steam because Seekers won't work with Steam. I downloaded and installed the Ultimate Collection and . . . I discovered a series of problems: (1) When I tried the new icon, I got what looks like an old version of Play Online, when I click "next" I get a POL-1160 connection error. (2) I "diditwrong" because I should have uninstalled the old FFXI game before I installed the Ultimate (we're warned about disk space usage issues). But I discover that I can still click on old copy of FFXI, but all my registration information is gone, and needs to be added. However, I'm not getting a POL-1160 error with this icon. (3) I uninstall everything, and re-install the Ultimate Collection. Again get POL-1160 connection error.

I go to the SE website and download Play OnLine for Windows 7 and install it. At first I get the same POL-1160 error. Now, I'm getting a message saying "PlayOnline Viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder. Please check your access privileges." I have no idea what that's about.

While I had two workable icons, since I was getting only POL-1160 errors, I tried logging in with old icon. As mentioned above, I found that something had been over-written and my log-in credentials were all blank. I could not find the correct combination of names, accounts, and passwords and continually got "wrong name or password" messages. I was afraid of this since I've always had this problem when I had to re-install the game. I'm able to log into the game through my desktop, but it is on its last leg and has video card issues. The game freezes after 20 minutes.

tldr - I'm screwed by trying to get Seekers, now I can't complete the installation - and SE is unreachable.

Well..I hate to tell you this but I sent them 3 emails around the 9th and no replies to any of them. It's the 20th.

Something seriously wrong with SE right now..

Wish I could help more. Some have said to call SE right when they open up so that you're the first one in line.

I also was in Chat for nearly 3 hours and got booted right when I was at #1.

I would love to reactivate my account and actually play but it's impossible!

I sent in a ticket not very long ago and the only reply I got was an email that essentially said they're too busy to deal with it and they're closing it out, but I'm free to resubmit it. As someone who does in-house support I could never get away with closing out a work order without dealing with the problem. I know that's small potatoes compared to what SE has to deal with, but they should have a lot more money, people, and other resources than the place I work for. They could do better if they really wanted. They just don't care to.

Maybe we should just retool these forums as an open therapy group, as the poor technical service seems to be the only thing noteworthy about the game ATM.

Not that I'd encourage you to even play the game at this point, but it sounds like you are having the old UAC install problem.

UAC is intended to be a protection for your computer, but it's one of those things that tends to do more harm than good, so I recommend learning to protect your computer in other ways, and disabling UAC as soon as you get a new computer just to save yourself some grief down the road.

I had a similar problem on Vista years ago, certain files and registry entries cannot be written if UAC is on, or if you are on a non-admin-level account.

I hate to break it to you, but you'll have to install yet again.

1) Make sure you are on an admin account.

2) Disable UAC, restart machine, logging into admin account again.

3) Delete the entire POL folder

4) Do a google search on how to clear the square-enix entries from the registry (might not be necessary, but will help keep things 'clean' so you don't get odd problems post install)

5) Download the game via steam, you shouldn't need a separate win 7 POL if you download it this way.

6) Run POL and perform all the necessary updates.

7) Play.

Yeah, UAC causes more problems than it freaking solves. I found that out when I got my new pc.

My suggestion; Use Ccleaner to total uninstall FFXI and all expansions; then do a registry clean to make sure you got rid of every last speck. (Also check for leftover directories on your hdd after manually) Then use the directions in the post above..or from here to make sure you got UAC off; I am assuming you're running as admin before you mess with any system settings, if you're not get on the admin account before you start this. Then reinstall from Steam and you should be golden. (I have had more of a mess, but then I start with the disks; so I have to install the windows 7 version of POL first lol!)

Also if you're still having problems, run it in XP compatibility mode. I swear it ran better on XP.
