Started gaming with a Coleco console (came within 20 points of maxxing "Zaxxon", then lost it!), but I really fell hard for "Mech Warrior", on Nintendo console. MW-2 (3D) inspired me to buy a "high performance" Wintel 486 computer with one of the first Voodoo 3D grapics accelerator cards (2mb!). Next was Heavy Gear, by this time using rudder pedals and of course a multi-button joystick, both plugged into a dedicated "game card". Too bad they never quite perfected 3D goggles, or I'd have had them, too. Nothing against my many trusty Trinitrons, though. That was the golden age, man. The good old days. The dawn of my awakening. There were 3 networked pc's in my house two of them piped out to big screen TVs for the masses to witness the action. My network was wired with coax to the neighbor's network across the street, for what was then cutting edge multi-player action. Cheats in Internet play were common, so hosts commonly ran 3rd party anti-cheat detection applets right before clicking "launch", so they could boot the cheaters. Once the game started nobody could enter, and if you died you were bounced from the round. Oh yeah then there was Doom, Quake, Warcraft, Diablo (I and II), Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and now WOW. Heavy Gear was the best, though.
