changes to Skinning proffesionFollow

#1 Aug 25 2009 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone noticed the small changes in the skinning proffession? No probably not! I for one did notice the very subtle changes ok so what is the change to skinning proffesion you ask? I am in the barrens,I find a area out of anyones way where my presance wont interfere with any quests ,I kill a bunch of mobs and skin them ,while waiting for them to respawn I kill small non aggresive animals(rabbits, groundhogs, antelopes, ect)and skin them this is good for an extra 5-6 peices of leather the mobs respawn and the pattern restarts mobs ,non agressive critters...at least that was until 2-3 weeks ago when the non aggressive critters became unskinnable ! you can still kill them but not skin them. And this change was never mentioned in any patchnotes ...
Now to make up for the loss of 25-30 peices of leather I would normally get in an hour I need to expand my hunting and skinning over a greater area which now equals more time wasted collecting and since the prices dont change im making less $$ an hour then I normally would

Interesting. However, spend that hour questing and just skin as you go. Then you will level up and skin higher level creatures, which equals more profit. Level cooking and mining or herbalism at the same time, and by the time you get to things like mega mammoth meals, you will make even more.

Critters will just hold you back. This can help.

i did notice this, and didnt really care.

At most you get a ruined leather scrap or maybe 1 wool cloth from a sheep....really not worth much in the big picture.

if your that concerned with your money made verses time spent doing it....try leveling up to kill and skin better higher level creatures, try getting to max level and doing daileies....how about pretty much any other activity in the entire game will net you more money/loot/skins rather then skinning bunnies in the barrens.

that is unless you like barrens chat that much

Drat. I guess this means you can no longer skin wool from sheep.

Granted his spelling and grammar were atrocious, and his post meandering, but I personally didn't know this change and don't think he should have been rated down for it. Thanks, OP, for the PSA!

I also noticed this change. Although I rarely try to skin a critter, I found I needed a scrap to make a light leather so I tried to skin an unfortunate hare, who wandered into an aoe field, and realized I couldn't.

A stretch of a thought, maybe they made the change to keep people from killing all the critters so more would be available for the /love achievements? Ok, looonnng stretch, but someone made a conscious effort to change that code - so it must have meant something to the developers to make that change.

However, as was pointed out earlier, not being able to skin critters that provide scraps is hardly worth the worry as if you skill up quickly (and gathering skills do skill up quite fast) you won't miss those scraps - not until Borean Leather Scraps will you really care about them again.

I am a leatherworker and my skinning and leatherworking skills are both maxed for my level . It is not that big of deal but the few peices of scraps do add up to a few peices of leather and being as most of my gold is made from low level armor from leatherworking those few peices of scraps do help. also I sell the scraps on ah for very little money compared to other sellers. those few pieces of scraps are bought and used to help others level their leatherworking skill. How many times have any leatherworkers been 1 - 2 points from a skill up and 2 - 3 pieces short on crafting an item that would give them the point/s needed? ok take 15 - 20 minutes and kill some mobs or 1 minute in ah! I personaly would go the ah route and spend 5 copper to buy 10 peices of leather or scraps and get done quicker.
I was not looking to start a debate nor do I care what the reasons are for removing the non aggressive mobs from skinnable list.
I am rather confused as to why if the non agressive animals can be killed but not skinned . i mean wouldnt it make more sense to not only make them un skinnable but also un killable too. there is also an acheivment to kill some of the critters.
