...you mean "who" is Rari.

Rari is the name of my character. He and Naguria (my G/F's character) can be seen running around Vana'Diel from time to time.

not totally sure of this, but isn't spipi a female? i don't know, something about the name spipi makes it seem female... granted, this is just a pronoun issue, but it seems most of the cralwer NM's seem to have female names: awd goggie, matron crawler, queen crawler, spiny spipi... not so sure, but in this sense i'd say that the crawler NM's are female, much like ant colonies are predominantly female. granted, these are "caterpillars," per se, but i have yet to see a butterfly (or other mature form) of these creatures. not too mention that exoskeletons fail to work on species when they are that large, thus rendering anticans and crawlers useless. take that back, there is a giant crab in the pacific, it's totally marine though so different rules apply. but not like that matters, vanadiel is a fantasy world, where the "hominids" were created from a goddess' tears... speaking of that, the galkans' would technically all be female, as females are required to pass on genetic information (if asexual). males are just there to spice it up. ~_^ ok, i think bio science is getting out of hand in this post alone...

needless to say, congrats on taking down spipi and getting the coveted mist silk cape. i have felled her twice now, and only gotten silk thread. speaking of, she also (according to the info of this site) drops mistral sabots, and yet i have never heard of them dropping off her. any one know for certain about such a drop?

Well, I play a lot very late at night (3:00am cause I work 2nd). There is no one ever camping him/her. I came back from Mhaura to Windy, went to see if he/she was there. Yep. So I took him/her down. Only got a silk thread though. Much fun.

[********************* my char could pwn the **** outta that crawler[/quote]

I had to pause for a moment to figure how to reply to this...

Where is the challenge ... no... wait... what is the point of...

...hm

I guess this is just one of those things you "get" or you "don't" ...and judging by what you wrote, you don't get it. Smiley: disappointed

Oh hell, I’ll try any way...
The point in writing about that fight was to share what I experienced. I happened upon Spipi. My heart rate increased. I was nervous. I tried to remain calm so I could fight well and get that cape. I had wanted that cape for a long time before running into Spipi as a lvl12 BLM. I wasn’t out to make a profit. I wasn’t hunting Spipi to “pwn him for uber equip” I wanted to fight him to earn that cape. Just as I have earned all of my quested/ fought for jobs, equipment, and spells. Click on “Rari” below. I can hunt a few NM’s. What would I have to write if I killed Spipi as my 32WHM? “Woohoo, I killed him w/ my uber hammer in 2 hits! I da shiznit!” ? Why would anyone else care about that?

Do you play sports? Not with your friends. Real competitive sports with a coaching staff and referees? I fought Spipi the way I did for the sport of it. Where’s the sport in fighting a helpless creature?

That was a really good fight even when I was a 23RDM/8WAR I ran in to Spiny Spipi and it took me forever to kill him even though he didnt get very many hits in. One pointer though when fighting and using spells dont use Dia after Bio or Poison they cancel each other out, and dont cast Bio or Poison after Dia it does the same thing. You are a very lucky Taru to walk away form that still walking and no poison effect on you. I have been killed all too many times by Dia or Poison lasting too long on me.

har har. One of my friends on Titan server gave me a /tell "I think I'll go check if Spiny is here!"

/tell Raistlin "Good luck finding him."

two minutes later.

"I found him!"

:O

He got the cape too.

Hell, I'm still wearing the cape at 38... the only other cape that looks good is White Cape, and I am quite poor right now. I'm surprised that the Mist Silk Cape is so underpriced (compared to another low-level item, Leaping Boots).

Congrats for the cap.
So Rari, your fans are dying to know, which NM will be the next challeger? Rumor says that Spook and Behemoth King are starting to take "How to kill Taru's " Courses. Also, they say that the Sandoria princess has your snapshot in her room. Thinking about becoming Sir Rari or Lord Rari (or maybe Your Majesty Rari) anytime soon? =P

Good Job on the NM kill! About these Mistral Sabots, i have killed spipi over 20 times, getting the cape drop about 10 times, silk, yada yada, and unless they added this item to his drops recently, he does not or hasnt droped these for me, EVER.
I think its BS or a misprint, but anyhow, GJ!~

I've fought Spiny Spipi twice.

The first time, I was doing it conciously. I used a poorly equipped THF15/RNG01 (OH, THE HUMANITY!!!) and was killing bees, gobs, and crawlers all in that general area. As I was drooling over how awesome Widescan was, Spiny Spipi spawned five minutes after I started farming, but he was claimed by some high-level RDM. He ran away immediately after, so I'm guessing he got the drop.

I farmed for another hour, staying within his spawn circle religiously, making tons of cash through threads and chips. Then, right as I was about to quit for the day, the dude spawned right in front of me, and I engaged.

Like I mentioned, I was poorly equipped, and had a horribly underleveled sub. Our HP bars were neck-in-neck for the entire fight, but then he used Sticky Thread, and that shifted the fight in his favor considerably. I used Perfect Dodge, which bought me a few more precious seconds of time. I did eventually kill him, but I had very little life left, and had I not used all 300% TP I had been saving, I would have died a miserable death.

Some other character behind me said "I hate you" before sitting down in a huff, but I didn't get the drop, so he was happy.

The second time was completely by accident. Anytime I'm riding through East Sarutabaruta, I swing by the stone monument to see if the little yellow bugger is around, and one day, he was. I was using my SMN20/WHM10 with Avatar Battle gear. Ifrit made short work of him, but no drop.

I have since shifted my farming spot from East Sarutabaruta to Palborough Mines, but I may shift it back soon. If I do, Spiny better be on his guard.

But yes, I want the Mist Silk Cape very badly. I want to hold it and squeeze it and love it and wear it and...

/em trails off into a string of insane murmuring.

I met Spipi once, as NIN8/WAR4 >.<

Would've maybe been able to kick its *** if it hadn't been for a friggin' gob aggroing when both me and Spipi were at half HP.

Had to Mijin Gakure to not lose exp, and when I got back a MNK12/WAR6 had grabbed it and gotten the cape >.<

Heheh.... nice thread. Gratz.

I've had 2 run-ins with that loathsome worm. The first, while levelling my PLD (i think I was about 9-10 PLD/RDM), I attacked before resting up because there were farmers in the area. It was a close fight. Without much MP, I ultimately died (more from Poison than anything). But Spipi was hanging on by maybe 2 hits worth of life.

The second time I was farming silks & beehive chips with my WHM/THF (30/15 at the time). Again there were people camping it. I got the spawn while one of them was trying to talk smack about how cool their widescan was or something. Got a few /slaps from that person when they arrived to see me beating on their prize. But I didnt get the drop.
