My name is John Stanko. I am currently an assistant professor of visual communications at University of Nebraska at Kearney. After working as a designer/ art director for over nine years, I went back to school and earned my MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. I have been a freelance illustrator since 1991 and had work published in in over 30 issues of Dragon and Dungeon Magazines. Most recently I have been working with Sony Online's Legend of Norrath Online Card game. Some of my other illustration clients include ACI worldwide, Exxon Oil, FDR inc, Inacom Corp., and Lancer Labels.

About my work

Currently I work in walnut oils on paper mounted to MDF. I use walnut oil because it is a natural meduim, so I do not have to use paint thinners to clean my brushes. Also I have found it gives excellent color On average a painting takes me from 3 days to 2 months depending on the level of detail, size, and of course how much time I have to complete them. I am also working digitally with painter and photoshop.
