Northend mining/herb areasFollow

I've been mining and picking plants for a long time (at least it feels that way). Once I got to the Northend, Sholazar Basin initially became my favorite spot due to the abundance of nodes and plants. I now prefer Icecrown for mining as I seem to find more titanium nodes there for some reason. Recently I started trying Wintergrasp because others have said it is the spot to go for titanium and frost lotus. Unfortunately I haven't found this - in fact nodes and plants seem to be pretty sparse even though I go when it's deserted. Have I just been unluckly or do others find the same? Similarly, I've not had a lot of success in The Storm Peaks but maybe I'm not looking the right areas.

Storm Peaks is about on par with Icecrown for herb and ore nodes, it's just a little more wonky in the layout so if you don't really know where to go, it can seem quite Barren. I've never been found of WG as a place to gather. Most of the herb nodes are "Frozen Herb" which makes it difficult to target specific types of herbs. The zone itself is rather small compared to others as well, which makes competition for resources a little more steep. Personally, I also prefer Sholazar and Icecrown and will often work back and forth between them when I'm on a gathering spree.

Stormpeaks was my gold-maker for herbalism, using gatherer + the wowhead db made it quite easy to make a couple quick laps around the heavy spawn areas, getting a stack or two per lap wasn't unusual. That and lichbloom was worth a lot more on my server than icethorn (which I ran into more in stormpeaks, but YMMV)

Sindragosa's Fall is the best spot I've found for herbs. There are a ton of nodes packed in a small spot. I don't know why it's not always full of people. It's right next to the Argent Tournament Grounds.

WG is full of nodes for both mining and herbs, but it's always full of people farming them so it might seem like less nodes are up.

Mining for Titanium is a crap shoot. They are spread all over the place, and everyone is looking for them.

On my server, Lichbloom and Icethorn don't sell for much more than the various herbs I can gather in SB. So while I still pick the two while in Storm Peaks or Icecrown, it is much more productive for me to gather in SB. And of course, the more plants I pick in a given amount of time means I generally get more Frost Lotus.

I've never had much problem getting Titanium. Since I play in the early morning (5:00 am), the population is light and I generally find a few nodes.

I prefer Sholazar Basin for mining. It's really easy to loop around the perimeter of the zone, with quick side trips around the various pillars. Not sure why, but I seem to find titanium spawns most frequently at the nodes around the pillars. Probably just happenstance.

Not a big fan of Icecrown or Storm Peaks for mining. Nodes seem farther spread out. In Icecrown, there are some nodes that are nearly inaccessible because of high level mobs. I'd just as soon not fight anything while I'm farming.

Herbing, I prefer Storm Peaks. Herb density seems high and it's easy to avoid aggro. I tend not to focus on Icecrown for the same reasons I don't prefer to mine there. Otherwise, I'll hit Sholazar, unless I need Talandra's Rose, of course.

I usually do a flyover of Wintergrasp on my way to/from Dalaran to points west, but I don't generally try to actively farm unless it's close to battle time and I want in on the battle anyway. Like Aurelius said, the frozen herbs aren't predictable and there's generally a lot of competition. I just find it easier to gather the same things elsewhere.

One tip for gatherers in Sholazar...unless you've already started them (in which case, it's too late) skip the Frenzyheart/Oracle quests. If you stay neutral with both Frenzyheart and Oracles, you won't aggro either group when you're gathering in their respective areas. If you've got a farmer toon that you don't care about getting Frenzyheart/Oracle rep, or don't care about getting the Oracle egg, then this is a good way to go for gathering.

Sholazar is by far the best place in gold/hour for me when mining/herbing. I really can't seem to find any titanium when I go to icecrown, even when I go later at night. I've spent 1.5 hours there without a single titanium node while picking up oodles of saronite. I just don't get it.

Wintergrasp also seems very sparse in terms of herbs/ores. They just aren't close together.

Zul'drak has a lot of herb nodes close to Gundrak. It sucks because after the first time around your gather rate drops faster than Kristie Alley's weight when purging, but it seems to be the quickest 10 minutes of herbing I've found every time I go.

Sholazar is just great when there are less farmers around. Gatherer is chock full of herbs/ore nodes throughout the map, although there are some areas I kind of shy away from. I feel like a cricket on crack jumping from node to node sometimes, and tiger lily, adder's tongue, and goldclover sell for close to as much as lichbloom and icethorn do.

I'm curious where you go in Storm Peaks for herbs. I find it rather sparse for both herbs and mining nodes, and I play when the population is light. Having said that, I've had some luck finding herbs in the Dun Niffelem area, and along the slopes between SP and Zul'Drak. For mining, the caves seem to be the better spots.

I used to favor SB for mining, and it is the best place for nodes/hour. But lately I've been doing most of my mining in Icecrown, probably because my titanium hit rate is high. Most of the farmers in Icecrown seem to focus on Sindragosa's Fall and quarry areas, but I've found a decent amount of nodes (any type) in the southern part, from Scourgehold to Fleshwerks.

That's pretty much where I focus in Storm Peaks for herbing, with some forays across the middle portion of the map, too. But, mainly I stay along the south and around Dun Niffelm.

I don't usually mine caves. To me, it's not worth the trouble of fighting my way in for one or two nodes.

As long as Sholazar isn't too crowded, I usually concentrate my mining efforts there. If it's crowded, I usually go do something else :-).

Wintergrasp or Scholozar Basin. If the daily fishing quest is the blood frenzy questline, farm the herb nodes around the lake their, then head to Scholozar. As soon as Alliance win Wintergrasp, head into Wintergrasp. In 2 hours you should have 6 or seven stacks of Tiger Lily, endless Adder's Tongue and at least 7-10 Eternal Life and 10 Frost Lotus. Also, BTW Frost Lotus nodes will(can) drop more than one Frost Lotus. The plants in South East WG drop 2-3 eternal life. My personal best for Frost Lotus was three drops from three sequential Adder's Tongue nodes in Scholozar Basin <5 minutes. Hope this helps.

***** titanium - cobalt ore is going for 40-60g a stack, there's no competition and its a hell of a lot more common - what's the best zone to farm it in?

I am not too sure that will work. Last weekend, in trade titanium, so I whisper and got an answer that knocked me off my chair. 440 a stack and his was cheaper than AH by quite I bit. Same for bars mostly because there was only like 3-4 auctions for each. Can you say SELLER's market??
