Pat (WoW)

A Pat is a patrolling mob or mobs. Pat refers to the whole patrol, so if you have a linked patrol of three mobs, it's still just refered to as a pat. Two or more linked sets of mobs, where the sets are not linked to each other, would be referred to as the plural, Pats.

Unlike other mobs that may wander around but stay in a small area, pats walk back and forth along a set path that may circle or pass through an area. A pat will cover more ground than the typical mob area but will stay on their set path. Pats can be present all the time in an area or they can spawn when a certain event happens.

An example of the latter is the Pats in The Deadmines who will spawn behind the party when the door between certain areas of the instance are opened and then walk toward the party (usually appearing at the worst possible time, which is why many groups will wait for or backtrack to kill the pats before proceeding on).

While a pat is generally not linked to the more stationary mobs, pulling those mobs with a pat too close (or vice versa) will result in adds.
