So I've got a few questions about this ore/turning it into bars. First, I am a 375 miner, level 65.

Once we learn to smelt this ore, can we smelt it anywhere or only at this "special forge" in BRD?

How difficult is BRD? I've never ran it. Now that we are no longer capped at level 60, is it still that difficult? Alla lists it as a 50-55 5 man instance, so could a 65 warrior(protection), 61 mage(fire), and 61(priest(mostly holy), manage this run? Or manage it in a few levels, not necessarily quickly? And knowing that the BRD is in the searing gorge, would a fire mage have trouble damaging the mobs there?

Do we have to pay the tribute of 20 gold bars, 10 true silver and 2 star rubies every time we smelt the ore or just to learn to do it the first time?

My server is newish, and it seems that no one here is buying/smelting dark iron ore yet, so it is impossible to sell as ore and I'm sure there are some smiths who'd like to use it in my guild or elsewhere.

I looked through the page info for dark iron ore and it gave some information but it wasn't all that clarified for me.

Thanks for any help.

You can only smelt it at the Black Forge, which is near the end of the BRD instance. Bear in mind that it takes 8 ore to smelt 1 bar, so bring all the ore you have. Also, you can only craft items that require Dark Iron at the Black Anvil, also in the BRD instance.

You only have to pay the tribute once for him to teach you, after that the skill is in your smelting list same as any other metal.

BRD would not be hard at all for a group that's 60+, it's just a long instance. What you will need, however, is someone with the Shadowforged Key, to access the second half of the instance. You can acquire one through a quest in BRD, you can look it up on Alla if you don't know anyone that has one.

Some of the mobs are fire elementals, but 95% of them are simply dwarves and dogs, which the mage should have no trouble with. I'd offer to take you there and show you around since I've been through that instance more times that I'd care to, but I'm not on your server unfortunately.

Does the Dark Iron bars rule apply to jewel crafting, since jewel crafting doesnt require an anvil or a forge?

Well, you don't need to use the Black Anvil obviously, because jewelcrafting doesn't require anvils. You would still need to use the Black Forge to smelt the ore into bars to make your item though.

JC doesn't use DI at all. None of the designs require dark iron, and you can't prospect DI ore

Sure could, but it would be a PITA. For the record, it is even eazer than that(if you only want to smelt) I have made my way to the forge as a lock/mage combo at level 60 (took a long time) but it is doable. BFD is one of those places it is just nice to have a lock for(with banishing and seducing a lock can hold 2 mobs at once as well as dps'ing the tank target)

Heck i thought you could even do the place with no key if you do the areana event... but my BRD memory is starting to fade and it may have been a pipe dream.

Actually, I found one item that requires Dark Iron listed here on Alla:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=21789

The recipe drops in BRD itself too, off one of the bosses. I couldn't find any others though.

Is it possible to visit the forge easily by getting attuned to MC, getting ported there by the elf outside BRD and then stepping through the portal out of MC? One would then be very close to the forge provided stepping out of the MC portal didn't take one back to the elf.

When you exit MC via the portal, you will be standing next to the elf, not in BRD.
